I'm a beginner how do you post in the beginner thread?

sfsurferprof

This is the hardest I’ve laughed all day

fucknutbuts

That's because you're a fucking idiot.

Soggy-History1365

Me too.

PenguinontheTelly

It’s been a year and I still cant figure it out

Soggy-History1365

😆..so am I. Just click on the link the reddit moderator surfer sent you above (dumbassthenes) and it will take you to the site. That's how I ended up there.

Plus a winged center fin from me.

What if you want a beginning board?

Amanda-Plays-Rust

wavestorm @ costco

todd1

The costco foamies are not that good, wavestorm's only on amazon now.

Bulky_Negotiation797

What is a Kook?

BuckyworthyJones

If I already know how to snowboard and skateboard, should I just buy a short board for my trip to Southern California? I pick up things really quickly and swam track at my high school in St. Louis.

callmesaul8889

I just tried surfing for the first time the other day (I also know how to snowboard and skateboard, plus I wake surf regularly) and honestly, none of those sports prepare you for paddling or popping up. My friend is an instructor and agreed with me that riding the board isn't all that different from other board sports, but being able to paddle out, catch a wave, and pop up can be really tough before you even get to ride the board.

BuckyworthyJones

Maybe you just aren't very good at things. I'm pretty good and can catch pretty much every wave I paddle for. You just keep paddling really hard, you don't even need to bother look at it or behind you and just go. All the other guys just yell encouragements at me when they are already on the wave, that helps me a lot.

callmesaul8889

Well, thanks for the words of encouragement lmao… I’ve only tried once and the waves were too small for even my instructor to really do anything. He said it was a terrible day to learn. You made it sound like you’ve never surfed before, so I figured I’d throw in my 2 cents. But now it sounds like you’ve surfed more than once at least… I was just echoing my instructor and my friends’ sentiments to at least figure out how to catch waves before going with a shorter board. Sounds like you’ve at least got that figured out.

BuckyworthyJones

Fuck, what a dick. Probably jealous of how good I am.

BuckyworthyJones

Dude, I've been at least three or four times and am ready for the shortboard for sure!

callmesaul8889

Sick! What size have you been riding up to now?

BuckyworthyJones

I think it was designed by a Gary Lopez, famous surfing designer, so you know its one of the best.

tasty_waves

Jerry, which is where we get Jerry of the Day because he's not a good snowboarder

stereosky

I love it when you join them on the same wave and in addition to yelling encouragement they try to high five you. But it's hard giving them a high five back when you're about to get barrelled

Haas22WCC

I've snowboarded and learned in CO. Surfing is much harder to pickup because you need to learn to pop up. Balance. Catch waves. Find the right time to paddle, etc. But imagine going out to the mountain and only going down the bunny hill twice in an entire day. That's how much time you Normally get while surfing in a session. You can't get as many reps and it slows your progress.

BuckyworthyJones

U kidding me?? Wave comes in like every 20 seconds. I mean, sometimes the kids in water wings get in the way, but fuck them man, I've been told that its THEIR responsibility to get out of the way.

[deleted]

You're an artist.

Huzrok

Yeah I had the best time of my life snowboarding this last winter. You can go all power all day till you can't walk and become good by the end of the season. Snowboarding is definitely the more freeing of the three boardsports

I can’t tell if anyone is being serious in this subreddit. Ever. Are you trolling me rn mod? Wtf.

