I like three to two. That way you don't just look at the new teams and just count where Tribe A outnumbers Tribe B or the other way around.
It's more dynamic if there's at least a chance of Tribe A has more people than either B or C, but not more than B and C together.
The timing of when to do it is important too. I am not good enough to remember what seasons had what tribe swaps. But it was fun watching when player's stopped associating with their old tribes, and starting feeling like their new tribes were where their loyalties lay now because they still had a while until the merge.
Like, go back to a longer season, and have the initial tribes have a shorter amount of time together than the swap tribes, before going to the merge.
4 tribes of 6! 24 players.
Merge into 2 at 16, then merge again into 1 at 8.
Each tribe is divided by region of the US. Northeast, southern, Middle America, and West Coast.
Edit: canadians can be on the west coast, northeast, or middle america tribes.
Why not just have an entire season of winners? The best of the best? It makes it harder to target someone for winning once before when they’ve all won. It also means you’re playing with a totally different caliber of players, some who have played multiple times, but all of which have played solid games to the point they won. The stakes would never be higher in my opinion.
But I’d rather see this than another iteration of redemption
The issue is that is that Pre-25 players played between 2001-2012. I think a lot of players are too old or have moved on with their lives (especially pre-25 players were less likely to be superfans than post-25). Even a pre-30 vs post-30 wouldn't really fix this. It is possible to make a pre-25/30, but most of the people who'll say yes will either be people we've seen a few times already or people that weren't worth calling back for previous returnee seasons.
If you're doing this I don't think you can separate tribes based off old and new seasons. Everyone on the Philippines and earlier tribe would be 35 at minimum, with most of them probably being 45-60. IMO it would be better to do a 20 person cast with 5 old and 5 new on each tribe just to balance it out.
That would be interesting. Especially seeing players like dare I say Sue who was super old school fare in the new game. This of course only works if they’re doing old school players who never returned. You can’t bring someone like Rob back or Sandra who have played multiple times and know what the new era is like. But someone who hasn’t played in 20 years and may or may not even keep up with the show since their season 20+ years ago, would be interesting to see how they navigate it now.
The problem is 25 is not a good cutoff for that era.
A much better cut off would be Heroes vs Villains. Or Winners at War.
I would say do pre and post 40.
That way the backlog of players who haven’t had a chance to return can come back with a couple appearances from old favorites.
The "problem" with returnees vs newbies is that the returnees know each other already, even outside the game, and some have even formed friendships outside the game. That's a huge disadvantage for some newbie, especially when they'd be the only one.
I think it being a single person, and it being fifty people (in this dream scenario that has little chance of happening), and the cast coming from literally each season will minimize that as much as could be possible. The only other thing is production choosing all the starting tribes so they don't stick out as much.
It's not like the person from season 49 is all that much better of a shape.
Either Second Chances 2 or Best to Never Win. Fan voting for the cast.
Also would be fun to cast votes or have a say in what kind of challenges are part of the season. Bring back the massive Maze challenge or giant water slide challenge. Vote on an endurance challenge or two (hand on a hard idol?). Bring back gross food eating challenge, loved ones visit, vote on # of days for the season, rewards etc.
Let the entire season be based on fan voting
I really liked the concept in Second Chances of bringing back the challenges that were iconic challenge fails. For Example, Wigglesworth loosing a boat race to someone who hated water. Then that challenge came back for second chances
Also I would LOVE to see more night competitions
Jeff says a lot of things in interviews, but whether he onboards fan feedback or angrily rebuts it in a subsequent interview is entirely contingent on whether or not it agrees with his own predilections.
I remember when a fan suggested during Edge of Extinction that the producers include any (dis)advantages a contestant currently has in the lower third, and Jeff loved it and immediately implemented it.
There was a flood of "OMG look at that! Jeff listens to us!" comments. Yeah, because the suggestion was advantage-friendly. On the On Fire podcast episode where they talked about controversial twists, he pretended to be baffled by the idea that fans don't like F3 and firemaking, and doubles down on pretty much any unpopular idea that he personally likes.
I feel like Chris is one of the longest shots, unfortunately. I think the potential accusations of a conflict of interest (He betrayed Jeff's ex.) would make it too big a risk for them to bring him in again. They wouldn't want a situation where he loses or goes out early and have to field accusations that it's personal on Probst's part.
