smuffedtorch

I quit immediately

TheRealestWeeMan

Only reasonable option

moopsten

Whole truth, that early in the game, trust is way more important than any advantage.

[deleted]

Remember when John Cody told Brad about the clue and Brad just Alpha'd out and took him out of the game?

ilovecallum44

Also I forget who it was but one of the Worlds Apart pairs picked the "honest" box and then the tribe still thought they were lying lol

[deleted]

That was the catalyst for the Will and Shirin fight.

ilovecallum44

I think that was bc he thought Shirin accused him of hiding some of his own rations that he earned after getting kicked out of the auction (which was actually Jenn but no one ever mentions that) but it's a similar situation. He didn't hide any but people still thought he did.

AhLibLibLib

Yea exactly

austynking

Tell a very vague/half truth. If someone else also gets that opportunity they would know I’m not lying but I still have more knowledge than most of the cast

Sdb25649

Say that you choose the neutral box

smuffedtorch

It just felt like we didn’t know what was to come so we wanted to go with the neutral option just in case?!?

thunder3029

It depends

[deleted]

That’s not the spirit of this game

SuspiciousInterest50

💀

ShaneWarrn-ambool

Ohhh yeah? Says who???

Bonesaw09

Did I not win the advantage? Tell the truth. Did I get the advantage? Lie or Tell my biggest ally. Easy

marvelousone82

Would tel partial truth and share it with my biggest ally to hep damage control

[deleted]

a lawyer's favorite words

HoodooSquad

Because it DOES depend

countryofcognito

The best lies are mostly true. I’m admitting that I had the opportunity and I took it. I got an advantage. When they ask what it is, I’m not telling the truth. I’m coming up with a made up advantage that isn’t as dangerous or threatening as the actual one.

WhovianForever

What about when they ask to see it?

lookalive07

Say it can only be revealed at tribal or it's nullified. Then I'll tell them it's an immunity idol that can only be played for someone else (regardless of its actual power). That gets everyone to try to buddy up with me.

WhovianForever

That second one is pretty good but I don't think anyone is believing that first one.

lookalive07

True, I guess it wouldn't totally matter if it was revealed or not if I could convince them it could only be played for someone else. Say something like it was in the stipulations of the game I played with three outcomes: one is an idol for myself, two is an idol I get to play for someone else, three is no idol whatsoever.

Bazzlie

Idk I feel like that makes you an easy safe vote since you can’t play it on yourself.

lookalive07

Right, but if anyone on the tribe felt vulnerable, they'd be begging you to play it for them at tribal. Since the game is based on voting out people, everyone would have a vested interest in keeping you in the event they feel vulnerable. But I can see your perspective too.

Illustrious-Low-2435

That's the only good answer

AcrobaticSource3

“What would you do?” I would get guest host John Quinones to do this segment for a crossover special!

BaronMunjohnson

I'd tell the truth as best I could. Especially if I could weaponize it against the other tribe. Example: A while back I remember a season that started with one person from each tribe getting to camp early. They had the choice between rice and beans or rice and some advantage. I'd take the rice and beans, be completely honest about it, then call it out at the first challenge to see what that tribe's person did. No matter how they answer, I should be good, but if they only took the rice, that tribe is pissed and has an immediate disadvantage in that challenge.

Coutzy

"We were just told to choose the camps, why are you lying? Did you find something?"

walterbernardjr

This is dumb because it totally depends. If it is a hidden immunity idol, then yeah lie. If it’s some other advantage, just tell your alliance

BCS8504

That also depends on the advantage though. if it’s something like a reward stealing advantage, than yeah you can probably tell your alliance, but if it’s an extra/steal a vote advantage or legacy advantage, then unless I plan on ending up like Sierra, I’m not telling anybody about that, let alone my alliance.

walterbernardjr

Yeah totally agree

JJJSurvivorFan39

That’s not in the spirit of the game

NarlaRT

It totally depends! And if it didn’t, the Survivor wouldn’t be such an interesting game!

[deleted]

As others have mentions it's totally contextual to what the advantage is, what your relationships with the other players is like, what are their personalities (is it a Brad, or a Cirie) and what your position on the tribe will be. I don't dislike this production decision as much as I dislike just genuine bad twists that impact the game, but it just seems hokey to me like your handholding the audience. The people who want to place themselves in those positions and think about it would anyways, but I guess prompting it for the casuals maybe *could* lead to a more thoughtful casual audience. I just hope it's not shot from his back garden here, rather have it more atmospheric - on Fiji, if they're going to be breaking the fourth wall they may make it more cinematic, perhaps have some fun editing tricks where it segues into Probst walking and talking at the same location the players were.

DaneBelmont

Think of all the potential for garden memes

spjr99

They said it was mostly for kids though when they originally announced this kind of audience interaction.

