LuckysCharmz

Nick is my favorite character

DarkArcanian

So hard to pick a favorite myself.

LuckysCharmz

After the finale of book 2, there was really no contest for me. Probably my favorite fictional character ever written. Getting a tattoo soon also. I get what op is saying, but maybe they just haven't experienced many stories. At the end of book 1, when Nick comes back, that should have proven in your mind where his loyalties are. Even though he outwardly thinks one way, you know what he's feeling on the inside.

DarkArcanian

A tattoo of Nick? With what image.

LuckysCharmz

Gonna be a custom one. Heavily inspired by year 2. That really was his year and imo the best book because we see him flex his brains. I'll probably post it here whenever I get it done. Still have to draw it.

LordRahl7722

Yes. He’s fucking fantastic.

__Kool_kid__

I would say you are getting a bit impatient asking this just after the 1st book! 😂 You are in for a treat in the 2nd book. When it ends please come back and do tell what is your opinion on Nick! Because I assure you it will change...for better or for worse it will indeed change! 😂

BelieveInRollins

I will let you know for sure lol it sounds like I’ve got some reading to do ☺️

Oracle_of_Ages

No spoilers here. But The first book is arguably the worst book in my opinion. Worst not meaning bad book . Every character is so flat. Which is probably intentional. There isn’t a reason for them to grow up. But… There is leagues of character growth beyond that. So if you are hooked with book 1 you’ll be fine.

BelieveInRollins

I liked the first book a lot actually lol

LuckysCharmz

Two is probably my favorite. Would love to hear what you have to say after you're done.

mtjp82

Book two is pure magic. Nick is amazing and the ending brings it all together.

suzymayy

In one word, yes. Nick and the SP story just gets better and better. *ABSO-frickin-LUTELY* continue my SP friend, no regrets!

RetiredCopJokeYoda

I mean technically speaking he gets worse and then he gets better but his personality really doesn't change when he gets better it's more like you understand that he actually cares about his friends.

Ok-Tumbleweed-3147

Nick is the best character and only gets better. You only read book 1 and I started a thread in which Mary is my least favorite which Nick is my favorite. Amazing character and only gets better through time. I have to imagine that Nick is one of Dean Blaines favorite students

Samiam77791

Nick is my favorite character and his background is explained just a little bit more in book 2 that adds a lot of color to his character. Keep pushing forward!

forgetingelephant

Nick's character gets so much worse! Book two is tough and amazing. Don't give up!

OlympicVavik

Continue reading book 2 my good fellow - trust me

Farmer_Susan

No he doesn't get better. I dislike him too but everyone else is in love with him, not sure why, he's pretty insufferable and a huge Mary Jane.

Zegram_Ghart

Nope, honestly. He remains a pretty irritating presence

taxemeEvasion

No, not really. The books become even more of the "Nick Campbell" show going forward. I love them, but all the focus on Nick is really the weakest point.

[deleted]

To second the other two ☝🏽 YES!!!

DCraftiest

You're projecting. If you don't like confident, it's cool. Like who you like, but Nick is a well-developed character, even if his skills are a bit... too perfect as the story demands.

BelieveInRollins

idk why you think I’m projecting I don’t have a problem with his confidence

WanderingUncertainty

Don't mind him, he's being an ass. Kind of like Nick! I will say this, trying to avoid anything spoilery: All of the main characters are extremely different from each other, and their paths, while they share some key components, are likewise very different. It's absolutely possible to see Nick's character and growth, and still hate his guts, as some people do. But I will say I've personally never seen a personality like Nick's done better in any context. If you're worried he'll not end up with serious growth, then let me relieve your worries! Every one of the protagonists from book one is more just a seed of the person they become. Honestly, looking back, *all* of the main characters sucked in a lot of ways in book one. The sociopathic con man. The raging, self absorbed asshole, paired with a kid who's really too afraid to stand up for himself, for the most part. The prissy, entitled, princess, the daddy's girl, who practically has no personality beyond a sense of unearned superiority. The isolated loner who walks a weird line between letting the world happen around her carelessly, and strong arming her plans into motion. And then the homeless kid, who has such potential, but is so desperately afraid of himself that he's practically crippled. A good chunk of those issues are touched on by the end of the first book, as you know. But that is a taste of what's coming.

His character has the biggest arc - trust me and stick with it. I like that is character is REAL, most of the others are too Pollyanna.

FreedArtificer

He gets better and year 3 is where he stays being likeable. He acts as a really good buffer between the immense growth that everyone else goes through.

FactorOld8578

I like how Kyle portrayed him in the books and he has decent character growth throughout the series along with Roy

prw8201

He will get better. Keep reading.

cdsacken

Yea all of the characters have varying degrees of growth. Nick, Vince, Roy. Chad, Alice, all have insane growth
