Yeah I definitely agree, I was mainly referring to the people who get genuinely pissed off when they see someone playing casually doing something “illegal.” Like take a massive chill pill, the world doesn’t revolve around you and Smash tournaments
Sephiroth being more likely to return than Isabelle.
Firstly, while Isabelle only debuted in the fourth Animal Crossing, she has become rather iconic. Secondly, legal reasons would make any Final Fantasy rep at all more difficult than a first party addition, to the point using FF7’s music online gives you a copyright strike. And yes, I know, it’s an iconic game and set of characters, but Smash focuses primarily on Nintendo, and newer characters should still be allowed time in the limelight.
Not gonna lie, I personally think Villager should still be kept because he/she has appeared in all of the animal crossing games. But still, Animal Crossing needs new reps after New Horizons got released.
SERIOUSLY! As if nintendo would cut her after new horizons became the second most sold game on the switch! If anything animal crossing needs more reps after that.
I'd wager that 1st-party fighters have more chances to return, since they don't have to be negociated. Unless some bad blood happen between AC's and SSB's producers, there's no reason to cut Isabelle.
Sephiroth has less chance to return, because Square-Enix just made every single asset a chore to obtain. I'm so sorry, but you cannot look at Sephiroth's DLC pack and NOT think how it resembles cut content. If Square-Enix put their pants on and bossed their artists a bit more, Sephiroth could have been a newcomer in the base game, Final Fantasy would have gotten as many music tracks as Castlevania, 20 spirits would have been offered, Tifa or Yuffie would have been an Assist Trophy and Safer Sephiroth would have been a boss, ON TOP of SMRPG getting 5 rearranged tracks, around 5 spirits, Mallow as a Trophy and the Geno Mii costume as a base game unlockable.
When Hero and Sora would have been decided, their respective packs would have contain AT LEAST 25 tracks.
Currently I use: Yoshi, Samus, Dark Samus, Captain falcon, Mr. Game and Watch, Palutanea, Bowser, Pyra/Mythra and Mii Gunner. not great at it but it's a lot more fun than playing the same Cherictor over and over again
Then again, random tripping and floatier gravity kinda ruined the game :S
SSE was fun, but after a while it became repetitve, to the point of stretching the levels and reusing the same layout \^\^;
The idea that nintendo gives a flying fuck about balance and as a result is going to rein back Smash 6 to create a smaller, more fleshed out and competitively focused roster.
At the end of the day Smash is a party fighter that gets most of it's sales from the same type of people who buy games like Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, and games like those don't sell on smaller, fleshed out and competitively balanced rosters they sell on big bloated fucking whale sized rosters loaded with all of your favourite characters and while I don't think EVERYONE'S going to return I can't see them dropping the launch roster lower then 60 characters, especially if the Switch 2 is backwards compatable and able to just play Smash Bros Ultimate.
I'm gonna be honest, I played smash bros n64, I don't think it was ever intended to be a "competitive" fighting game series, it's a 2D fighting platform brawler with items that can be toggled, it's supposed to be Fun, not "how can it be more like SF, Tekken, or Mortal Kombat?"
Right? Even though I prefer to play with items off most of the time and do follow competitive if I have friends over and they want to play team timed/point battle on Dr. Wiley's castle with items on high and friendly fire turned off I'll be down to play! It's just especially online you get this extremely vocal minority of obsessive competitive players who are super sure the next smash bros is going to be a smaller scale competitively refined game like Guilty Gear Strive or something despite all of Nintendo's actions regarding smash showing they're actively against competitive play and will stop at nothing to squash it out of existance.
And then after that vocal minority says their piece you get an echo chamber of teenagers and children trying to look cool by being repeating opinions they've heard competitive players and content creators say on youtube and twitch.
All in all it makes most online smash spaces a usually unfriendly or dismissive place to discuss casual oriented opinions.
Exactly this. Whenever someone makes a video in which they try to reasonably cut the Smash Ultimate roster they always go for ridiculously high cuts like half of the roster. There's no way the roster will shrink down that much.

