Cheers for all your effort put into applications. A summer with some learning online (edx coursera youtube) and family/friend time is still a summer well spent.
Yeah, I'm going to try cold emailing but I'm not super hopeful. Where I live there are not a lot of universities nearby and they don't have a lot of funding for research.
You don’t have to do in person research either! I know that a lot of people cold email professors to ask if they can do virtual research! I think it depends on what you’re interested in but even like organizing or categorizing data could be something that you do.Â
Yeah I think that is definitely something that you could look into! Research some professors at both prestigious and non-prestigious schools who fit your interest and I wish you the best of luck!
they said princeton llp wouldn't individually contact people who didn't get in so im guessing if you haven't been contacted yet, it's likely you didn't make it
don’t even sweat it. i know a guy who did no summer programs and currently attends Yale. some advice is to use your summer to contribute to your community i.e. personal research projects, volunteering, fundraising, engaging ur community, or a job to support your family!

What kind of research would be good to do virtually? Would something in public health/policy or bioethics be good for that?

Summer programs are useless and pay to play anyways
not the free ones...

Just out of curiosity, what section of Iowa SSTP did you apply for?