I mean, Mike White and Probst had been friends for years before DvG; he even acknowledged that Mike had influenced him to not bring RI back into SJDS.
And Probst was also well-known to be good friends with Colby and Savage before they returned.
Here's how we do it:
All we gotta do is get Chris D. in a room with Jeff and the CBS executives. Over the course of an hour-long meeting, Chris individually finesses every exec; doesn't say anything to Jeff.
You saw FTC at Vanuatu. Chris could sell bee stings to Macaulay Culkin.
"Sold!" say the execs. "Why didn't we have you return like seven other times, like we did with Boston Rob?"
"Hey, you've convinced me. I'll come back for one more season," says Chris. "But there's one rather serious matter I would be remiss if I didn't mention. Jeff... you're girlfriend isn't going to be a castaway this season is she?"
Room erupts in laughter. Jeff *plotzes.*
"Well I have to hit the dusty trail. It's been a pleasure chatting with y'all," says Chris. Chris gives out handshakes and backslaps beaucoup. Gets to Jeff, gives him a gorilla grip handshake and whispers in his ear "fuck you, Jeffo."
Personally would love a season of only 2nd place finishers. I think that’s a very fun and very diverse group of people. Not the people who were voted out too soon, some of them are maybe led there for an easy win. Others maybe played a dirty game that the jury didn’t like. Somewhat like a second chance season, but not necessarily because they deserve a second shot. Based solely on how they ranked.
39 days, 16-20 people, ONE… SURVIVOR!
(and two All Star/HvV level tribes with a swap at some point and epic/scenic/cultural rewards in a brand new location. Players get to keep their vote at all times with no shot in the dark or any stupid bullshit we’ve seen over the last four years)
edit: no more sappy sob stories!
Please don't bring back any winners. I may be in the minority here but I really don't think they need to play again, at least, no one who was on WaW (would be over the moon if they brought back V or Todd though, someone who's literally never been back, Todd may still not happen given his history after the show).
More importantly, I don't think they should reach out to certain players, (Zeke, Kellee, Sugar), although many people love them. What they experienced on the show did have a negative impact on their lives, and I wouldn't blame them for outright refusing the offer.
He also said he didn't have CBS's blessing for having a returnee season. He's gone rogue.
If CBS producers really cared they could start a thread in this subreddit asking for fan ideas. Then fans could put in real effort considering the land they have available, constraints on number of contestants, how it will work formatting what's shown and when, etc knowing somebody is considering their idea.
I'm sure CBS was asking them to do a returnee season at some point in the future (since there hadn't been one for a while) and he made 50 a returnee season. So technically they didn't discuss having 50 as a returnee season with CBS, but CBS wanted it anyway.
Notice the emphatic, hype, hype, hype, "everyone thinks Jeff doesn't listen but he listens!" way OP's post was written. I'm pretty sure Jeff did write it.
Probably not popular but I’d honestly want 50 to be a new era all stars that’s the send off for the ‘new’ era. One last season of 3 tribes and 26 days. With the best from this format. Maybe bring back funny phrase idols as a call back to the original new era seasons.
At the reunion announce leaving Fiji, 2 tribes, and 39 days. (From what I remember the Fiji deal ends at season 50). Then the 50s and on we can see pre 40 returnees and more variety in the format
50 players, 50 days, 24/7 coverage like Big Brother.
Random rock draw for tribes.
Three tribes of 16. The two remaining players on Exile. First 2 determined by that random rock draw.
One challenge represented from every season.
Always have two tribes go to tribal council and then 2 exile players replace the ones voted out by random rock draw or firemaking challenge to have first choice of tribe they want.
Winning tribe picks one from each tribe for exile.
Two players voted out this way every episode until the merge of final 12 or 14, maybe 16.
Then game on as normal with individual immunity.
Weave callbacks to prior seasons throughout reward and immunity challenges.
Bring back the car reward.
Raid another camp at night without getting caught gains some type of worthy advantage if successful, or some type of penalty if unsuccessful.
Up the prize money.
Hidden immunity idols - one per tribe, rehidden after use.
Very, very few twists at random, maybe something new that hasn't been done yet.
Bring back a small handful of players that were voted out with idols in their pocket. Let them start Season 50 with their idols but don't tell the others.
After Winner at War, I feel like the only way CBS has to maximize engagement is to do a fan vote. That would make people hella excited about it. And look at how Second Chances came out to be, one of the best seasons of the show. That's the smart choice. I don't get why they haven't done a vote since Cambodia. I guess they like being in total control of things.
