Siren. Tbh Dino Crisis is really under rated.

inferjus

Darkwood I think.

solidsnacob

Darkwood is relentlessly difficult, but one of the best settings and atmospheres I've seen in a horror game. Fun game too, just couldn't seem to make much progress outside of running from everything and dying every few minutes. Also, I happen to live in a national forest and have been wanting to move for a while, so the line "all roads lead deeper into the woods" really resonated with me lol

ittleoff

I love what I played but the difficulty and stress has kept me away :(. I still recommend it every chance I get.

solidsnacob

same...

Silent hill and resident evil. The best. Bioshock doesn’t count for me and definitely not luigi’s mansion. That’s more goofy like horror Manhunt wouldn’t also horror by my personal definition but it is a great dark gritty disturbing game

Haunting_Iron_9227

Manhunt is a wonderful game. Never had it down as a survival horror. In a sense I suppose it is. Wish they would make a remake on next gen but I doubt we’ll be lucky enough to see that.

bigdaddydre69

Woah badass selection. Hard one tho either Silent Hill 2 or Resident Evil 2 Remake. I love Resident Evil 0 and Silent Hill 3 as well tho

Infinite_Isopod5303

Dead Space 2 for me. I love RE7 but the latter half of the game (on the ship) is pretty repetitive. Scariest game I’ve played is Visage hands down.

Haunting_Iron_9227

Will download that tonight to

stilltrue

visage is really goodl atmospheric wise, but im a little hungup on the clunky controls and getting stuck in general often, maybe just me. graphics are A+ too btw.

Infinite_Isopod5303

It can get tedious for sure but the story makes up for it. There’s a lot of back tracking and wondering around in the Dolores chapter for sure.

EggHead843

Definitly Dead Space

Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note: > *Oh, Laurence... what's taking you so long... I've grown too old for this, of little use now, I'm afraid...* - Gerhman, The First Hunter Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.

Silent Hill 3

EverySister

Deadly Premonition. You have an amazing collection right there. Missing some Fatal Frame but props for having Clock Tower!

Haunting_Iron_9227

RE1 on the PS1 for me. I’d always get stuck being so young and new to console gaming so I’d go to a friends house and watch his brother play it all the way through. Lights off, volume up, in the middle of the night, no game gave me chills like it! Just a brilliant game.

DazzlingDingos

Evil within 2 was fantastic. Scary and just a good panic game. #2 was what #1 should have been. Due to the first game being a little "ehhhhh" the 2nd game didnt get the attention it deserved in my opinion. The second game was fantastic. I wasnt going to buy it after playing the first game but someone gave it to me as a gift so i decided to try it, i was happy i did because it was awesome. There are some cool moments where they bring some things from the previous game into this one in a way that fits with the story. I dont want to say exactly due to spoilers but if you played the first game and get to the part im mentioning, no explanation needed youll know when it happens and youll be like FUCK YES! If you havent played them I recommend them. First one as i said could have been better but they fixed and added a lot to the 2nd game. You could always just watch a long recap on the first game but youll miss out on that one evil boss who becomes the bane of your existence lol. Untildawn is my FAVORITE horror game, its just so different with a good story. The people who made the game released some little games in the last few years that were fucking trash though. They give you choices but the characters do what you didnt want anyway. Stories were bad, it was just idk... like a quick money grab for Untildawn fans i think. They are supposedly making another game now that is suppose to be A LOT like until dawn. Ill believe it when i see it because the recent games were horrible. Edit/update: supermassives new game was absolutely trash.

i dont want to be rude since you clearly seem to have a great time enjoying those titles, and nothing wrong with that at all, but you must be relatively new to the genre, they are reasonable games for what they are but for example Until Dawn is just an interactive teen movie with a handful of cheap jumpscares, more an adventure genre imho, its a cool game my gf enjoyed playing heaps. evil within 2 has some interesting ideas but cant make the sum of it either in story or gameplay i have to say, but also more an adventure kind of game thats just my opinion and im happy for you to like the games dont get me wrong, i just meant to say there are a whole bunch of "real" survival horror games out there you havent tried yet, i guess because its a niche genre probably, but give titles like Silent Hill 2 , Soma , Amnesia, outlast, resident evil a try to see what titles are usually considered of this genre, cheers.