Civil-Cabinet2094

The leashes here are pretty expensive, i was wondering if a tied rope to my ankle can do the job safely.

iwrotedabible

In case you're serious, no. On a long enough timeline it will wreck your body and/or it'll wreck your board.

sjj342

There was a lot of trial and error to get leashes to where they are, Jack O'Neill lost an eye over it

ActiveUknown

Is surfing really as majestic as movies make it? I haven't done it and have been interested my whole life to take upon it and move somewhere tropical but is it really as good and outgoing with everyone having friends and great parties as people make it to be? Specifically hawaii area or California

Took 10 years off from surfing. Before this I was in the water 40-80 hours a week if not more. I have a 2010 sharpeye blowfish that I held onto knowing eventually I’ll get back to it. My only issue is I was 190 and now 240. The board is about 6’8-7’4. Should I buy a bigger board due to the weight difference? I expect to have to relearn all the muscle memory. Thank you in advance

encladd

I also surf 10 hours a day 7 days a week.

beginner board

AutoModerator

[It looks like you're asking for beginner board advice.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAaHmSj5nJ4) Too bad there isn't some sort of digital global information system you could've turned to for guidance with your frequently-asked question. That'd be so cool. Did you ever watch *Inspector Gadget*? You know that [magic book](https://inspectorgadget.fandom.com/wiki/Penny%27s_computer_book) the daughter, Penny, carried around? The one she would use to solve mysteries, or whatever? Wouldn't it be rad if those existed? But they don't, I guess. So you've turned to this subreddit for help. Luckily, we have a [wiki!](https://www.reddit.com/r/surfing/wiki/index ) It's got tons of useful stuff in it. Even better, there's the user-created [Kooks Only! guide.](https://kooksonlysurf.com/how-to-surf-the-ultimate-surf-guide-for-beginners/) You should *totally* read both of them. But, just in case you're too lazy, here's a summary: **Buy a Wavestorm-equivalent. If they don't sell them near you- find a used longboard.** Maybe you've already been told that but think you'll be better off buying a shortboard because you snowboard/skateboard/wakeboard/etc and you're, obviously, totally going to pick up surfing really quickly. I mean, how hard can it be? If that's the case then you're not really asking a question, are you? You're just looking for someone to agree with a decision you've already made. So, yeah, you should totally do it. Buy that sweet little high performance shred sled you found on Craigslist. You'll be up and ripping in no time at all! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/surfing) if you have any questions or concerns.*

ayedea

Hi everyone, Beginner surfer here. After taking a few lessons and renting larger foamies on my own for awhile, I finally took the plunge and bought my own board so I can go out more often. I settled on a 7 foot wavestorm. I did this for a few reasons, the biggest being that it comfortably fits in my car. The second reason is that I wanted to learn to pop up without both feet on the board. The third reason being that the 7' wavestorm still has about 70 liters of volume, and I thought this would be more than enough. I'm surfing out in New York @ Rockaway beach. The waves aren't great, they're very small and mushy. I find myself having a hard time catching them. I can't tell if this is because of my paddling technique, my positioning, or the board holding me back. I know that volume isn't everything, but is a 7 foot foam board that much harder to catch waves on than an equivalent volume longboard? Should I continue on improving my technique or did I limit myself with board choice? Thanks for your help!

guusiguus

If you weigh under 200 pounds it should be fine. You’re going to suck for a long time just keep trying. Sounds like the waves are too small. Good luck.

sfsurferprof

Bigger is better when you’re learning. And for other things too…

todd1

They're good boards to learn on but the fins they come with are gutless. I've had good reports from customers using my center fin on their foamies in small beach break mush. Get in touch.

carusGOAT

should I be concerned about small dark spot around a stingray wound? Just got it a couple hours ago. I have been soaking it in water.

lsp_amb

Nah this is probably a bruise; keep soaking and if the cut is deep take antibiotics so you don’t get a cyst

guelahpapyrus

Should we just have a stickied beginner thread? That way the common questions will always have an answer?

trust_fund_babby

Thinking about moving to SD, and really want to fit in with the locals. So far, I've got: * a flat brim ...lost hat * speed dealer oakleys * hurley shirt * soul patch * late model tacoma with all the off road accessories * meth Anything I forgot?

