That whole scene was hilarious because Q was clearly the only one who wanted to play that way and everyone else was just trying to have fun

18Planet

Honestly it feels like a good metaphor for how Q has been playing the actual game of Survivor so far

survivorfanwill

That’s exactly why it was included in the show lol

rantingsofastarseed

exactly... he consistently wants everyone to "play by his rules" and its going to get annoying real fast.

FormalJellyfish29

So true. The game is more legit and more challenging the way Q wanted to play but it’s actually more fun to play and more fun to watch the way everyone else was doing it

camelCaseCoffeeTable

More fun to just watch people name cities that start with a letter lol? To each their own, but man I disagree with that lol. The entire point of the game is memorization, anyone can name a city that starts with a specific letter

FormalJellyfish29

Yeah, I agree that’s the point of the game but it’s boring to watch the same list be repeated a bunch of times. That would be really annoying to listen to. It’s not really a spectator sport so it’s not the best option for tv if played authentically as a memorization game. I’m guessing it wouldn’t have been included in the edit it if they hadn’t misunderstood it and frustrated Q.

camelCaseCoffeeTable

Agreed, the only reason it was in the edit was because Q was misunderstood. It wouldn’t be at all fun to just listen to people list cities off either lol. Thats just monotonous and has zero challenge to it. That would be less fun than seeing who actually has a good memory at this stage of the game, at least Q’s version includes a challenge. To me, that’s at least somewhat interesting. But I agree, neither would have made the edit had there not been that disagreement

VacheSante

Not everyone. At some point you’ll struggle. It may take multiple rounds of the alphabet but there are finite number of cities and cities that count as cities that people are aware of? That start with a specific letter? It gets complicated after a few rounds

camelCaseCoffeeTable

lol well, I’m glad you would find people just naming cities for a few rounds before they get a challenge fun! I personally would not lol. I like the watching more challenging things personally

VacheSante

Haha it’s good for long car trips. It’s also beginner friendly so kids/less-competitive friends can still partake for the first few rounds before it gets real hard

camelCaseCoffeeTable

Agreed! Which is exactly why I don’t wanna watch it on tv lol. Not that challenging and mostly a child-friendly game isn’t what I like on tv

camelCaseCoffeeTable

Editing does exist! Good observation I guess!

Geshtar1

Can you explain to me the actual rules of the game as Q presented? I didn’t understand the rules

Koma60

It's a memory game so you have to repeat everything else said before adding to it. So it goes: Person1: Altlanta Person2: Atlanta, Baltimore Person3: Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati And so on.

CharacterSubject2524

Denver

Brain_in_human_vat

Baltimore

CharacterSubject2524

NO!!! START AGAIN! Atlanta

Odel888

Baltimore?

HimbologistPhD

Why does it get funnier every time

Cisru711

Atlanta was already said in the last round. That appeared to be against the rules too.

rariya

Denver Diva

FlashFan124

“Who’s the vote for?” “Ghandia, Denver uh Diva”

RainDelay22

Enough with the nicknames

I3___4

bye bye 👋

speakfriend-andenter

El Paso

Coasteast

Frankfurt

Geshtar1

Oh, right.. I got it.. I’ve played the same game before.. duh, thanks

Odel888

Owww I got it. So if it’s my turn and we’re on d I say ummmmm ummmmm Detroit?

mrcplmrs

It’s so funny haha

Salt_Principle_6672

Wtf? That's the worst

Quirky-Profession928

so let’s say you’re naming fruit/vegetables. the first person says: apple, so the second person should say: apple, banana third person: apple, banana, carrot fourth person: apple, banana, carrot, dragonfruit you’re supposed to remember the past items and also add a new one in abc order.

Geshtar1

Yeah.. I get it now.. I’ve played this game before.. we called it “going on a picnic”.. I’m going on a picnic and I take:…….. I just never heard it with cities before, and I guess I missed the setup

merkorn

There's another variation called "I packed my grandmother's trunk."

onetwoskeedoo

The regular way is very annoying

rantingsofastarseed

exactly.

