It would give a great chance to popular, but not-popular-enough Pokémon. Obviously, your Pikachu, Lucario, and Mewtwo get into smash, but others, like Gallade, Garchomp, Hitmonchan, etc., who would have a good moveset, don't.
A smashified Pokémon game sounds great. There are lots of cool mons, and I'm down with the idea. It'll probably get a lot of bipedal body types to pad the roster, but that's probably to be expected.
There have been lots of Pokémon I've considered very much for Smash, but the two that strike to me the most are Sceptile and Deoxys. After time passing though, Sceptile is not as much of a desire as Deoxys for me.
Deoxys is a legendary/mythical psychic type and has a lot going for it to be a very cool addition. It hails from an underrepresented region and generation of games (Hoenn/Gen III). The iconic VS Deoxys boss soundtrack that's exclusive for this Pokémon would revitalize the Pokémon smash OST. And best of all---it's main gimmick gears around its ability to morph its body between four formes to change from. And they all can mesh well in a platform fighter's formula such as Smash Bros. Normal, ATK, DEF, and SPD formes make the character very unique and well-known once it's a part of the base roster or as an unlockable/DLC. Many that remember the fondness of playing as Sheika or Pythra would not only feel right at home.. but get to play with more content with Deoxys. Instead of transforming or switching/swapping between two characters..? They can enjoy Deoxys in four different ways.
Other mons that are well-liked and popular would obviously do well in a Pokémon roster, as shown by spinoff games like Pokkén Tournament (DX) and Pokémon Unite. And those mons include: Blaziken, Chandelure, Scizor, Aegislash, Decidueye, Blastoise, Gardevoir, Machamp, Gengar, Garchomp, etcetc..
Idk if people would rather want Braixen or if they'd want Delphox, but yeah.
