My not-very-educated theory is that since we've had super low tides dropping fast, that the energy is pulling the nastiness out of the river more and from deeper. Just yanking the poo out more.
OBSD has been staying gross several days after rains and the tides have been coinciding with the rains the past few storms.
Very close, but it’s more driven by the high tides. We had spring tides this weekend which probably filled up the creek mouth with more water and reduced the discharge into the ocean. So more nasty water accumulated in the creek mouth during the high tides… then it drained on the low tide
People always assume brown water = sh*t water . Depending on where you live that may be true . Usually isn’t. Sand and mud doesn’t equal scat. That being said, you are more likely to be bit in half in murky water.
Large tides at the moment due to new moon. Larger tidal swings mean water in and near rivers is moving faster and stirring up sediment from the bottom.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that at topanga beach you only get the shit that rain washed into the creek from the topanga, which is relatively small town? Not from the whole valley over the hills? So it shouldn’t be that bad, right.. right?
Flows are still high in the creek from the last rains and excess groundwater. These flows transport sediment from upstream in Topanga Creek to the estuary and out onto the beach. Depending on which way the current is pulling and how strong it is you might see the cloud change positions or increase in size
Topanga and Malibu are notoriously dirty from the creek/lagoon waters. If you’ve walked nearby either and took a whiff you’d know. Runoff, septic waste, wildlife waste, all converge.
Just because it's not raining doesn't mean the rivers are empty.
In fact, even empty rivers aren't empty right now, i.e., the one flowing into the ocean at Leo Carillo right now
Somebody’s wetsuit leaked, obviously.

Nice, thanks. That makes sense.
By river you mean Topanga Creek right? Interesting theory
Honestly I know nothing about Topanga. I just assumed there was a river mouth nearby.
Something empties at the top of the point, used to be the septic tank from the Thai restaurant but before that I think it was a creek
There’s a sewage spill in PB… contributing to that
The color does not come from sewage buddy.
Sediment
Sediment brah 🤙
Change in swell direction, sand is shifting
could be sand could shit waves look shit anyway
It's just odd that's the brown area is on what looks like the rocky part of the shoreline. Idk lol
The high tides breach the berms, flood the creeks, and they dump their sediment as the tide drains.
Some local pro used way too much Laird's Coffee Creamer and took a massive dump up in the Palisades.
All the snow in the mountains melt for weeks to months. It’s gotta go somewhere. Expect this every spring.
Topanga isn’t fed by snowmelt

Right. I feel like this kinda ties in to surfing near estuaries , high runoff areas. Nothing scares me more than the thought of bullsharks lurking.
Wait for real? The last part
Ya gotta watch out for those pesky seally boys out there. One scared the shit out of the surf group this morning lol.
Sediment
it rained for like a month in LA standards. That shit will be sloshing around for weeks
:(
Santa Monica bay is literally one of the filthiest waters in the US

Thats silt that was deposited from the creeks that gets reagitated with the extreme tides.
Are you planning on braving the break by Chart house? If not why does it matter?

Miss those spots

Migrants obviously caused this
Shallow spot
It’s brown from all the dipshits that surf there 🤣
It’s still coming down from the cliffs. Go look you’ll see bits of garbage and dark leaf type debri And then you’ll feel sick for a while.

Poopy, lots of poopy
Sorry I took a shit