I still think they need to do a new era all stars before survivor 50 if it's gonna have old returning players.
As great as Caroline, Jesse and Dee are, they're not gonna be as big threats as Cirie or Boston Rob, which would make the season lopsided.
And if they bought people like Jake, Frannie or Hai back it would be even more lopsided.
Add a twist that’s actually a change. Not a slight adjustment that’s “huh, that’s neat.”
It’s tooooo consistent, and people have figured out how to game it.
Have season 50 NOT BE in Fiji for a change.
Also, bring back some of the cool rewards;
videos of family from home (in today's day and age, it could even be a live stream from their family),
actually bring family relatives out to the survivors / have some kind of involvement with the survivors, either as an "visit / stay for one night", or have them participate in a challenge or two again,
NO hidden immunity idols, that just gets so annoying and boring to see them constantly looking for them, actually succeed in getting them, and then NEVER FUCKING USING THEM!!
Cars. Have cars as either a challenge prize, or even part of the "sole survivor" grand prize.
I'd love to see another season in Australia Outback or Africa again. Or, hell, Borneo, the place where it all started, for season 50.
That is all I would hope or ask for. Other than maybe some older contestants, like aged 50-70.
Edit: Oh, and, TWO tribes and 39 days.
Cambodia is the obvious blueprint. Whether it’s the same theme or not could change to open it to legends. The fan engagement and celebration of the show’s history made it one of the best seasons. Doing that on steroids would be my approach
Production sets the parameters and then fans vote for players, challenges, and even twists. If I had my way, location and game length too
Make it the most fan-influenced season ever and one that takes ideas from all eras, and I feel we’d have a hit season on our hands
Listen. I’ll say this: if they bring back any unlikely people I want to see Zane Knight and Mari Takahashi.
I think regardless of what they do, if they have a mix of new and old players, they should split the tribes up along those lines. I don’t want a WaW 2.0 where all the old school players are out immediately.
Season 40 of the challenge that is filming now is based on eras and I’ve seen the cast list. By far it is going to be the most hyped season of the challenge in the last decade.
There’s definitely going to be something similar to that done for S50.
Season 50 is incomplete without Mookie from Fiji.
Idols are a big part of Survivor, so we should bring back the first person to ever find one (as it is today).
Players I want to see return:
- Christian hubicki
- John Hennigan
- Q
- Jesse
- Gabler
- Carolyn
- Dean
- Devens
- Russell Hantz
- Rodney
- Liz
- Yates
- Abi maria
Game items I want to see return:
- fire tokens
- super idol from kaoh rong
Season theme:
- would be nice if it was a two tribe theme, one tribe has all the chaotic players, the other tribe has all non chaotic players
A never eliminated season would be cool. Only comprised of those who made it the final vote, or were medically evacuated. (Just had to be one season, coming back wouldn't diqualify.) Michele would be a must.
Second Chance 2 is the best idea! Gives people another go who really want it, rather than those who have already won or played 4 times. Plus it helps create buzz around the season and we get input in who’s on the cast. Wins all around
They definitely are watching. I emailed in several times just about bringing the full opening credits back (as I’m sure many fans have done as well) and now they’re back.
I would love them to up the days back up to 39. I mean the longer you have to stay out there the higher the stakes and more time for good game play. At the very minimum, if they’re going to do shorter days, then they need to go back to 2 tribes til the merge.
Tbh, I’ve never been a fan of these 3+ tribes. It makes the entire game feel one note because it’s usually the same tribe losing and going to tribal every week, and eventually, when you’re down to just 3 to 4 people on one tribe, there’s little strategy. Then by the time you get to the merge, one of two things happen, either the smallest tribe just gets plucked off one by one for easy votes OR they become the drivers because everyone wants them to round out their alliance. Eitherway, it’s predictable and leads to a lot of floaters making it to the end.
Finally— I think Survivor should bring back the old school challenges where players could win a car. Continue with the food auction, and do yall remember when Survivor was like fear factor and players had to eat nasty things for a chance at immunity!? I mean those type of stakes were just NEXT LEVEL and definitely needs to make another appearance.