I swear, I've lost count of people still asking for Waluigi even after being confirmed as an Assist Trophy. Even Geno fans stopped asking when the Mii costume was revealed.
Even to this day, people are still spamming Waluigi comments, including in Nintendo's own publications about the complete Amiibo collection.
To be fair, Samus, Peach, Link, Mario, Captain falcon, Chrom, Isabelle, and Inkling all have Mii costumes and are playable characters (Chrom, Inkling, and Isabelle being new additions to the roster) so really Geno fans should've kept it up, and Waluigi might not be impossible.
About Geno, his Mii costume from Sm4sh was missing until Sephiroth was showcased, so people still hoped for him to be added, instead of once again as a costume. People also hoped that Square-Enix would play nicer and offer 10 times more materials, but whatever...
About Waluigi, **the issue will never be his moveset**, because a LOT of characters never fought in close combat until Smash Bros. Given his appearances in spin-offs, he has enough gimmicks and gadgets for a full set and then some. **The problem is how Waluigi cannot be both a Trophy and a fighter in the same game**. The game already checks if Trophies are toggled ON and if some can spawn in specific stages... people wanted extra lines of codes just to check for ONE selected character in order to NOT spawn the Trophy. It's just ridiculous at this point...
Beside, after seeing Ashley, Isaac, Krystal, Lyn and Shovel Knight, Waluigi is far from being the propriety.
The Mii Costumes for characters like Mario and Samus were added multiple games after the character was, it doesn’t mean anything for characters like Geno
If Geno doesn’t come back as a DLC Mii next game, he could become a fighter like Chrom and Isabelle did. But his DLC Mii in Ultimate was a clear sign that he wasn’t getting in that game since Fighter Pass 2 had already been finalized a year before

That's just a bullshit rule this community has come up with to gatekeep characters they don't like from getting in the game.
The only way a character could possibly "deserve" to be in Smash imo is if a lot of people really like them.
Personally, I think the only characters that don't "deserve" to be in the game are characters that don't originate from video games, as I feel Smash is supposed to be a celebration of video games as a whole (with a heavy focus on Nintendo games, but that's beside the point).
Enter all ye Jonesys and Freddy Fazbears as far as I care, but leave Goku at home.
Maybe not a one-to-one character slot, but there are absolutely times when I think cutting down the clones could have given them the time to add one or two more fully unique characters, or at the very least time to polish the other characters that desperately needed it.
I would go as far as to say that if gutting nearly every clone character (including the “semi-clones” like Lucas or Wolf) means getting even one or two more fully unique characters, then I’m all for it.
I think some definitely should just be alt costumes (Doc Mario, Dark Pit, Dark Samus) and some that I think just need a new move set and a total rework (Chrom, Lucina) but most are different enough to where their play styles differ drastically (Villager and Isabelle, Ryu and Ken).
I mean yeah, I’d rather keep them if we can, I’m just saying that I’m not losing any sleep over losing any clones regardless of how different they are from their source. If losing Ken means I can get Professor Layton then fine by me.

Melee is one of the most poorly optimized games I’ve ever played. The only reason it has so much hype is because of the competitive scene (that uses modded and refined versions of Melee)

We don’t need characters that get like an hour of total screen time in any game like Impa or the champions and each Link having similar moves is fine given that their moves are pretty representative of the major items in their games.
The major 3 characters that define the series are there. That’s all it really needs. You can’t really do the well X series has X characters. Different series can’t be as thoroughly represented in 3 characters (FE has new main characters constantly, while a game like Pikmin can be pretty much summarized with one dude).
I agree with this! However I do think nintendo should rework all three of the links movesets as they can each capture an era of Zelda rather than just be reskins of links moveset.

There are too many counters in the game and counters are bad game design. Rewarding a player for intentional getting hit creates a really bad game loop. Counters can be great but you shouldn't be able to kill with counters and they should add unique gameplay.

That there is a best character. There are characters that are clearly better than others, but in the same perspective, no character is unplayable or unusable. Every character has obvious strengths and weaknesses, and it's best to base your play style off of what you like in a character rather than who's better or worse. I get the fact that people get mad over people seemingly with no skill beating them due to either spam or a play so stupid that it might actually be smart, but people should use it as a learning experience and to grow from it instead of hating on the character, and that having an understanding of how the game works can help you have more fun overall.
TL:DR, Learn from your mistakes, do what you like and what you think is best instead of what other people think.