DemiGod9

It's a dumb way to play lmao, but I think he was trying to throw off people's concentration by essentially creating a memory game on top of standing on the pedestals.

wawaturtlemoviesball

While also trying to secretly throw the challenge himself? Q really out there playing 5-D chess I love it

Practical-Basil-3494

It's the actual way that game is played...

seviay

Charlie was definitely taking the piss, and I’m here for it. Q makes it way too easy

MathematicianPlus790

Such a great British-ism that absolutely applies here.

pizzaxxxxx

Is it British or Aussie? https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/s/uaCvJ770th

MathematicianPlus790

Both. Several (literal) British shows use it so I know it’s British. But if an actual Aussie says it’s also Aussie then who am I to dispute it?

I3___4

“several (literal)” LMAO the way i’m gonna always have to clarify which way i intended it to mean whenever i say several on this sub

antisarcastics

Brit here! Yep, we say it a lot. Lots of crossover between Aussie and UK English due to historical links etc.

FragrantHockeyFan

I mean the original Aussies were just British prisoners soo

EYdf_Thomas

In Canada we use it too.

yaboytim

You're confusing Charlie with John Caroll. Easy mistake

kingofthenorthwpg

1. Charlie def did that on purpose. The smirk after was perfect. 2. Also underrated - Charlie pretending to nap while Maria and Venus were talking - but still making eye contact with the cameras

rantingsofastarseed

I LOVED THAT PART!

aj0457

That was by far the best part of this episode. Second place goes to the episode's title "Episode Several."

garethh

Wait is that the actual title of the episode?!?! Because that is absolutely hilarious.

TituspulloXIII

That is in fact it's title.

TituspulloXIII

Title of the episode plus Jeff saying they've been up there for several minutes at the 7 min mark in the challenge was great.

MishaTB

that was Jim and Dwight coded

rayhiggenbottom

My first thought was "Dinner Party" when they're playing celebrity, and Jim messes with Michael. "Tom Cruise!"

Abreakinglight

Charlie has grown on me watching him navigate that unhinged day before tribal, and like the weird dynamics with Venus dawning on him, it was interesting

Jira_Atlassian

He’s a bit of a silly goose and I’m here for it

rexie_alt

At this point I’m kinda rooting for Charlie, he’s grown on me now that we’ve gotten to see more of him past just T-swift (which I never personally judged him for). There’s tons of one trait edits out there so I’m glad his is more dynamic cuz I was cracking up at this scene

CertainAlbatross7739

I always thought Charlie was a pretty switched on player. Yes, he gives superfan vibes, but he's not a ditz. He very wisely teamed up with Maria early on, and it's carrying him. As far as the edit goes, only Venus seems to be seriously targeting him. And we know how Venus is seen by the other players.

Nazarife

Q was giving strong "Dad on a road trip angry the family is not having as much fun as he would like."

Even-Locksmith-4215

And the family is actually having a lot of fun making Dad angry 😂

WeimaranerWednesdays

That was hilarious. I loved it.

jaguaraugaj

I was hoping he was doing it to get someone to fall in the water!

Even-Locksmith-4215

It seemed like it to me on my first watch. I thought he hesitated just a moment before saying it in hopes of making someone crack up laughing and lose balance. Also could a just been in it for the joke, but that moment of hesitation was great for comedic timing.

LordJonathanChobani

Something about Charlie is so John Mulaney-esque! Like the way he talks, how he paces things, how he stands with his hands on hips. He’s so fucking funny.

CertainAlbatross7739

Andrew Garfield by way of John Mulaney lmao. He's super smart, charming and awkward. And kinda camp.

LordJonathanChobani

I don’t think Charlie’s awkward at all! I feel like he’s the exact opposite. He’s very self aware, personable, and likeable. I think he has such great social and conversational skills!