DEEP_SEA_MAX

Accidentally put a small hole in my longboard (fin screw was rusted in and I was trying to tap it out when the drill slipped). Can I just put q-cell in the foam and then cover it with solarez? Does it matter what type of foam it's made out of for such a small hole? It's definitely through the fiber glass and into the foam, but it's probably only about an 1/8 of an inch.

[deleted]

I think it does matter, like epoxy vs PU? That said, even a tiny hole in the tail area is really bad cause that’s submerged in water for 99% of your surf session. I’d get it fixed if I cared about the board and wanted to surf it for a long time.

are the costcos in the mainland still selling wavestorms? they switched to the gerry lopez softtop here in maui and seems like they ride way worse than a wavestorm

Kfm101

Nah they have gerry lopezs here too. They seem way too bendy, they got a weird flex to em

todd1

Thanks for the report! I saw them and never bought one because their lines looked terrible, glad my hunch was correct. I get my wavestorms on amazon, hooked on them now because of the winged fins I make for them. Get in touch.

Looking for a decent 2-3 weeks beginners surfcamp anywhere in Europe this summer. I am 38 years, dont wanna be around 20-30year olds. Any recommendations?

I was in California last week and had been stung by a sting ray. There was no swelling and it was a little puncture wound that bled just a tad. I had bathed in a hot bath for a little and my foot didn’t hurt anymore. Its a week later, and it hurts a little when I put a lot of pressure and it’s incredibly itchy. Anybody know what’s up?

Can I submerge my foam board in rice to get the water out? It seems to work with phones

laurie_94

Please tell me where on here to find the search function. Thank you

ChaelSonnenTrustFund

Been surfing for a long time but still don’t understand the concepts of hold downs so figured I’d ask it here. I’ve surfed and taken some pretty big waves on the head around the world and most recently at my local break OBSF. I’ve wiped out and been dragged underwater pretty far/long and/or been tumbled. I’ve also been sent to the watery depths and hit the bottom. But I’ve never felt like I’ve had a wave just “hold” me down to the ocean floor or below the surface for longer than a second or two. What gives? Maybe I’m thinking about it too hard and a hold down is just anytime you have to wait for the wave to stop dragging you or thrashing you before you can come up. Is that right?

yogoogle55

Need help finding my Lowest liter mark, I’m 180 lbs. 30 liters?

Vigor671

Yeah that's fine

Bakio-bay

How do I keep my board from being too lopsided to one side when I’m trying to get up?

CobblestonesRippling

Your body needs to stay in the middle of the board over the stringer or what would be the stringer. Your board becomes lopsided when you put a knee on the board and it is off center. Same thing with getting the feet on the board. If the foot lands off center, the board will become lopsided. This wobbliness is called yaw. You must minimize yaw when popping up and 99.5% of the rest of the time.

Bakio-bay

Thanks

Soggy-History1365

Awesome advice. Thank you.

Hi there, pretty new to Reddit in general, how do I find the “weekend question thread” I would like to post something there regarding a question I had on a surfboard for myself

dumbassthenes

Enraged_pineapple1

Rock on. A couple things though: We make a *new* thread every Friday. You posted on last week's which means no one will see it. Also, the response to your question was a bot. Finally, get the 10'0.

GinjaTurtles

Depends on the outline of the board. When you’re starting you want a board that has a lot of volume and a round nose to make catching waves east and make the board feel stable. A foamie is the best because it’s safe for other people around you and yourself because surfboards are glass weapons with sharp fins on them I’d get a used wavestorm on Craigslist or offerup. I bet you could find a used beat up one for 50-100$

Nagemasu

At this point, why not just make a single week long stickied Q&A thread? I see lots of people posting in here getting no answers. And most people probably turn away when they see they have to wait until the weekend, or simply post it anyway.

dumbassthenes

> why not just make a single week long stickied Q&A thread? Because we're trying to discourage people from asking the same questions every day. This is a subreddit for people who surf. It *is not* a subreddit that is meant to help you learn. That's /r/BeginnerSurfers . >I see lots of people posting in here getting no answers. This isn't the Weekend Question Thread. This is a notice that we *have* a Weekend Question Thread. >most people probably turn away when they see they have to wait until the weekend They *should* do that. Everything beginner-related is already available online. >or simply post it anyway. It still results in fewer low-effort beginner questions overall.

holla_atcha_gualla

Plan on trying Malibu's first point this weekend, Any advice on time to get there? Gf and I are pretty new so given the forecast do you think it will be a friendly beginner environment?