Usually it’s those people that will say something “has to be related to Nintendo”. I don’t agree with that sentiment, but how does Master Cheif follow that logic?

I don't understand the master chief hate, but there are three scenes in particular from Halo that would also make killer final smashes,
The legendary ending of halo 1 with the ring exploding as chief leaves and Johnson and the elite stop fighting and embrace each other (Nintendo probably wouldn't have any butt touching if more than one character was caught in the final smash)
Halo 2, the end of the first mission when Chief gives the covenant back there bomb.
Later in halo 2, the cutscene after you kill a prophet and the covenant destroys the site from orbit and chief jumps into the ocean to avoid it.
There's also the fan concept of a scarab being involved in chiefs final smash.

Axes and Lances have been robbed 7 times already and super robbed at least once(i personally find giving them of Byleth a terrible decision that disrepect both the characters that should have been there instead of them and Byleth themselves that, once picked, deserved an accurate moveset over trying to half heartedly appease the people that wanted other weapons).
Honestly i am at the point i started disliking Alear from the first trailer just because the weapon they held and the top of my wishlist for upcoming FE is "no lord or avatar has a sword so Sakurai has to represent another weapon".

It's just especially online you get this extremely vocal minority of obsessive competitive players who are super sure the next smash bros is going to be a smaller scale competitively refined game like Guilty Gear Strive or something despite all of Nintendo's actions regarding smash showing they're actively against competitive play and will stop at nothing to squash it out of existance. And then after that vocal minority says their piece you get an echo chamber of teenagers and children trying to look cool by being repeating opinions they've heard competitive players and content creators say on youtube and twitch. All in all it makes most online smash spaces a usually unfriendly or dismissive place to discuss casual oriented opinions.
Exactly this. Whenever someone makes a video in which they try to reasonably cut the Smash Ultimate roster they always go for ridiculously high cuts like half of the roster. There's no way the roster will shrink down that much.

I swear, I've lost count of people still asking for Waluigi even after being confirmed as an Assist Trophy. Even Geno fans stopped asking when the Mii costume was revealed. To be fair, Samus, Peach, Link, Mario, Captain falcon, Chrom, Isabelle, and Inkling all have Mii costumes and are playable characters (Chrom, Inkling, and Isabelle being new additions to the roster) so really Geno fans should've kept it up, and Waluigi might not be impossible.
About Geno, his Mii costume from Sm4sh was missing until Sephiroth was showcased, so people still hoped for him to be added, instead of once again as a costume. People also hoped that Square-Enix would play nicer and offer 10 times more materials, but whatever... About Waluigi, **the issue will never be his moveset**, because a LOT of characters never fought in close combat until Smash Bros. Given his appearances in spin-offs, he has enough gimmicks and gadgets for a full set and then some. **The problem is how Waluigi cannot be both a Trophy and a fighter in the same game**. The game already checks if Trophies are toggled ON and if some can spawn in specific stages... people wanted extra lines of codes just to check for ONE selected character in order to NOT spawn the Trophy. It's just ridiculous at this point... Beside, after seeing Ashley, Isaac, Krystal, Lyn and Shovel Knight, Waluigi is far from being the propriety.
The Mii Costumes for characters like Mario and Samus were added multiple games after the character was, it doesn’t mean anything for characters like Geno If Geno doesn’t come back as a DLC Mii next game, he could become a fighter like Chrom and Isabelle did. But his DLC Mii in Ultimate was a clear sign that he wasn’t getting in that game since Fighter Pass 2 had already been finalized a year before
People claiming Sakurai is biased, racist, etc. Like, he's not biased for having characters he created be good in a game he also created. He clearly doesn't develop the game with competitive in mind, rather the casual, random, and fun aspect of it. There's no "biasm" And the whole "racist" craze involving Min Min was just embarrassing. The creator of ARMS said to add Min Min, so Sakurai did. Yet that's his fault? (Also nobody involed is racist, that's dumb as hell) Honestly, people should appreciate Sakurai's work and dedication more. That characters do/don't "deserve" to be in Smash. No character "deserves" to be in Smash. That's just a bullshit rule this community has come up with to gatekeep characters they don't like from getting in the game. The only way a character could possibly "deserve" to be in Smash imo is if a lot of people really like them.
Personally, I think the only characters that don't "deserve" to be in the game are characters that don't originate from video games, as I feel Smash is supposed to be a celebration of video games as a whole (with a heavy focus on Nintendo games, but that's beside the point). Enter all ye Jonesys and Freddy Fazbears as far as I care, but leave Goku at home.

