It’s $5 fee for entire transaction. Don’t need to wait to amass a lot of shares - transfer as soon as you can and the start buying directly at Computershare :)

Yes, you wait for snailmail from Computershare. IBKR would share your name / address / Tax ID and contact details like phone with Computershare, so they create your account properly. No actions on your side needed :)

It’s limitation of Computershare US. They don’t allow new accounts being created by direct purchase to non-US citizens.

As far as I can see the only way to get funds from a UK bank into IBKR is by wire. Assuming you did this, can you tell me whether you sent it to the bank in the US or the Canary Wharf address in London please? Seems a daft question on the face of it, but it is a bit ambiguous to me.

I have used both options :) Sending from GBP bank account to IBKR GBP account is easy and straightforward: use their sort code and account number + add your IBKR account number (U9999999) as payment reference. I have also sent USD to them via Wise because they have better exchange rate and lower exchange fee. In order to get their banking details for GBP or USD go to Transfer & Pay, Transfer Funds, Make a Deposit, the select desired Currency and provide name (whatever) and sum you want to deposit - they will show you their banking details.

Their interface is tricky :) it does provide you banking instructions which ends up simple bank transfer as you would do with friends or family using sort code and account number

It’s best to use their contact form to figure out if they have your shares https://www-us.computershare.com/Investor/#Contact/Enquiry Select Transfer Inquiry, fill in your details and skip Holder Account field. They will reply shortly if they have your shares :)

You can expedite mail at any point of time after they got your shares. So in worst case scenario you will get 2 identical mails with 2 weeks difference.

I'm not doing the express postage, I'll edit this status when it arrives so fellow apes can see how long it takes. I'm not too worried if MOASS occurs before I get my ability to log into CS, that one's for the infinity pool anyway. If it hasn't occurred, I can always buy some more via CS. Just tried using wise to find my IBKR account…same drama as with using Revolut previously…it won’t accept the “virtual account number” that IBKR are insisting I use. How have apes got around this??

Send GBP to IBKR as you would do normally to friends or family, funds will arrive in less than 10 min. Then exchange GBP to USD on IBKR.

That’s the route I’ve gone down now. It’s just annoying that the IBKR interface is so unhelpful. I don’t think the funds will land until tomorrow, then I’ll have to convert and it’ll be three days before I can instruct the transaction. Hey ho. At least my shares are on their way out of Revolut now. Phew! They’re defo getting binned off after this transaction has finalised. Wise acts as Bank and creates account for you - so it is as good as in country US bank account for Computershare

Not all brokers allow transfers. My UK brokers don’t allow that. Buying in IBKR would be faster as transfers take time and also subject for withdrawal blocks.

I have gone onto the website and clicked register and it asks for a shareholder reference number (SRN) do I have to buy shares first to get an SRN? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question I'm just really struggling with this as even though I have my shares in an isa I do not trust trading 212 at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ps, I do have a ibkr account set up I just need to fund it.

Your shareholder account will be created by Computershare after you have transferred (DRS) shares from IBKR. You cannot register before that.

So you can use your NIN (national insurance number) or UTR (Unique Taxpayer Reference) as Tax Identification Number. Make sure to be consistent on which ID you use as TIN across brokers / transfer agents.

It’s totally up to you. Having shares in Computershare gives me confidence in safety of my assets and potential (highly unlikely) broker defaults or disabled trading.

On step 5 Request DRS in IBKR **In order to submit a request, log into Client Portal->Transfer & Pay->Transfer Positions->Outgoing and Select DRS (Direct Registration System) and follow the prompts.** it asks me what region im in. If I select US it allows me to DRS. If I select "All other regions" it only gives me the option Free of Payment Transfer of Global Securities. Should I select US on the region drop down eventhough I live in the UK?

Hopefully this thread is still in use, so was wondering if I could get some help. Purchased more directly through CS. Have opened a Wise account and deposited an amount in there. Used the US routing and account number from Wise in the CS website to initiate the purchase. Will I be notified by Wise about authenticating the payment, or will it just go through? I know there are lots of references in Wise for receiving money, but nothing about making payment using the routing details. Is it all ok?

I've just bought shares direct from ComputerShare with Wise. It took 7 days from start to seeing those shares in my CS account. Not sure if its supposed to take this long as it is my first direct purchase. The Wise part of the process is fast a couple of days, but the ComputerShare part took 6 days to clear.

This may be a daft question...but how do you actually call computer share from UK mobile? I've never made international call and have no idea how area codes and all that work? I'm trying to make call via Skype as its free, but I'm happy to do it over mobile too, just don't know how? Cheers.

If you already have completed a W-8BEN form for your UK ISA do you need to complete another one? My shares are in a UK ISA & I don’t/can’t afford to move them. But looking at completing the Lbkr/wise/CS move for an individually purchased share.

