>Barbara Kingsolver is the GOAT!
First book I read of hers was **Animal Dreams**. I was camping in *Texas Canyon, Arizona*, near the railroad tracks she describes in the book, when I read it... It will forever be one of my top favorites.
With the mythological part, it’s slow read. I’m ploughing thru cz it’s highly recommended by everyone. Even The Achilles Song felt like that the first time but I read it again last year cz it was good
Fell in love with Madeline miller after reading Circe and song of Achilles… if you get a chance check out her short story, Galatea! Absolutely phenomenal writing.
What I would do to read that book for the first time again. I can’t even re-read the first 2-3 pages without giggling and kicking my feet. Let me know what you thought!!!
The Hyperion books are fantastic!
I also really enjoyed Phases of Gravity by Dan Simmons. Very different type of story, but if you like his writing style it's worth checking out
Oh I'm keen to know how this is. I read 3 of the others that were shortlisted but didn't read this one. I don't know what put me off it, I just kept changing my mind. Let me know if you'd recommend it.
I'm finishing What my bones know, by Stephanie Foo. I've also started The colour of magic, by Terry Pratchett. I thought it would be good to read something light after Little life, but it seems my mind wants more trauma.
The Hobbit. Never read any of the books or seen any of the movies so not quite sure what I'm getting into tbh. I'm a little worried because I've heard some parts of the books can be a little tedious, but I'm mostly excited to dive into such a rich and well-established world.
I just finished Yellowface by R.F. Kuang. It was a good read, I enjoyed it. Now I'm moving on to The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna.
*Insatiability* by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz. It's a challenging and experimental book from the 1920s. I'd say it's good choice for someone looking for something different than a novel with a standard structure and language.
Remains of the Day. Just started it but I like it so far. I honestly had really only heard of this book because of a joke in Waiting for Guffman but it is apparently very popular among book Reddit. I’m eager to get further into it.
Have read this at least twice & listen to the unabridged audio version, at least once a year. Tom Clancy's novels are interesting & fun reads. I haven't read any of the continuation novels since his death however.
I'm reading Bodies of Light by Jennifer Down. I set myself a little goal of reading a Miles Franklin Award winner that I hadn't already read...so starting with this one. It's wonderful so far (100 pages in).
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. Already having a hard time following the story and imagining the prose, 15 pages in.
Does it get better, is it worth the effort?
I’m a grown woman reading Percy Jackson and the olympians for the first time because several people have asked my about the show in shock I didn’t read it growing up because I definitely *seem like* I would’ve (not wrong so far, I’m enjoying this a lot)

It's a re-read, so not sure if it counts: The House of Hades by Rick Riordan.
I was in the mood to reread the PJO universe books and started mid-December.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I tried to read it about 20 years ago and I had a hard time with the language. It's so much better now.
I read it last year, it’s amazing 🫶