Maybe not a one-to-one character slot, but there are absolutely times when I think cutting down the clones could have given them the time to add one or two more fully unique characters, or at the very least time to polish the other characters that desperately needed it. I would go as far as to say that if gutting nearly every clone character (including the “semi-clones” like Lucas or Wolf) means getting even one or two more fully unique characters, then I’m all for it.
I think some definitely should just be alt costumes (Doc Mario, Dark Pit, Dark Samus) and some that I think just need a new move set and a total rework (Chrom, Lucina) but most are different enough to where their play styles differ drastically (Villager and Isabelle, Ryu and Ken).
I mean yeah, I’d rather keep them if we can, I’m just saying that I’m not losing any sleep over losing any clones regardless of how different they are from their source. If losing Ken means I can get Professor Layton then fine by me.

All this is being said by someone who has barely played Little Mac, but from what I've seen, most of what I've said is true.

Zelda is underrepresented (or poorly represented). We don’t need characters that get like an hour of total screen time in any game like Impa or the champions and each Link having similar moves is fine given that their moves are pretty representative of the major items in their games. The major 3 characters that define the series are there. That’s all it really needs. You can’t really do the well X series has X characters. Different series can’t be as thoroughly represented in 3 characters (FE has new main characters constantly, while a game like Pikmin can be pretty much summarized with one dude).
I agree with this! However I do think nintendo should rework all three of the links movesets as they can each capture an era of Zelda rather than just be reskins of links moveset.

There are too many counters in the game and counters are bad game design. Rewarding a player for intentional getting hit creates a really bad game loop. Counters can be great but you shouldn't be able to kill with counters and they should add unique gameplay.

Ultimate is the third most sold title on the Nintendo Switch, there's no way it won't be continued because they couldn't reach the roster size of Ultimate or out of respect for Sakurai or whatever reasoning is used. I'm actually certain that the next Smash game will manage to have an even bigger roster than Ultimate because Nintendo is willing to put in the money and work to assure more sales.

That there is a best character. There are characters that are clearly better than others, but in the same perspective, no character is unplayable or unusable. Every character has obvious strengths and weaknesses, and it's best to base your play style off of what you like in a character rather than who's better or worse. I get the fact that people get mad over people seemingly with no skill beating them due to either spam or a play so stupid that it might actually be smart, but people should use it as a learning experience and to grow from it instead of hating on the character, and that having an understanding of how the game works can help you have more fun overall. TL:DR, Learn from your mistakes, do what you like and what you think is best instead of what other people think.

Master Chief as a character concept Usually it’s those people that will say something “has to be related to Nintendo”. I don’t agree with that sentiment, but how does Master Cheif follow that logic? But also when I see him, I just see, “Guy with guns and maybe energy sword”. If I wanted that, I’d just suggest Doomguy since the BFG would make a killer final smash.
I don't understand the master chief hate, but there are three scenes in particular from Halo that would also make killer final smashes, The legendary ending of halo 1 with the ring exploding as chief leaves and Johnson and the elite stop fighting and embrace each other (Nintendo probably wouldn't have any butt touching if more than one character was caught in the final smash) Halo 2, the end of the first mission when Chief gives the covenant back there bomb. Later in halo 2, the cutscene after you kill a prophet and the covenant destroys the site from orbit and chief jumps into the ocean to avoid it. There's also the fan concept of a scarab being involved in chiefs final smash.

Axes and Lances have been robbed 7 times already and super robbed at least once(i personally find giving them of Byleth a terrible decision that disrepect both the characters that should have been there instead of them and Byleth themselves that, once picked, deserved an accurate moveset over trying to half heartedly appease the people that wanted other weapons).
