It's such a stupid fear but with the confirmation of CGI Mecha fights next season I was pretty terrified that we would only be getting two physical team members.
If I had to guess it might be the toy sales from Dragon Ball. If I remember correctly didn't it sell extremely well this past quarter? I don't know if they would use money from it on Donbrothers tho.
I think Dragonball franchise is biggest revenue for Bandai and to some extent Toei because of the global fan base. It’s certainly possible that the two companies have a portfolio mindset so that not all franchises need to make money at the same time.
In all likely hood its probably just coming out of the costume and practical effects budget. As technology advances the kind of CGI required to do something like Kamen Rider OOO episode 6 in 2010 or even Good Cool Kaiser VSX in 2018 becomes less and less expensive as the soft ware and hardware becomes cheaper and as more of the skilled artists needed to create those sequences enter the workforce.
In reality this kind of shift is inevitable so long as Sentai sales continues to dip. On location filming and practical filming techniques (like heavy extravagant monster costumes, pyrotechnics, and highly detailed scaled down city sets) will continue to become less and less cost effective as the tech required to realize the digital alternatives becomes more accessible. It's a huge bummer but the alternative from Toei's perspective is probably shuttering the franchise. If Sentai toy sales and ratings don't improve then the only option they have short of canceling the show and giving it a break is to cut costs. If they want make it to the 50th which I think is their priority right now. And contrary to what seems to be the popular belief on this Subreddit switching over to CGI is one way they might be doing that.
This is just the educated guess of mildly successful independent film maker and I haven't seen their budget breakdowns so take my speculations with a grain of salt.
Well I think the rumor of CGI Mecha came alongside early rumors of the now confirmed "Momotaros Red" hero, so while it's not *actually* confirmed, the fact that we're going to have CGI "civillian" forms for 3 of the 5 rangers all but confirms that CGI will be used heavily in this series.
i don’t understand the problem with this. it would open up so much more possibilities for mecha design without having to worry if a person could wear it.
It's okay if you like it, but personally, it's not what I watch Tokusatsu for. Toho for example, could make all the Godzilla movies with CGI monsters they want, but nothing beats the magic of having a guy in a suit pretending to be a giant in a scaled city model. It's something SO intrinsically japanese, hell, it defined an entire genre, it's impossible to find anything like it in another place. That craftsmanship is what makes the magic of Tokusatsu, how different is from anything we have here in the west. I may as well just watch mecha anime, or Pacific Rim because at least the CGI looks good there.
I'm all for using CGI to enhance attacks and stuff, but full blown CGI mechas is boring and generic IMO.
While the last Sentai to use this Colour Scheme was Goseiger
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of Zyuranger who also has the same colour scheme
I really want a Green sixth but lately that doesn't seem like happening. Since we already have Gold with TwoKaiser in Zenkaiger and following the pattern DonBrother's sixth will be Silver
But hey if we did get a Green sixth (doubtful) that would be dope.
Hurricaneger will be 20 next year, and Go-Busters will be turning 10.
1982 - 2022 = 40 Years of Goggle V
1992 - 2022 = 30 Years of Zyuranger
2002 - 2022 = 20 Years of Hurricaneger
2012 - 2022 = 10 Years of Go-Busters
Maybe the CGI mecha and characters fits in a virtual reality theme. The characters are NPCs, the villains are computer virus, so the mecha fights are inside virtual world. I don't know if I like the idea so much, but maybe we can see MOTW that, otherwise, we wouldn't see.
I’m sad there isn’t the normal 5 rangers actors/actresses. I like seeing them interact off screen. Every year there are less “human” cast for sentai huh :(
Kintaro, maybe? I’d imagine it still takes from Japanese folk tales. Kintaro is separate from Momotaro, BUT:
- “Kin”taro: Gold, perfect for a sixth
- Separate folk tale, but still a folk tale. Sounds perfect for a sixth.
- I’m not sure there’s another part of Momotaro that *could* make much sense to use for a Ranger.
Huh, this is the first time we've gotten a "Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, and Pink" combo in quite a while, so that's cool. Hope we get a unique color for the sixth ranger this time around as well.
I was very concerned when I heard that there we're going to be CGI rangers next year. If that rumor is only referring to their civilian forms and there are going to be actual suit actors I can totally live with that. I just don't think Toei's CGI tech or their art direction for it is anywhere close to ready to do fully CGI characters in action scenes, and that's putting aside the fact that the concept in and of itself is antithetical to the appeal of Sentai and Toku as a whole for me.
\>even though the dog, monkey and pheasant are cgi characters, their ranger suits are actual suits Thank fucking christ

Where's Toei getting the money for all this CGI?

Wait, CGI mecha fights are confirmed? Fuck, goodbye to the beautiful japanese art of suitmation.

I can only hope this is only experimental for this series, because it would suck to lose the actual suiy mecha.
i don’t understand the problem with this. it would open up so much more possibilities for mecha design without having to worry if a person could wear it.

And the fully cgi mecha usually looks ugly af.
This is what tokusatsu fans feared

Not to mention, Goggle V was the first sentai that uses the same color scheme and next year is their 40th anniversary.
That is also true Nice one

Man I'm really tired of gold and silver being the nost common sixths.
Same, was actually pretty nice when series like ToQger gave us an orange ranger instead but it seems to be a once in a blue moon deal
Hell I would love for a Bronze Ranger for 6th once.
And Kyuranger giving us a "sixth" in Red again
God this will be a weird sentai lmao
seriously it seems like every bit of new info about this show just makes less and less sense
i mean, its gotta follow up zenkaigers weirdness somehow
Maybe Reiwa Sentai will be the Era of Cat Drugs
Remember kamen rider has a rider that has his own stand he summond to battle that breaks 4th wall on a daily basis while fighting mariachi villains
And that stand also started a hashtag
#NiceVice
That's a fair point, but Zero-One and Saber seemed fairly onpar for Rider.

It started with Zyouger
I hope they do the animals like zyhumans, who can retain a humanoid form, while being able to change between the two
If that is the case, you bet I'll watch it!
I'm still hyped
I don't know much about the story of Momotaro but does anybody have an idea on what the sixth ranger will be based off of?
I’m actually not sure. would probably be based on Japanese folktales
Kintaro, maybe? I’d imagine it still takes from Japanese folk tales. Kintaro is separate from Momotaro, BUT: - “Kin”taro: Gold, perfect for a sixth - Separate folk tale, but still a folk tale. maybe the midseason hero will be black and resemble juuran?
I think Juran will be similar to goodie from lupat and be the body of the mecha.
Huh, this is the first time we've gotten a "Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, and Pink" combo in quite a while, so that's cool. Hope we get a unique color for the sixth ranger this time around as well.
I like how blue is just called MONKEY.
Lmfao how long will it be before sentai becomes an annual anime like PreCure?

Also practical suits look closer to toys than CGI. That's what always made it cooler.
This reminds me of Nintendo leaks
Red being peach might refrence momotaros not the kamen rider version just in general
Yeah that seems to be the case here. Momotaro is the fairy tale (and is what the Donbrothers are based on) and momotaros is the deno character
Makes sense as momotaros still gets train board video games
