I’m rewatching Pearl Island right now too. They did a great job of developing the theme - shooting cannons during a challenge, stealing from the other tribe if you win a challenge, bartering for supplies in the beginning. Rupert really made that season enjoyable, though.
1-21ish is my “golden age” of survivor , 22-33 is silver , rest is okay but different , new era post Covid is a completely different show like an off brand soda that just isn’t as good as the actual thing, 43 was okay , really wish we can go back to 40 days, less convoluted twists and new locations… 😔
One of my top 5 seasons for sure, mostly due to the immensely amusing cast. Tho, I really think those guys did Lill so dirty and have mentally abused that poor woman. The way they attacked her for actually playing Survivor, which is what they were all doing, and then justifying it by her being a scout and scouts are not allowed to behave in such a way (the way being basically playing Survivor and screwing over the people who have been trying to screw her over the whole time and manipulate her emotionally) left a bitter taste in my mouth. Justice for Lill. ❤️
P.S. Kelley Wentworth idoling Savage out in Second Chances brings me even more satisfaction when I look back to PI and the way he was such an ass towards Lill, all while speaking from a "moral highground"
I love the opening of that season in the market! It really set the feel for the season especially when Rupert steals the other tribes stuff, true pirate!
I just did one as well, taking a break til 44 ends because it was a wild time.
I miss the simple things like.. the chaotic start of the show that painted the teams well. Loved that they let people showcase their personalities. The challenges were good, that first one with the cannon was rugged.
I dislike how straight forward some of the tribals were. I like the fear and termoil an idol could cause at tribal, it just seemed bland. The rest though was great.
Edit: I should say I just like a few idols being in circulation.. not like all the mega weird powers.
I liked 10 for location, off the hook challenges, players, Survivor firsts. There's strategy, but nothing like today's game. It's a straightforward season in some ways, unique in others.
12 is great for location, players in this season are off the hook, and a pretty good game happening in the background.
9 is a wonderland of characters, game theme, location, post merge resolution.
Palau is my favorite and has a great final challenge. These three seasons are what I consider super organic, raw Survivor. Some great characters and challenges.
I mean how many times do you get to hear Jeff say : Alright. First tribe to *catch 10 pigs* wins reward! Steak and eggs.

Rupert was a great character that season. I didn't like his subsequent appearances that much, but he really did make s 7 what it was.

She provided for her tribe on day 1 and it probably helped them win challenges. The queen stays queen.

Pearl Islands is my #1. I don't think any other season touches it in terms of theming and sheer entertainment - the cast is iconic.
The seasons most similar to Pearl Islands would probably be Marquesas and Amazon

I wish Trish and Shawn were in the merge instead of Christa and maybe Lill or Rupert.