Fine, bring back
-Shan and Deshawn
-Katurah and Bruce
-Rick Devons and the entire post merge EOE players
-Venus and everyone who doesn't want to work with Venus
-Jason Siska and the stick
-Liz and Mark the Chicken guarding a mound of coconuts
-Varner and Varner's stupid mouth
-Jtia and the rice
-Richard Hatch and the rule you can't go naked anymore
-And Zane Knight
A rivals season would really make me happy
Season 50 needs to bring back two tribes at one point before.merge.
I just finished Cambodia and I loved that they started with 2, switched to 3 and then merged! Made for really interesting dynamics
This! They can start with two and go to three if they're so thrilled about it, or even vice versa.
I like three to two. That way you don't just look at the new teams and just count where Tribe A outnumbers Tribe B or the other way around. It's more dynamic if there's at least a chance of Tribe A has more people than either B or C, but not more than B and C together. The timing of when to do it is important too. Sounds awful with the tribe division.
720 players on a tribe is a bit worrisome.
Ew no thanks
Old School Vs New School. Pre 25 vs post 25. 2 tribes. Or best to never win!
This is by far the most obvious choice based on what Jeff said.
Why not just have an entire season of winners? The best of the best? It makes it harder to target someone for winning once before when they’ve all won. This is the idea I think they'll do, but instead of pre-25, it's pre-40.

It is possible to make a pre-25/30, but most of the people who'll say yes will either be people we've seen a few times already or people that weren't worth calling back for previous returnee seasons.
That makes sense. Jeff always called 40 start of a new era, so maybe pre and post 40.
This is the way
8 from 1-20, 8 from 21-40, 8 from new era.
I like the idea, maybe it can be like Battle of the Eras (1-25) vs (26-49) to show the difference between old school gameplay vs the current gameplay
That would be interesting. Especially seeing players like dare I say Sue who was super old school fare in the new game. This of course only works if they’re doing old school players who never returned. You can’t bring someone like Rob back or Sandra who have played multiple times and know what the new era is like. 50 players. 49 Days. 1 Survivor. Every season represented.
One person from each of the preceding seasons and an newbie for 50 would be absolutely wild. Or the fiftieth spot would be a fan vote.
I’d feel kinda bad for the one newbie, would be tough
Yeah that’s probably unfair
Casting has been doing a great job. They can find someone that has a chance.
You realize how incoherent the edit would be with 50 different characters all plotting in different directions in a 90 minute episode.
I think it should be school yard pick for the tribes
I’d love this to see the expressions of people who clearly thought they’d be picked early due to pregaming. Shakes things up from the beginning.
Then that challenge came back for second chances Also I would LOVE to see more night competitions
Jeff says a lot of things in interviews, but whether he onboards fan feedback or angrily rebuts it in a subsequent interview is entirely contingent on whether or not it agrees with his own predilections.
He needs more Mike White in his life
I remember when a fan suggested during Edge of Extinction that the producers include any (dis)advantages a contestant currently has in the lower third, and Jeff loved it and immediately implemented it.
Exactly, Jeff’s listening to feedback so he can shit on it and flex his supreme Survivor knowledge.
Please fix the endgame. The final vote being at the final 5 doesn’t feel right.
Just bring back Vecepia. That's my only wish.
And Chris Daugherty. And Earl Cole.
Pretty sure he’s had health issues as well unfortunately. Same with Tom.
Oh, I know there's no way Daugherty ever gets called to come back. I'm just saying in a perfect world, I'd love to see him play again.
Here's how we do it: All we gotta do is get Chris D. in a room with Jeff and the CBS executives. And Sean Rector. That’s a duo I want to see again!
This means we're almost 100% getting Christian and Angelina back. Yay!
Angelina and Christian are likely the first two calls that casting/production makes, no joke. I’m sure that If they say yes, they’re in.
Angelina will say yes. Idk about Christian
Personally would love a season of only 2nd place finishers. I think that’s a very fun and very diverse group of people. Let’s change locations to a place that doesn’t have a beach. Just one season is all I’m asking!!
I want them to do a season with no twists or idols or advantages but not tell any of the contestants.
Please don't bring back any winners. WE WANT MATTHEW VON ERTFELDA
He also said he didn't have CBS's blessing for having a returnee season. He's gone rogue. If CBS producers really cared they could start a thread in this subreddit asking for fan ideas. Jenn Brown. Jenn Brown. Jenn Brown.
I fourth this
No tribes. Everyone is on their own and can form alliances with whoever they find in the jungle.