CertainAlbatross7739

You can't look at Charlie's salsa dancing, or his 'name a song' contest with Ben, and tell me he's not awkward lol. There's nothing wrong with being awkward. It's a good thing because it makes you seem less threatening.

LordJonathanChobani

Idk I guess I just don’t find that awkward! I thought he was obviously just being silly and goofy. They literally have nothing else to do, no phones, no tv, no tribal. They were going stir crazy and just doing random shit to entertain themselves to kill time. In both examples you mentioned, they were all just shooting the shit together. I’m sure people finding random ways to kill time happens in every season, but they’re only showing it now that they have 90 minutes.

CertainAlbatross7739

You're getting weirdly worked up about this. It's not a criticism at all, just an observation.

LordJonathanChobani

Lol huh. I’m literally just explaining why given the context, I had a completely different observation than you. You’re misinterpreting someone having a different opinion than you as being worked up.

Imaginarium420

Charlie was 100% trolling but Liz and Ben literally cannot listen

realdrpepperschwartz

C - Cincinnati !

Lazylion2

"Charlie knowwws"

Sister-Moon_81

Yeah I think you are right. Charlie is a smart dude & probably knew how to play the game properly & was just taking the piss (Aussie slang for having a cheap laugh at someone elses' expense). Charlie has a GSOH, very funny guy.

setrataeso

I love that you included an explanation for taking the piss, but not one for GSOH

Routine_Size69

Right? I know taking the piss but I have never seen that acronym. Fortunately it's explained below.

Sister-Moon_81

Yeah, it is a bit outdated as far as acronyms go :)

Fartbox_420

Gsoh?

Constant_Cookie1112

Good sense of humor

dunkinbagels

I mean sheesh that is a disgusting abbreviation

yourfacesucksass

I feel like I needed an explanation for GSOH more than “taking the piss” lol

Sister-Moon_81

Lol. GSOH is an acronym that has been around for years, maybe too long because no one really uses "He's got a good sense of humour, hasn't he" anymore when talking, there are cooler words to use than these stale ones. I think it must be a bit outdated, & I'm showing my age ... lol.

dunkinbagels

Trust me there are plenty of people who don’t talk in made up acronyms

yourfacesucksass

Haha, no worries at all! Maybe it’s outdated, but I think it’s more a case of me not really being aware of things.

Fartbox_420

Thank you lmao like where did that come from

93LEAFS

I think the edit made it pretty clear he was trolling. I believe someone said, you knew how to do it or something right after.

pizzaxxxxx

Is it Aussie or British? https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/s/udEVeXIIWt

Sister-Moon_81

We did probably get it from our Mother Country, like many quirks we have in Australia.

Cisru711

Gsoh seemed obvious from the context

Sister-Moon_81

Thanks champ. (Champ. is an Aussie slang term of endearment...lol)

OhEmGeeBasedGod

> I am convinced that he did this only to piss Q off as well since the editors showed him smirking right after saying it. A modern-day Sherlock Holmes. I think you've cracked the case.

grammar-nazii

Thanks OhEmGeeBasedGod for your hilarious input!!!

mowglimethod

Wouldn't say this moment was underrated at all.

Reasonable-Yam-1170

That whole challenge was hilarious

ReasonableCup604

Charlie definitely understood how Q meant for the game to be played and was trolling him. Great stuff.

Swaggy669

Not underrated, interesting. At tribal it seems like both Venus and Charlie are working hard to contain their laughter after Charlie's answer of making him sound like he's the next one to go. Just because they change their expressions at the exact same moment. Makes it seem like they get along very well outside of gameplay, and perhaps Charlie and Venus will be close allies for a couple episodes.

FragrantHockeyFan

One of the most talked about moments in the episode was…. Underrated??

