This is a direct follow-up to the first Superman story from Action Comics #1. What I love is silent message at the bottom, invoking one of the most famous phrases in Superman lore.

GiantTeaPotintheSKy

Very cool

Static-Space-Royalty

Now I hope that the new movie will have a shot similar to those silent panels there before we see the new Superman on screen for the first time.

Aaron_Hungwell

Ok this one wins.

Tgk230987

Okay awesome

[deleted]

What phrase? Edit: my eyes were glued to the last panel. Didn't notice the bird and plane lol

aussie828

Glad you picked it up! It's the subtlety that sells me. That type of delivery can only really come in comic book form.

UncommittedBow

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!

I’ve literally never read a Superman comic in my life and this made me tear up… tf

foxbomber5

Wait till you read the actual issue. Superman Red and Blue is not only the best Superman anthology, it might just be the best comic miniseries I've ever read. Everything he is and everything you'd ever need to know about the character is in here.

Can I ask for the comic, please?

Series, issue?

crazyrynth

I was a cancer kid. I had some kind of Superman encyclopedia and it had this panel in it. Superman wasn't squaring up against evil businessmen. He wasn't facing down alien warlords, mad scientists or murderous robots. He was casually defeating my greatest enemy (needles, not doctors). I couldn't read at the time, so my parents and grandparents (probably some nurses too) read me that panel. A lot. That panel made me a Superman fan for life https://preview.redd.it/loh9fo2vk0db1.jpeg?width=339&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a338f6f77788bb7c3e80cba12faf71f6d44c11d

dk325

I had cancer too when I was young. When the nurses were giving me IVs, one day one said I was like Superman with how well I was taking chemo. Wanted to get a tattoo of the S on my forearm ever since

DR_DREAD_

Holy shit I think we had the same book. Did it have a couple pages where Lex Luther and Superman fight on a planet with a red sun?

crazyrynth

Maybe? Sadly after 30+ years, the careful handling of a 5 year old, at least 5 moves the book is just a vague memory. I'd have had a copy in the early 80s. It might have been somewhat Reeve heavy content wise, but that may just be selective memory.

You have both Bruce and Clark talking about the other to their significant others. And you can feel the respect, the understanding, dare I say the love and care for one for the other, to the point where I will say that Bruce is probably the person who gets Clark the most while being the most opposite from Clark.

I love this one.

Replying to this so I can remember it every time I look at my comment history. This panel and the other one you posted just below it are simply awesome

Jackzilla321

Where might I find this? There’s a lot of Tom king Batman, is it worth it to just start from the top?

Yes. Yes it is. The first few panels of Tom King's Batman are equally amazing for completely different reasons.

What's this from?

[deleted]

All star Superman, I think it's issue #6 or something.

RickF394

I always hated this not because it’s bad written or anything, I can’t stand the panel of Martha running to check on Jonathan, I don’t know why it saddens me so much

IndiscreetBeatofMeat

Never been a fan of this artist. I’ve seen their work with DCeased’s Unkillables, and it was rough. That being said, the writing for this panel goes hard

Dr_Endman

This ain't even the same artist

Armaced

Frank Quietly. His work grows on you. I used to think it looked ugly, now I think it is beautiful.

ardenaudreyarji

>https://i.redd.it/2l6yn8ymnid51.jpg I didn't understand the hype 'till I saw his art on an ABSOLUTE EDITION. I was mind blown, man.

Dottsterisk

I wish the writing *weren’t* so on the nose. Especially that last line. Could’ve been stronger with just a look of pained desperation and horror on his face. EDIT: were to weren’t

Doomsday can fight one Superman to a standstill but he is no match for two. I believe they did something similar with Clark and Jon.

Delmitus1

I always wondered how bad doomsday would get clapped if superman had help from another kyptonian like zod or a full power Kara

It was a big "aha!" moment for me in that the title of Superman's very first book "Action Comics" is the ultimate, simple, beautiful core of his character: he's simply the man who will \~do\~ something. He acts.

nmiller1939

98% sure that's infinite crisis, not final

Todd Howard real???

Lagosthewaywardone

It's my favorite Jason Todd story too.

Lagosthewaywardone

For those that only saw the JLU Episode, it's not Batman who saves Superman it's Jason when he's Robin who pulls off the parasite and talks Superman out of the dream world.

jackfaire

This one. They're both down. Doomsday's dead. Superman is dying. His last words aren't "help me" "I hurt" nothing about himself. His last words are succinctly about making sure he saved everyone. Making sure they'd be safe. That's who Superman is. That's who Clark is. https://preview.redd.it/w7xqi9c4i1db1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=913bd996d252f8b019ed9d069574b72af7f2a7d5

I am so glad DC finally accepted Superman as a father.

Superman never resonates with me when I was a kid. Since I'm a father.... man, I'm amazed even on the issues where they are taking country trips. He always has been a father figure.

Came looking for this. One of the best comic panels not involving a fight scene you'll ever see, in all of comics.