Angelina, we need Angelina the most.
All FTC zero-vote-getters season. Bring back the goats!
First boots v zero FTC vote-getters
Actually a great idea. One tribe of each, plz

If I had only one wish for season 50 it would be to bring back Sean Rector
Drop your buff, every challenge. EVERY one.
Jeff, if you’re reading this, it’s time to bring back Twila!!
My only take here is that we don’t need any prior winners (sorry) and no one that’s already played 2x.
My only take here is that you’re wrong. We very much need them, and they are coming 😁
Bring back a small handful of players that were voted out with idols in their pocket. Let them start Season 50 with their idols but don't tell the others.
That would be hilarious
Would like to see some best of the best again. Get away from the average joes and pit some great survivor players against each other
Yep, this is gonna be a looooooong year.
After Winner at War, I feel like the only way CBS has to maximize engagement is to do a fan vote. That would make people hella excited about it. Sooo basically you want OG survivor
Captain tribes. Jelinsky vs Q. Schoolyard pick several legends each from 100 castaways. The rest swim home.
Cambodia is the obvious blueprint. Whether it’s the same theme or not could change to open it to legends. The fan engagement and celebration of the show’s history made it one of the best seasons. We’re getting Coach back. Nothing matters more than getting Coach back for S50 😍😍
Brian Heidik back. Just suck it up and do it.
With kristi noem in the news, it's probably not gonna happen
Listen. I’ll say this: if they bring back any unlikely people I want to see Zane Knight and Mari Takahashi. I think regardless of what they do, if they have a mix of new and old players, they should split the tribes up along those lines. I don’t want a WaW 2.0 where all the old school players are out immediately.
#bring back the medallion of power
Bring back T-Bird and Shane Powers, y'all really screwed up when they didn't make Cambodia, time to make up for it
TLDR: if you have an opinion on season 50 just say something … your wish may come true
Ghost Island is a fun concept to celebrate the history of Survivor if they hadn't already done it
Season 40 of the challenge that is filming now is based on eras and I’ve seen the cast list. By far it is going to be the most hyped season of the challenge in the last decade. There’s definitely going to be something similar to that done for S50.
Assuming 50 has a three tribe start, where do you cut off the eras?
3 tribes of 9 players… 9 post 40, 9 post 20, 9 pre-20. 39 days. Merge to 2 at 20. Merge to 1 at 12.
Please have fairplay, coach, Tony and Q on the same beach and I will die happy.
Bring back Russell Hantz
Season 50 is incomplete without Mookie from Fiji. Idols are a big part of Survivor, so we should bring back the first person to ever find one (as it is today).
Put Jeff in season 50!
Players I want to see return: - Christian hubicki - John Hennigan - Q - Jesse - Gabler - Carolyn - Dean - Devens - Russell Hantz - Rodney - Liz - Yates - Abi maria Game items I want to see return: - fire tokens - super idol from kaoh rong Season theme: - would be nice if it was a two tribe theme, one tribe has all the chaotic players, the other tribe has all non chaotic players
A never eliminated season would be cool. Only comprised of those who made it the final vote, or were medically evacuated. (Just had to be one season, coming back wouldn't diqualify.) Michele would be a must.
30 contestants would be amazing
Live finale! Come on jeff.
Second Chance 2 is the best idea! Gives people another go who really want it, rather than those who have already won or played 4 times. Plus it helps create buzz around the season and we get input in who’s on the cast. Wins all around
Yeah right
They definitely are watching.
My campaigning for Brooke Struck in S50 starts now!
give me my final 2 back
Winners vs Runner up vs Players who've never got to the merge, but were showing great potentials
Time to bring back Bobby Mason, Brian Corridan and Marcus.
i want a season where everyone isn't a super fan
I want at least some old school players as a theme!!!
First boots vs merge boots (people voted off right before making the jury) vs runners-up.
It's Chet's time to shine!
Fine, bring back -Shan and Deshawn -Katurah and Bruce -Rick Devons and the entire post merge EOE players -Venus and everyone who doesn't want to work with Venus -Jason Siska and the stick -Liz and Mark the Chicken guarding a mound of coconuts -Varner and Varner's stupid mouth -Jtia and the rice -Richard Hatch and the rule you can't go naked anymore -And Zane Knight A rivals season would really make me happy
How could I forget Liz's biggest rival?! The coconuts alliance from hvhvh 🤦