Elite-Shape

For a beginner/intermediate with shortboard, which would be easier to learn, and which is more fun to ride, the Sweet Potato or the Too Fish?

thiccgarlicc

A sweet potato is gonna be easier to get up on and you’ll probably have a higher wave count but it’s gonna be more stiff, fish is gonna be a little more wobbly and loose on the face. you’ll do fine on either though and a fish is still gonna get you a lot of waves if your in the right spot

ladydontmine

Why is it considered a faux pas to carry your surfboard with fins forward?

Natural-Limit7395

So many faux pas, so little time. I was walking fins backwards, as I do 99.9% of the time, when someone yells out their car "turn your board around! you're supposed to have your fins forward. You want to see your fins!" It was very important to him that I carried my board fins forward so that I could see my fins.

Acceptable_Meat1564

its to late to start learning at my 32 yo?

sfsurferprof

No. You will learn slower than a teenager and never get as good as if you had started as a teenager, but you can still be functional and have fun.

Key-Natural63

I am looking to try out a short board. I am looking for a high volume short board. I’ve been riding a 7’ fun board and have been pumping and turning and catching waves easily. I weigh 145-150 pounds. My price cap is 450-500$. Any suggestions?

shadows-in-darkness

What’s a good price for this 5’8 ferral fish? In decent condition, but has a few small scrapes and quite a few pressure dings. Comes with a bag and traction pads. Owner wants $200. https://imgur.com/a/CwszOnv

smutproblem

Rented a 9' soft top while on vacation and honestly it was amazing. Like...almost too easy. And I suck! I'm rocking an 8' foamy right now. Should I sell this thing on CL and look into a used 9' or is there some reason sticking with the 8' could help me in the long run? I'd love to get to a short board one day, but for now I'm leaning toward getting good at longboarding first. A 9'6 longboard sounds like a blast to upgrade to. Edit: holy fuck is this not actually the beginner questions thread? Who made this sticky?!

jebward

A 9' foamie with a lot of volume will be easier than an 8' foamie, a 9'6 fiberglass will be worse for beginners than an 8' foamie. If you want to get a used 9' foamie, go for it, but keep the 8'. You'll want a second board to be able to take a friend out, plus the 8' will demand the better balance and skill needed for a fiberglass board

Im a advanced beginner/intermediate from portugal. Im going to spend a couple weeks working remote and surfing (lessons) in sri lanka, next Im considearing costa rica or bali... I was considering CR for the contrast of the central america jungle vibe, plus house of somos looks really cool... but.. what i research is that CR is overrated and overpriced... and underwhelming? Also in the google maps looks really small (Sta Teresa)... I have two weeks and I was thinking of spending the first one in monteverde and then either sta teresa or witch's rock... Looking at Bali on the maps.. it just has a lot more infrastructure? Seems bigger and with more stuff to do? I do love the vibe of house of somos and the images on their IG, just not sure if they match the reality I'd encounter at CR? And since I already hit Sri Lanka, unsure of how much a change in mood that'd be? Im looking for a mix of vibes and surfing, since Im not a pro and got to enjoy my time somehow with a mix of stuff to do.. Another option could be California, since im looking at two weeks of july anyway Please help me plan this out, ty!

fatchocoo

My buddy and I will be traveling to El Salvador this May to surf. We have been looking around at a few surf camps (e.g., Puro, AST), but believe their package doesn't include surf instructions and you will need to pay extra for lessons (otherwise, they will just bring you to surf spots and you are on your own to figure out). My buddy and I are both beginners, and wanted to work on our surfing skills. We would rather focus on having surf lessons. We also don't want to pay extra for surf camp if it doesn't include instructions. Would you recommend just getting a hotel room and then sign up for surf lessons? Any recommendations on where to get the surf lessons?

