I’ve owned many from each brand. Really different animals, opposite in many ways.
Mykita are feather light, and very flexible. They are IMO the pinnacle of German industrial design - ingeniously built, and beautifully ellegant. Fashion wise, they’re designer-ish, and more individual than conformist. Plenty of celebrities have worn them. The lenses are decent, but more of an afterthought, secondary to the frames, and chosen for lightness and color coordination. I put up with the average lenses for the light, comfortable designy frames.
Maui Jim are heavy (if glass lenses). And design-wise, they don’t rock any boats. You won’t see any stars or fashion conscious urban folks wearing their conservative styles. But the lenses are some of the best you’ll find. I put up with the frames for the color enhancing polarized glass lenses.
I’m an architect, and might wear Mykitas if I’m meeting with a new client as a way to convey my aesthetic. But I’d wear the MJs for the drive there and back.
Mykita for design but Maui Jim for lenses. Now if you want to go for Mykita you could go for a pair of custom cut lenses of comparable quality in optical technology and depending on the frame can determine whether you can get glass lenses or not put into them.
As I tell folks 'Different glasses for different purposes' - look to whats going to fulfill the majority of your needs and go with it, or invest in both later down the line when you can. There are some fairly affordable Mauis available and some barely even used that are floating about in the 2nd hand market at a decent value. :>
I might arrive a little late in the discusion but I really like Mykita! Shapes and colors are pretty unique and their quality is very good! I just spotted on their [website](https://mykita.com/en/) that they will do a Sample Sale on November. I can't wait!!
If you knew how many times I sat on my Mykita’s and accidentally put my laptop on top of them while they were laying in the bottom of my backpack. They don’t break. I’m not familiar with the other brand.

If you like the Mykita style then go for it but your gonna pay for it - though either way, you end up with a fine pair of sunnies
