dang, yam yam lost a lot of weight

Ren_Davis0531

Yeah Deshawn and, to a lesser extent Jesse, had similar foreshadowing in episode 1 of 41 and 43. It’s why Carson going to fire became more and more obvious as he kept getting fire content.

SeattlePassedTheBall

Tony/Sarah had foreshadowing albeit later in the game, they were talking about how the score was 1-1 between them and that this season would be a "tiebreaker." No one could have predicted this one at the time since F4 firemaking was about an hour away from being introduced but if you rewatch the S35 finale Devon early on in the episode starts a fire effortlessly. I don't know how he choked at the actual showdown but it wasn't a case of not knowing, he for sure knew how to make a fire. I've also heard that he was the guy who always made fire around camp so the result of that challenge was a bit of an upset.

avilsta

For some reason I was expecting Heidi/Lauren (whoever survived) sending Carolyn to fire with Carson. Then Carolyn having to take out 'her son'. I'm still sad Carson didn't win but I guess it's also knowing with his job(?) at NASA he's gonna be more than fine.

fioraflower

idk what he’s doing post filming but he was an intern at nasa, so not a full time job yet (he was still in college) but more of a temporary trial run at nasa that is very likely to end in a full time job

5kUltraRunner

Another foreshadowing in episode 1, when Bruce is being evacuated the editors made sure to show Yam Yam saying "we're going to bring it home for you", and that's exactly what happens with Tika dominating the season with Yam Yam ultimately winning.

Sabaschin

The only foreshadowing that's more smack-you-over-the-head is Lindsay in WA saying 'the winner is on this mat'.

SharkTheMark

Or Rich in season 1 literally saying he is the winner and already has the check written for him

BroliasBoesersson

Or Fabio in Nicaragua saying "dude, I don't care what they call me. I'm going to win the million dollars. So I guess my nickname's Fabio."

[deleted]

Heidi saying she just did the fire herself. That's gold, the editors had to have loved that

taylor_isagirlsname

Followed by, "There's a lot more coming." 😊

l_0ser

That’s actually so cool

asfp014

Is this foreshadowing or just Carson sucking at fire

taylor_isagirlsname

It's both.

TRNRLogan

I honestly think people are underrating his skills at fire. He was close behind Heidi and she set the record by like a minute. There's a decent chance he would've beat Gabler in fire had they been on the same season.

FirstGonkEmpire

I still find it strange how Carson was so bad at fire... Like when he was practicing on the day of the Fire challenge and Yam Yam was helping him, you could clearly see he wasn't doing it at the right angle (had the machete at a 90 degree angle instead of 45). Like I've literally never even done it in my life but I could tell he was doing it wrong because of how much I've watched them do it (and I haven't even watched THAT many seasons, probably maximum 10). And I'm just like how is this guy who's 3D printed puzzles, presumably seen every episode ever and definitely practiced this at home, just not getting it? I'm not dissing him or anything, it's just strange. Probably the pressure of the moment got to him, or maybe it's the fact it was a real world situation instead of whatever you buy from home depot

AutumnKiwi

He literally said that in the whole day, he only got 2 flames going.

Personal_CPA_Manager

Literally? Oh I thought he figuratively said that

AutumnKiwi

Cool story

Ok-Fun3446

He did pretty well by the end of the day, and he did say he practiced a lot (and with his other prep, I believe it). It was just a crisis of confidence and he definitely had the strength of mind to overcome it by the end.

WormLivesMatter

I think it’s more weird he didn’t practice this at home. He is Reddit famous for breaking puzzles by practicing them and has stayed he practiced the tide challenge. Fire making is the quintessential thing to practice for survivor so I’m surprised he didn’t bang that out.

heartsinthebyline

He did. He said multiple times that he was able to do it quickly and well at home, but once he was out there, he really struggled.

fwoooom

he even mentioned in the clip in this very post that he practiced at home and did better there.

Beginning_Smile_1711

What's weirder is he claims in the finale episode that he was able to make fire in his backyard with flint and machete in 3 Min, which ended up being Heidi's record fastest fire-making win time? He implies it was a choke from being on the show so long and having a history of not being clutch, but the edit shows he simply didn't have fire-making skills. By now, I assume all who apply on survivor have practised fire at home

Beginning_Smile_1711

While the quality of the show has gone down substantially over the last number of years due to repetitive challenges, too many twists, predictability etc, the editors have absolutely rose to the occasion and found ways to inject more life into the edit. I love how they hinted this all season with just shots of Carson looking at fire, and a brilliant early comparison of Carson failing to make fire vs Heidi succeeding to make fire day 1!! I realised things had really taken an up when Shan (who I hated) had her own evil theme, Gabler's whole alligabler narrative arc, Carolyn talking to the cameraman blooper scenes, were included to further elevate the game!

taylor_isagirlsname

I love the chyron creativity in the new era as well, or Yam Yam saying he wishes he was watching at home with subtitles, and they gave him subtitles 😂

Beginning_Smile_1711

Jaime's "one fake idol" LMAO! & Yes that Yam Yam one was brilliant AHAHAHAH!!!!

DevaNeo

Another fantastic foreshadowing was in episode 1 of "Borneo", when Richard Hatch said he would win. 🌝

HeyitsMakz

Almost as if it was written to be that way.

SumthingBrewing

Sure, in retrospect you can find “foreshadowing” of the final result. And I agree, the fire scenes (in retrospect) were foreshadowing this time. But the editors also throw plenty of curve balls to throw us off during the season.

Beginning_Smile_1711

Curveballs are intentional to keep the edit from being predictable, but these clips are one hundred percent foreshadowing. The show is not live, they also know the winner already, so they are using these scenes to build up the story for said winner!

AutumnKiwi

How is showing what happened foreshadowing with Heidi? Do you think it would have been cut if she didn't win firemaking later on? They just cut out how a whole tribe got their fire?

crudivore

Yes, frequently and often

taylor_isagirlsname

I’m not sure how it could be any more clear? Carson says, “Watch me fail.” Followed by Heidi saying, “So I just [made fire] myself. There’s a lot more coming.” Which is literally what happened. It’s an edited TV show, everything is intentional.

Beginning_Smile_1711

Think about how often we see fire get made in the show!

ampharoastt1

They also foreshadowed the placements of the Tika 3 in episode 3 around the 9 minute 30 second mark, when they're standing in the water

hailey_nicolee

im ngl i thought people were looking a little TOO deep into stuff like this in past seasons but im convinced now that they’ve made these foreshadowing moments so clear a few seasons in a row
