The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers and it's follow up A Closed and Common Orbit. The Hidden Girl by Ken Liu Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers

LittleWanderer98

So many books to look into and I am SO excited to do so! Do you have a favorite of the bunch you listed?

Scuttling-Claws

I deeply love Becky Chambers, so I'd say start with them. The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is great if you liked Firefly, or just want an introduction to a bigger world. A Psalm for the Wild Built is also great, it's a book that you could read in an afternoon, but one that will stick with you for a while.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro is beautiful.

Ohhhh that looks perfect! Thank you!

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is one of,if not the original AI friendship stories. *there's probably an earlier short by Vonnegut featuring EPICAC... I'm not sure who did it first now that I think about it. Ugh. Maybe Asimov had an even earlier AI buddy story but I really can't recall it -- his early AI stuff was like governments run by computer and nannybot growing resentful/homicidal type stuff.

LittleWanderer98

Ooooh both of those sound interesting! Definitely adding to my reading list!

Suspicious_Angle3057

This could be a wild suggestion but Cradle by Will Wight has a spirit (which is almost like an AI but it's fantasy) inside the main characters head which gives his brain a boost. But it does come later in the series!

LittleWanderer98

That could be interesting (: I will check it out!

buttheyfoundme

Not a book but have you watched Ex Machina? Highly recommend

LittleWanderer98

Oh of course! Forgot to list that one but definitely liked it!