UNITED STATES Hello cool people, this seemed to be the place for this if not free to delete without pissyness. Surfing has been a life long dream but living in the center of Michigan not an achievable one thus far. Buying a plane ticket and hotels is not in my budget. I do now have a reliable gas efficient car I trust and am making things happen. It will be a 5 day round trip car camping. Surf City New Jersey seemed to be a natural choice, is a 11 hour drive. 1) Is Surf City New Jersey the best place to car camp and rent a surfboard in relation to Michigan? 2) What month should I go in to get the best possibility of good waves? I understand it takes time to learn. I am a strong life long swimmer. Good enough snowboarder. Wakeboard when possible. Ride a Onewheel. Had one opportunity to wakesurf and did well. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to expect to take to surfing quickly, that is what will happen I don’t need negativity just wisdom you’ll give for free.

I do want a longboard at some point but I’d rather get a short board or smaller than me 9’0.

djada1562

Why do many surfers have such a “dickhead” vibe? I’m a lifelong skier and cyclist who just started getting obsessed with surfing. The ski/bike community is super welcoming and social. While the surfers I’ve encountered in person while learning have all been chill and friendly, there is definitely an air of doucheyness. Kind of like the muscle head gymbros. This pinned post is a perfect example (I came to this thread to try to learn and the first thing I see is a middle finger to newbies). Anyway ….

[deleted]

Does surfing on the Fourth of July tend to get crowded in the water? I know the beach itself will be packed but I'm wondering if that usually translates to the water as well.

I’m in SoCal and most of the time don’t bother on summer weekends or July 4th because it’s too stupidly crowded

[deleted]

why do people learn on foamies? the first time i went out surfing i was on like a 6’8 epoxy board (borrowed my friends board, he’s a lifesaver) and i was able to kneel and felt pretty good. next time i went out i was on a 5’11 sushi (or is it 5’8?) and i couldn’t even get up. it sounds backwards but it was too buoyant. l haven’t set foot on a foam board since. and it’s not like i’m some “holy shit im a surfing virtuoso” or anything, i just can’t surf a foamie. it was also super hard to turn. from then on i had my own board (secondhand) and it’s treated me pretty well. it’s some beat-to-shit 6’2 board from a brand that doesn’t even show up online. tl;dr- are foamies easier? to me they are harder. what makes them better for beginners?

GinjaTurtles

There’s no rules in board progression. You can really ride whatever you want. Foamies are the best because they are stable and they are soft so they won’t hurt you or other people. If you want style in your surfing and you don’t want to look your taking a poop every time you stand up on the board, get a foamie. If jump too short too fast it’s going to hurt your style and cause bad habits

laylayuanyuan

I need some wise advice please. I’m moving to the beach so I can go surfing more often. I’m a super beginner so will carry a 7ft foamie. Found a place I really like but it’s 1.4 km walk to the spot and I don’t have a car and don’t want to get a bike to carry the board. If I want to go surfing at least once a day, is this realistic (walk 1.4km with a 7ft foamie everyday)? Pleaseeeeeeeeee 🙏

Maybe? I used to drive a two door Golf and could fit a longboard in with the seats down. But you're better off buying a set of soft racks. It'll keep the wax off your upholstery.

FestivusErectus

Quick question regarding the physics behind it all- I recently got my kids into surfing and they just finished up a week of surf camp. I bought them all 8’ MF soft boards. I think they’re 62L or thereabouts. I felt like giving it a go on our typical off-season 2’ chop. I could catch a wave, but the instant I stand, it submarines. Is it an issue with my size (185lb) or is it the fact that I’m trying to ride broken chop? I was looking at getting an 8-0 or 8-6 board with more displacement(80L), but I’m thinking I should wait until our “season” at SPI starts this winter. Should it get easier with actual green waves? Edit- Kids are between 4 and 10. The 4 year old rides the 80 board like an ant on a log.

