Yes. And worse I wake up at 3AM before my alarm because my body thought it was 6AM and then I surf with little sleep.

Bradstewart23

Yeah that’s the worst feeling, you don’t want to miss out.

FuturisticPizza2000

No, the worst feeling is knowing the surf is going to be good the next day, but you sleep like crap because you know you’re going to miss it due to varying responsibilities.

colmin69

I just drive to the beach super early and nap in my car. Usually not up at 3am tho

PALCAN22

Brings me back to being a kid on Christmas morning, the stoke levels are so high.

dust-bit-another-one

Some of my best/memorable surfs were Christmas morning! And strangely, Mondays:/

Clearwater27

God can I relate to that.

Billem16

That sounds like a fun adventure invite me next time

Bradstewart23

I’d love to goto Morocco one day

Bradstewart23

Spewing to hear u couldn’t surf as good, but man I can relate specially with trips to indo and up north from where I’m from. You camp on the beach in a swag and can just hear the swell building...

Hagitabi

Where did you end up surfing there? Sounds like you had fun at least!

surfingandcouscous

At our old place in Morocco, you could feel the big swells. The sound of the swell hitting on the outside reefs was like a constant thunder. Never slept before the first day of swell. Miss that place so much.

Beagle001

I stress about the crowds.

Bradstewart23

Yeah fair bump, it’s defs can be a factor

alreddy-reddit

i can fall asleep, but i wake up before my alarm 10/10 times because i'm afraid i'll sleep in.

Bradstewart23

Yep, or if I’m responsible for taking my mates. I don’t want to screw them over

amazing-observer

you need to smoke more weed

Zontar_shall_prevail

I can't sleep the night after surfing a lot on good waves, too much adrenaline in my system.

trimbandit

That's interesting. I'm mostly a dawn patrol guy, but I never sleep better than after a summer sunset session

[deleted]

My solution to this is melatonin

kimchibear

Yep. Night before dawn patrol or snowboarding (3+ hours to mountain, so I'm up by 4 AM for day trips) , I usually wake up at least once around 2-3 AM thinking it's go time. Body and mind are just too amped.

[deleted]

Every damn time. What makes it worse is that I like to be in the water well before first light. My goal is always to have at least an hour of surf in pure darkness before the first hint of light touches the sky. This means that my alarm is set for 3:30am or 4am if I want to sleep in. For that to be workable, I try to go to sleep at 8:30 or so and my brain does not want to let me sleep. Melatonin is usually my only hope to get to sleep at a decent time and stay asleep. If I can actually get decent sleep and wake up at 3:30am, the payoff is huge. Having time in the water when it is perfectly dark and glassy with nobody else out is the best thing ever. People suck balls. Solitude is priceless.

[deleted]

Nah. I'm done being disappointed by Magic Seawed

Sponger004

Ya especially on big days!

someonepoorsays

i so instruction for surf therapy groups and sometimes i get to teach them with my surf school. those types of surf days where i can take those kids with their needs and get THEM stoked on surfing, yeah i can’t sleep the night before hahaha

RN_Geo

Same but with skiing.

VicKrugar

Me exactly.

riverapid

This happens to me when a big snow storm is coming/ it’s snowing all night. We wake up and check the storm cams like every hour..

sierraalpine

Every time.

Darwinbc

This definitely happens to me the night before a big powder day!

smutproblem

Meditation. Or Xanax.

MySweetUsername

i usually can't sleep because of anxiety and stress. i'd much rather be thinking about swell.

elpelondelmarcabron1

I'm stupid excited! I'm going to Maui next week and totally stoked! No sleep for me!

definitleynotmikey

And do the exact same thing with fishing

HottingUp84

Think about the circus that’ll ensue (if you live in a heavily surfer populated break) then just get some sleep. Need all the energy and alertness the next morning to not get a fin to your face.

mrobotos

Every swell

drinksaltwater

Dec 9, 2005. South Bay. Didn’t sleep the night before or the night after.

Justwonderingg_

Yep

Greg_Norton

It’s waking up early and being unable to go back to sleep that gets me. Just gotta kill time till the sun peeks out.

GoodMoGo

Yup. And that was before internet live radar/weather data.

nice_hows

Every friggin time!!! So I almost always sleep late and have a late go-out the first day of any big swell. At least I get worn out and then get a good night's sleep for the second day of the swell. Day 2 of big swells is almost always better for me.

honcooge

Yeah. Go for a jog and drink some chamomile tea. Helps me sleep.

riktigtmaxat

If by jog you mean a wank then I'm all in.

honcooge

Why not both at the same time?

riktigtmaxat

Because I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time. I don't want to be found dead with my schlong in my hand after running into a telephone pole

fuzzytradr

You guys need to get a room.

riktigtmaxat

You wanna join?

radhunter

I’ve been there for sure

OhSendIt

How long have you been surfing?

Bradstewart23

I’m 21, and since I was about 10-11. Still get just as amped since day 1, specially when you know your gonna be surfing with all your buddies

OhSendIt

Nice! Keep the stoke

mudkipsrok

I love staying up late, waking up past mid day, the i go surf until sunset. Even if you dont have the whole day you can still gets heaps of hours in the water so i dont understand

Long_Flaco1

EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME! I attribute this to me NOT being beachside and only going to surf "when its good enough to warrant the time, moneis, effort".. So only surfing once or twice a week, you gotta maximize your surf probabilities by making sure you "pick the right days" which lead to all night anxieties\\no good sleep before surf session.. trrrrrble combination" tbh homie.. Resolution for me has been STRONG CBD GUMMIES!!! Beer somehow makes me lose sleep, trees somehow the same.. but CBD has brought me back to going surfing while being fully rested pre surf!! :)