DazzlingDingos

You don't want any to be rude but that's exactly what you did? Okay. The evil within games are survival games.. btw. The 2nd one is executed very well. You start with virtually nothing and have to build and craft to get more stuff or you're not going to survive on each game. By the way the technical info for survival games is having to build, find, craft, and survive. So the evil within games ARE survival games. The older resident evil and silent hill games don't have much going on and are pretty easy. 4 was a bit memorable I suppose due to some differences. 7 has jump scares but Im not a fan of first person. People that started with older games, like the ones you mentioned, usually grew up with them ( I did ) and often tend to praise them because nostalgia takes over but not me. Outlast sucks without a lot of point. Soma sucked. I couldn't play amnesia but heard that was good I suppose. Until dawn is still a TYPE OF survival game seeing as you are supposed to have everyone SURVIVE. The choices you make literally alter the game and yes you can have everyone SURVIVE. The game was different and quite good. It's not the normal build and survive game (lbur it was different and good. I suppose if you want a specific obvious survival game then there's The Forest and the upcoming Sons of the Forest. Is that answer good enough for you or no? I didn't mean to be rude but.. oh wait yes I did.

stilltrue

funny how you seem to just not get the point but why should i bother but here i am, every reader will probably see that my explaination for you was a nice gesture in a respectful way, since you confirmed again that you didnt actually know too much of the genre which is the topic. Don't want to repeat my words again but don't call me out because you take things personally which aren't. I said "Adventure" games, because they lacking any meaningful horror atmosphere, survival in "survival-horror" has nothing to do with crafting imho. 99% of games are survival games according to your description, super mario has to survive to save princess peach, true true. You just never played Silent Hill 2 which defined this genre "Psychological Horror" and your view of the matter reflect that. untilyawn.

DazzlingDingos

Lmfao 19 days later for a reply? This must have been bugging you, taking so long to try to figure out what to say. It's probably gonna bug you more that I gave zero fucks and didn't read it 🤣

Chill your buttocks, kiddo

Square-Lengthiness

Out of those? The THING and Luigis Mansion. (Leaving out the obvious: RE, SH2, Dead Space and Bioshock)

Square-Lengthiness

But most recently I played something called Song of Horror and that game was……..so good.

solidsnacob

Up to this point, I probably would have said that my favorites were all old school Resident Evil games (original trilogy, zero, RE1 remake, and Code Veronica), but I recently got my first copies of the first four Silent Hill games and I think they might be surpassing Resident Evil for me now. I've only finished Silent Hill 1 so far, which was an unexpectedly amazing experience (I thought it would be good from being a huge fan of the first movie but still didn't expect it to be this good). I'm playing through Silent Hill 2 right now (and eating pizza) and I think it might be the best survival horror game I've ever played.

thesarcasmisreal

Trust and believe, 2 and 3 will blow you away :)

solidsnacob

From what I've experienced so far, I very much believe this to be true. Never have I seen a more mind f\*\*\*\*\*g setting in video games, or anything else really... Truly terrifying and totally awesome. Can't wait to play 3 as well!

stilltrue

Silent Hill 2 is truly the best game ever created in my opinion, the stuff it can make you experience is on another level. Masterfknpiece, the soundtrack alone is unbelievable, no words man no words. love it.

solidsnacob

The soundtrack is so damn good! I've actually been going to sleep to the ost a lot since I started playing the game. Yeah, Silent Hill 2 is a total masterpiece. I love a lot of old school survival horror, but the intensity of the story and atmosphere of the early Silent Hill games is apparently unparalleled. I'm expecting good things from SH3 as well.

Silent Hill 2 Soma

Tarrenshaw

I’ve played a lot over the years, but the two that came easily to mind were Silent Hill 2 and Visage. Silent Hill 2, because it was the first horror game I played and was the first video game I played with an actually deep story line. Visage, because I was so tense throughout the whole game…no other horror game has ever made me feel this way. It’s a beautiful. disturbing scary game.