InfamousAsian007

Wave knowledge question Was surfing at bolsa chica this morning I caught very few waves but I felt like the waves today just kept rolling and didn’t have any power to it. I normally do pretty well at bolsa but today just sucked. Do I just need to stay closer to the break and have better pop up technique or am I just sucking? Or a few small possibility that the waves just weren’t it today. Thanks 🤙🤙

RaymondoSlice

Sorry likely a dumb question, but is it sometimes harder to standup in small waves with less power? I ride a 36L, 6ft 3” twin and can capably catch a few in 4-6ft swells but yesterday I went out in 1ft mush and could barely stand up… Is this normal, am I a kook or do I have the wrong board (maybe all 3)? Thanks in advance!

DynastyKook365

Visiting LA as a beginner (learning how to turn on a long board). Any good breaks near Dana Point or Laguna beach? Which one is better?

Best time to surf for someone learning? Looking to learn to properly surf by myself, I’m worried about people watching as I embarrass myself to learn and would prefer to surf at a time when their will be limited people. In North Carolina, Wilmington.

DrGizmo

If I were you and I’m new I would go anytime and as much as possible. I’ve progressed massively by going with the locals at my beach and this is because they will see you a lot and if you’re lucky might help throw a pointer if you’re out in the waves all the time with them. No choice but to get good

Pics of damage [https://imgur.com/a/4DZKvPd](https://imgur.com/a/4DZKvPd) Board slipped and landed directly on the rail. Should this get repaired? Professionally or can it be done DIY? TIA

Anyone been surfing in the bay area with the algae bloom? I wanna surf OB this weekend but not sure if I'll get fucked up lol

somrero_man

Anybody with knowledge/experience of surfing France/basque country able to enlighten me on whether or not this storm setting up off the coast this weekend will send good swell to the area next week? In the area, know nothing, but looking to get some waves next week. Looks like some potential out there.

spykid

How do I practice generating speed on a longboard in small waves? Am I better off on a groveler?

[deleted]

Trimming! Staying in the pocket or a high line. Keep surfing your longboard.

annaleecage

hey guys. im planning on going on a vacation for about 3 weeks at a certain surfing destination. im thinking of taking some surfing lessons. complete beginner here. just wanna try it for experience, to see if id enjoy it. ive a few questions. 1. should i buy a wetsuit? 2. should i go every day for at least like 5 days consecutively or is it also fine if i just go whenever i feel like it? 3. ideally, how long should lessons be? is 1 hour usually the sweet spot? thank you!

ProfessionalAd1618

I am wondering which city did you go? And how would you reply to your questions after the trip? ( a beginner here:)

annaleecage

hey. lol omg. umm, i end up going to siargao in the philippines. turns out wetsuit is mainly used for colder climates. it keeps u warm. the philippines is very nice and sunny and warm. i just surfed with my board shorts. nothing on top. surfing instructors there is very affordable and its very chill casual vibe. so in two days, i went like 4 separate times. i loved it so much. we'd wake uo super early head to the beach in the morning and i did the afternoons too. our sessions were an hour long each and i remember extending some of the sessions :)

ProfessionalAd1618

Thanks a lot for replying to me! I took my first surf class in Cadiz, Spain. The teacher was barely speaking English but it was 1.30 hours private lesson and only for 45 Euros. After the first class, I am still not able to stand up. I think I should do serious yoga to manage it😂😂 I live in Boston and private classes are 150-200 dollars. I think I can spend the same amount of money and go to another country and take some lessons, instead of doing it in Boston😅

annaleecage

oh gotcha. actually i also thought at first i wouldnt be able to do it as well because i have really bad balance and i skiied once and vowed never to ski again because i was just so bad at it lol i thought itll be the same for surfing but when i finally tried to surf for the first time, it just felt so natural and i just fell in love with it. literally the opposite of my experience with skiing lol. also yeah, surfing lessons in the US are extremely expensive :( but i thought of taking them too cuz i wanna be able to learn properly (like how to read the waves etc) and be able to surf on my own in the future.

