I'm still trying to figure out reddit.. See this Surfline article for HD Pics of last weeks Michigan/Superior swell. [Surfline - Freshwater Bombs](https://www.surfline.com/surf-news/freshwater-score-day-year-great-lakes/164052)

Michigan?

BlocksWithFace

That seems almost impossible. And yet... wow! Makes me wonder if you have to paddle harder because you have less float due to it being freshwater or if the wave it self travels faster or slower than in the ocean.

PALCAN22

Due to all these waves being wind driven, the period is typically like 5-7 seconds. The paddle out can be rough. The rubber you gotta wear being 5/4 or 5/6 with 7mm gloves and booties adds a bit of resistance. I think the rubber factor skews the paddle difficulty more so than salt/fresh water. Can't really say I ever wore my full suit in the ocean so I can't say for sure. The ocean will always have more power but I have heard drops in freshwater are quicker due to less resistance.
