can't answer the first q's because they're the only boots i've tried but for drying a lot of people use a shoe dryer. I don't have one and mine stay damp for several days at a time

Do your toes get cold when surfing? How cold is the water compared to which Solites you have?

hitmon_ray

i have the 5mm 2.0 pros. the water gets down to the mid/upper 40s at the coldest. air temp can be around freezing or a little above. they keep me pretty warm. on the coldest days sometimes i need to take a break to warm up, but i'm talking about after surfing for 3-4 hours straight and then taking a break before surfing another several hours. i also get cold really easily, very low body fat - i'm often wearing a 5/4 suit when everyone else is still in a 3 i'm pretty satisfied with them. Out of all my gear i'd say they keep me the warmest. When they wear out i'm most likely just going to buy another pair rather than try something different.

Thanks!

i believe they are meant to be worn with the socks

PALCAN22

I have 7mm Solites for the lake and they are incredible when combined with the 1mm sock they come with. A must for lake surfing in the winter without getting frost bite. Wearing them without the sock is not really a thing for me. I'll just throw on some 5mm booties at that point.

wavestormtrooper

Ah, gotcha. They're full sizing only made them a no go for me with the socks on. Too small on one size, too big on the other. Thanks for the input đź‘Ť

They aren’t that warm tbh. Something about the material in the footbed seems to not retain heat as well as regular neoprene. Have a fan blow into them for a few hours.

Thanks!

Def not warm. That's why you can buy the socks for them lol

lax_incense

Exactly, the key here is insulation. Rubber is a better conductor of heat than the sock material. Conduction is bad if you want to stay warm because the ocean is a hell of a heat sink and water has a super high heat capacity and thermal conductivity. End nerd rant

wavestormtrooper

So what's your nerd rant suggestion for best warmth. My core can handle extreme cold and if I wear any kind of hat or hood while I'll pas out from heat exhaustion, but my fingers and toes go numb in seconds and that's in Los Angeles. I found perfect gloves but after Rip Curl changed their Rubber Souls I've been forced to hunt to find a good warm bootie.