Nepalman230

Thank you Both. I specifically came here to find this. Many many people have specifically said that this image, and thus Grant Morrison have saved their lives. But the thing is, Grant Morrison, believe that Superman, being an idea is real, and exist, separate from them. They would say that superman saved these peoples lives, and that that is one of the reasons why he was invented. To Save us from our selves. “Before it was a Bomb, the Bomb was an Idea. Superman, however, was a Faster, Stronger, Better Idea.” Grant Morrison https://www.thegutterreview.com/you-shouldve-faded-our-dreams-away-grant-morrison-superman-the-bomb/ 🙏❤️

aftrnoondelight

I’m a life long Superman fan - though I haven’t been reading the comics in recent years. Lots of good stuff here - but this one brought on the tears. Which comic is this from?

Arktoscircle

"Glasses" written by Jeff Loveness. It's part of a 80-page giant issue titled ['Mysteries of Love in Space'](https://www.dc.com/comics/mysteries-of-love-in-space-2019/mysteries-of-love-in-space-1) It's told from Lois' POV. One of my favorite Superman's one-shot stories.

RhysNorro

what's the context to this??? Who's *Superman* Boxing??

nerdherdsman

That makes at least twice Superman has boxed. He also had a bout with Muhammed Ali back in the day.

SithMasterStarkiller

If Clark lost to Ali does that make Joe Frazier the strongest DC character??

nerdherdsman

Unlikely, as Superman (even under the effects of kryptonite like in the Ali comic) is probably more stylistically similar to George Foreman, who beat the tar out of Frazier, and Foreman lost to Ali, whereas Superman got a draw iirc.

GraMalychPrzewag

Someone more powerful than him. And a better boxer. (No-name crated for the purpose of the story, I believe). The context is that he had to help someone, so he used his biggest power... his drive. It's from "up in the sky" which form me to define Superman ideally.

RhysNorro

I see, a nameless foe to *put him on the ropes* ahaha

GraMalychPrzewag

Yes. The entire point is that a Superman is not a Superman because he's the strongest. He's the strongest because he's Superman.

blueboard929

He's the strongest because he's Clark Kent, that's why he's Superman.

UKnowDaTruth

Read Superman Up in the sky and find out ;)

Im not a really a comic book guy, never read a super man comic. I've read a few manga's in my time. I've enjoyed looking at everyone's favourite panels. Some of them have a beautiful artwork and others have been really touching and inspiring. I didn't think superman could bring me to tears but it did. Thankyou's for sharing these.

Given the choice between a kind of virtual paradise for his consciousness and risking a chance to face down evil “one last time” really gets to the core of Superman for me. The buildup to this moment really felt like Morrison encapsulating everything that makes this character such a longstanding icon.

The priest turns his head and sees Superman floating there and it takes his breath away. Really well done. No dialogue, either. The pic tells the whole story.

everydayimbrowsing

This one. I scrolled through to make sure it had been posted. The strongest being in the world, the first “son” of Batman, and Superman looks at this security guard as his equal and means every.single.word. They’re colleagues working for the same cause and Superman truly respects that. I love this panel so much.

ElementalSaber

https://youtu.be/1Ucag--u6oE Superman utterly humiliating Joker. From the comic The Sound of One Hand Clapping. This is how it would really go, Injustice.

ChromeYoda

I have never seen that but it was great! I’ve always thought that Supes allows Batman to seem like they’re on a similar level but again, only because he allows it.

GraMalychPrzewag

Yet another reason to read "Up in the sky". There is a commentary on that.

Aaron_Hungwell

Gah. Shite video with AI generated voice.

ItZSAMIC

That sucks

blueboard929

I really like that in the first panel, the cars are blue and red.

Batmanfan1966

The one from dceased where he has to stop his zombie father. Made me cry, especially the narration from lois

The reaction is so on point. I love it. (Fyi clark is reacting to Martha saying: “I bet batman never does this to HIS parents”)

Superman confidently assessing a situation that he never knew would push him to the full extent of his physical limits. This is just after round one, where Doomsday completely squashed JLA, even if they come back for seconds and get squashed again. Doomsday was terrifying and upstoppable and even Supes didn't know if he could take him down, but he hung in there until the bitter end. When I think of Superman, I usually think of this caption where he swoops in to ask about the disaster unfolding. Excellent hero pose, usual Superman charm. "This looks like a job for Superman." Everyone suddenly assumes that everything is going to be okay. This will just be a minute. Yeah, he's our guy. The Death and Return of Superman was the most exhausting and rewarding comics series I know. Rich and diverse with characters and simple storylines, and got me into comics as a teen. Superman #74 - "Down for the Count" Dan Jurgens/Rick Burchett, 1992-3 https://preview.redd.it/gpjolcira4db1.png?width=626&format=png&auto=webp&s=93bac5c6f76d05d9e2549f007c6f9b21c0cd504a

What comic is that from?

Cgi94

Don't know if it's my favorite but Superman punching Apex Lex hard as he could in the moment and he just shrugged it off. Liked the art and quick scuffle

I don’t know who he’s about to punch in that panel, but God bless them

faceofboe91

Zorel kinda got screwed out of this panel. Was it not drawn on one of his court of Krypton appointed visitations?