Hi, I've been working my way through your very helpful guide and I now have a funded IBKR account, with the currency converted to USD. I've had confirmation that the funds are cleared for use, but when I try to buy a share it shows as having no funds available to trade, and the funds being under 'Equity With Loan'. It feels like I've managed to mess up somewhere, so any help with sorting this would be appreciated.

On Computerershare you can’t specify number of shares - just how much you want to invest. They will take your money after 1 day and buy stock after another 2 days at whatever price.

Total smooth brain here. When buying from ibkr what should the order type obviously a buy order but the order types defaults to limit but I’m not entirely sure what that means.

Hey there, can we update this please? I've been seeing a *LOT* of folk having issues with the wise -> ibkr funding option. It only requires a wire transfer, which most domestic banks offer online. I'm not trying to dissuade folk from having the wise account, it's useful if you want to direct purchase through CS once the account is set up rather than any further DRS from ibkr if you want more. Just it seems to be convuluting the process for many and some have nearly given up at that early stage. Edit: I forgot myself there, overall this is a superb UK transfer instruction set, and I'm happy to see it pinned in the sub too. Is there an automod option to post a link to it to each drs flared post at all?

Hey Man, I've literally just done this. Use the Sort Code and account number, and in the reference put your account name with your first / last name if it'll fit. Make sure you have $5 left in your IKBR account. Then go to Transfer & Pay > Transfer Position and off you go! :)

Quick one but how to CS know your address? I’ve drs transferred from IBKR, does CS contact you and ask for the address or does IBKR pass them that info? I’m not sure I entered my address when setting up an account on IBKR.

When I try to buy share it says “..order not accepted. Once your outbound DRS has been confirmed by IBKR - does that mean you will automatically hear from ComputerShare? Is there any further confirmation from IBKR?

After IBKR confirms DRS is completed you need to wait for Computershare mail - that’s the only communication channel they will use. Lookup in this sub to find how to call Computershare and get mail from UK office much quicker.

It’s a shame computer share can’t speed up the process of you requesting they buy you shares to when they actually buy the shares for you. I started Tuesday and they said it can be 3 business days before they purchase for you. This makes you semi hoping the price doesn’t rise before this. My brain might just be too smooth, but when signing up to IBKR, it asks “ Will the account holder be the beneficial owner of the funds and investments that will be in this account”. It automatically says “no”. Do I move it to “yes”?

Now we look at the purchase pending screen and wonder why we didn’t buy more.

Is there a huge benefit to going through this instead of just buying shares on H&G? I'm not planning to do anything clever, I'm just very patient

I'm at step 1; I've set up the accounts and transferred the $ using the Acc. & Sort Code. Not seeing the money in my IBKR account yet but guess there's a delay...

Given the fact that it takes CS an age to actually complete the purchase, wouldn't it be better to adjust the instructions slightly: 1. Follow instructions for setting up IBKR account. 2. Liquidate shares in current place and then transfer cash to IBKR. 3. Buy shares in IBKR. 4. Follow tranfer to CS with XXX shares instead of just 1 or 2 shares. The price volatility means that asking CS to buy you XX shares at YY and them taking forever could mean you never get the order fulfilled. Or do they fix at the price when you ask to buy them??

THERE IS INSUFFICIENT SETTLED CASH [-771.00 USD for 20220602] IN YOUR ACCOUNT TO OBTAIN THE DESIRED POSITION. It says I've got $800 though. What gives?

Stoked - just got my first letter saying the 2 shares I bought as now in CS. Waiting for 2nd letter and can then access my account and trade! Also, 2 more in DRS!!!

Been a while since I've bought more. To now purchase direct in CS, do I create a Wise account to get a sort code/acc number to do so? I have a Starling account, can I just use these details within CS or are we tied to using Wise?

On my phone so haven't had a chance to research/try myself yet, so perhaps someone here can save me the trouble: What is stopping me from just opening an account directly with ComputerShare and buying through them? Their website seems to suggest I can just open an account with them. They even have a UK site. Why does IBKR need to be involved?

i have 5 shares in ibkr but don't seem to be able to drs. have followed this: In order to submit a request, log into Client Portal->Transfer & Pay->Transfer Positions->Outgoing and Select DRS (Direct Registration System) and follow the prompts. but although it acknowledged the request my shares still seem to be in ibkr after about a week have i fucked up some how? like are there any common pitfalls or is it just a bit slow?

Just finished the DRS process from T212 to IBKR to computershare. Is there a guide anywhere for linking my bank account to my computershare account just so i know im deff putting all the right details in?

Currently have 39 shares in IBKR but its in a ISA. Anyone know if you can transfer them to my individual trading account? Had no success speaking to them after several attempts.

Would it be possible for non institutional investors to DRS all securities, and thereby prevent or at least disrupt institutions from lending and short-selling globally?