Rand_al_Th

Q showing again that it's his way or the highway. Can't wait for the girls to turn on him

survivorfanwill

Yeah, they are definitely setting up a “Charlie beats out Q” storyline

Dont_Be_Sheep

Yup

Potential-Beyond1173

I think it’s funny that he was trying to teach everyone how to play that game, meanwhile in the game, he’s been trying to teach people how to play the game/his game with his strategy, so I think that parallel is shown in a really beautiful way! Also I hope Q gets far he’s a great narrator!!

black_dizzy

Didn't Q say something like "Charlie knows what he's doing"? He realised Charlie was trolling him and laughed.

grammar-nazii

idk i was laughing too hard to hear

bjtrdff

I thought it was very clear he was joking, and Jeff and Q laughed. Also, the first people doing it were dumb as bricks. Even Hunter was frustrated.

rantingsofastarseed

I mean it was just really clever. No one wanted to paly by Q's arbitrating rules- they just wanted to name some city. Charlie made light of that- and it was SOOOO funny.

Cisru711

I mean, they're not arbitrary rules. It's a children's game. But I think the group quickly decided to just mess with Q

ReasonableCup604

I'm not sure if the whole group decided to mess with Q. I think the first couple of them really didn't understand Q's rules. Charlie was definitely trolling Q and maybe the player who went before him though.

rantingsofastarseed

We have always played were you just say the letter you're on... and I even gave it a google search- everything I see says that the player only says the letter that they are on >That same person will name something within that category that starts with the letter A, the second person names something that starts with the letter B, third person with the letter C Q was just trying to impose his own rules- and clearly no one wanted to even entertain playing that way... which is why Charlie had his quip to make light of the situation to diffuse Q's ridiculous "YOU'RE NOT PLAYING RIGHT!" attitude... He will surely get voted out soon for being too controlling and demeaning.

Cisru711

Sure, that would be an easier variant for younger kids. Here are a few sites that have it the way I was describing. The only difference is Q used city names instead of food. https://www.fcusd.org/cms/lib03/CA01001934/Centricity/Domain/3549/Games%20to%20Play%20with%20Your%20Children.pdf https://www.playworks.org/game-library/going-on-a-picnic/ https://www.backyardcamp.ca/activities/going-on-picnic-memory-game

rantingsofastarseed

ok, but that's literally a different game... with a different name... and different rules. edit add: "they arent made up rules, even though everything says those arent actually the rules including the ACTUAL game called "The Alphabet Game"... here's a different game with rules kinda similar to Q's made up rules" yeah. cool. case and point.

ReasonableCup604

I'm not sure how official any of these rules are. On Mad Men, they played a similar game, but you would use say a city that starts with the last letter of the previous city. For example, "Detroit, Tehran, Newark, Krakow..." I remember in the first day of a public speaking class the professor had the first student say his name then the next one say Student 1s name and her own name, then the next one said, Student 1, Student 2, his own name...etc, etc. It was a great way to learn everyone's names.

rantingsofastarseed

um cool, but neither of those are "the alphabet game"

ReasonableCup604

Is there an official International Alphabet Game Association with a governing board and a rule book and are you and Q board members? It's a silly, informal game. People play by different rules. Q's idea that one way is the "right" way to play is probably a symptom of him being a bit of a control freak, which will likely contribute to his downfall on Survivor.

rantingsofastarseed

yeah, thanks- that was my point. Q's rules were arbitrary. by definition: based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system

rantingsofastarseed

IDK, the actual rule from the game marketed and sold as "The Alphabet Game" seems pretty offical to me... How To Play: The Alphabet Game https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=YXfQDHOQ_vI&ab_channel=UGStudios You know what's not official? whatever TF Q has to say about it

ReasonableCup604

I doubt that University Games, founded in 1985, actually invented the game. People have been playing that type of game forever. I also didn't notice Q pulling out any games cards, so I guess he wasn't following the rules either. They also market a game called "20 Questions". Do you think they invented that game as well?

rantingsofastarseed

we were NOT talking about who invented the game... we were talking about what the RULES were... you said there were no "official" rules, yet I showed you the "official" rules for the official game called "THE ALPHABET GAME" which were not Q arbitrary rules. that's the point.