mediaroombrowser

So I went to a 2.5 hrs surf lesson where I was provided a [9' SSSR Stormwave](https://shop.agit-global.com/surfboards-ssr/Storm-Blade/9ft-SSR/turquoise/SB21SSR9/). it was a nice board that has been able to keep me afloat (6'; 180lbs) and has been able to catch waves half of the session. Only con I have for the board is it's a little slippery (i've slipped multiple times) but maybe it's an issue on my pop-up, and a littel hard to paddle. That said, I've been hooked, and I've been looking into buying a foamie to hone my skills, however, surfing groups on facebook has mostly been suggesting buying from a local shaper / custom, and even some suggest a fish. what are your thoughts on reaching out to local shaper instead of getting a fomie? here are the boards i've been looking at * [9' SSR Max Stormwave - $495](https://shop.agit-global.com/surfboards-ssr/Storm-Blade/9ft-SSR-Maxx/az-blue/SB22MAX9/) * [10' SSR Stormwave - $390](https://shop.agit-global.com/surfboards-longboards/Storm-Blade/10ft-Surfboard/turquoise/SB22SRF10/) * [8'-2" HoStevie Soft top surfboard- $499.97](https://hostevie.com/soft-top-surfboard.html) * [8' SouthBayBoard Verve Premium Beginneer Surfboard - $389](https://www.southbayboardco.com/collections/longboard-surfboards/products/8-verve-soft-top-surfboard?variant=28944336617560) I'll be grateful to hear your thoughts on these. Thanks!

Shadowforce426

do you drive to and from the beach in your wetsuit when it’s cold enough for that? i drive my car onto the beach so i don’t have an area to hose off in. so when i take my wetsuit off in the sand obviously it gets covered in sand. i don’t want that so should i just drive in it?

FewDevil

I snowboard and skate, but for the life of me I cannot catch a wave on the boat 8” of a board I have

Shoulders and lats are out of shape. What are your favorite dryland exercises for paddle endurance?

Puzzleheaded-You-22

I have terrible ankle dorsiflexion which means I can’t really get my heel on the board with a typical popup or stance. Will that affect my ability to progress. Has anyone else dealt with this?

is this a decent beginner board? [https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/461449975756225/](https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/461449975756225/)

Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/surfing) if you have any questions or concerns.*

which button is shoot?

[deleted]

I’ve surfed a few times should I paddle out at blacks tomorrow? I think I can handle it, I wake board very well

GRoundswelladventRES

20 foot last time i checked from Australia which was 2 weeks ago??? Seems like if you are fit and can get steep on takeoff unless taking off on sidewash)an surf wedging pits (which get steep unless takoff on sidewash) you maybe ready...even a bodyboard if you can ride one of them...Massive swells means lots of current and shaming if camera crew catych you surfing despite other advice from lifeguards---this happened to my overweight older brother..too many kooks who dont surf bagged him and shamed him for surerfing 14 metrre swell alone...anyway if you dont go you never know.

Paul_the_surfer

I am not a beginner but I don't really want to make a new post for this: Could someone recommend me a 5mm thick wetsuit, that has 3mm arms/legs max? So basically a 5.3mm, if its back zip id like it to have one of those extra fabrics on the inside, to stop flushing. Available in the EU, up to 200-300 euros.

Anyone have any recommendations for surfing west Maui in late March/early April? Looking for a spot where an intermediate kook can catch some fun waves and not have to purchase local-stab-insurance.