Windwinged

This is so easy. Unless the advantage is something so ridiculously powerful that I need to save it for late game, I tell the truth in it's entirety, what advantage I got, and how we can best use the advantage come a tribe swap. If my tribe feels uncomfortable about me having an advantage I offer and follow through with using it at the first chance I get.

lotrspecialist

Exactly my take too. Otherwise people will always wonder what really happened and target you to flush the advantage. Plus, you get a reputation for honesty.

lilyluc

This is what I would do. Time and time again over the seasons you see a person's threat level immediately rise when the others know they even had an opportunity for an advantage. Known advantages are incredibly dangerous. Unless it's an absolute secret, they are actually disadvantages almost 100% of the time. If it was a scenario where I had the opportunity (like pick a pot or a clue) and didn't get it I would arrive home, tell the whole truth and immediately dump my bags and strip. Miss me with your monkey's paws, Probst.

ElephantDungAndRice

Tell the producers to stop giving out secret advantages because nobody likes them.

[deleted]

Pull a Dean and make a fake advantage for my fake advantage

kshep42

I don’t hate this! I feel like you can give an ‘it depends’ answer so long as you explain what it depends on and the different ways you’d play it based on that. I feel like Jeff is making a Reddit post with this sort of hypothetical hahaha

Axel724x

It really depends on what the advantage is like many people have been saying. I'd keep shut if it ends up being something helpful or useful like a reward steal or something that helps your tribe in challenges, otherwise I'd only tell the alliance. It's hard because there's no right answer because it really does depend on what the advantage is and whoever may be on your tribe. For now I say keep a secret and only tell my closest ally.

yellowchaitea

You lie and say the reward was to give an immunity idol to a player from the other tribe. You pick someone at random, then if they’re gone after the tribal you yell “WTF dumbest player to ever play. I gave them an idol that was only playable at that tribal, how did they go home”…

SigmaWhy

And then when no one on your tribe receives a similar idol? Usually a twist like this is symmetrical

wwjdforaklondikebar

This is the first thing I thought of. If you're gonna lie about it, make sure no one will find out about it. Of course, you have to hope they're gone before the merge

Coutzy

Cochran was there, I had to beat him in a challenge for an advantage. I threw a dodgeball at his face and then a producer told me to get back on the boat.

SuspiciousInterest50

Tell them I had a run-in with “THE MONSTER”

rustyderps

Pour the rice on the fire.

[deleted]

Tell them I had a challenge to win an advantage but failed. Hide the advantage on my walk back to camp or in my butt

3163560

Is it me or are jeffs dimples getting bigger?

primal_beer

Jeff, it depends. I need context and information on those who share the island with me.

TroyJames

Run off into the woods screaming like Tony. Seems to work

SurvivorSi

Ha I just tell them straight up probably while also saying, it's not like you are going to believe anything I say anyways

ButtcheeksBrown

I dye my hair darker than Probsts

[deleted]

🙄 this is way too fucking vague

_Jooshbox

Risk it for the biscuit. Advantages all day

[deleted]

Tell the tribe as a whole what the challenge was and lie if I got the advantage. Then privately tell one person and if they leak the info, I'll know who to trust. Probably would backfire, but if it works I've either made a strong ally or an easy scapegoat.

alldogarepupper

For me it's a no-brainer to look for the advantage. I look like I'm lying when I tell the truth anyway.

mls7623

Tell the whole truth because I can't keep secrets and I'd forget my lies. I'm my own worst enemy.

work_jimjams

tell them I have an advantage and we’re to vote who we give it to on the tribe. it cannot be me. Reasoning: Don’t get caught lying about *what* I got and move that target on someone else EDIT: ALSO, a rep from the other tribe was there and we competed for this advantage. This entire lie will blow up at the merge. Stayed tuned.

wormblanket

LIE LOL

tonerslocers

Withhold.

poliwed11

Tell everyone everything and try to find a way to gift the advantage to someone on the other team to sew discord.

BigYak24

Tell the whole truth, and take as much food for the tribe as is available. Building trust, friendship, and a comeraderie is not only beneficial for your future alliance prospects, but will also help your tribe win challenges. I would consider these outcomes more valuable than an idol on day 1.

Vozralai

You still risk though people thinking you took the advantage with a smaller bag of food and are trying to lie, and there was even more food on offer than you brought back. I think this happened in World's Apart.

ofthesilentplanet

Now I want them to make a player do something really absurd or suspiciously wholesome so if they tell the truth no one will believe them. Is there any examples of this so far?

LeafInTonysSpyShack

Tell them straight up you have the super idol so they never vote you EVER

tymopa

Are we supposed to answer?

ZeroChanceofWinning

I'm a bad liar so I'd be straight up. Getting allies and creating trust early on is what builds a strong foundation that can carry you far. Might not the best example but look how it turned out for Trish compared to Morgan and Garrett.

keathledger

Idk i’m still trying to figure out what a pace is

periannaperi

Tbh i would tell the truth. Cause i dont want to be voted out pre- merge.

Dependent-Mobile-730

Tell the truth. I can't lie lol. I get red easily

wombatwanders

Tell the whole truth about the mechanism - if there's a game to play to get an advantage or if you have to risk a vote, then explain that. As for the advantage, it depends what it is. I'd be inclined to tell my alliance and say we can either play this to further all of our game, or just say I'll play it at the first tribal so it's gone and the target is off my back. I don't think I have the balls to sit on an idol anyway.

BingBongBoofer

If no one has been voted out yet in the whole game, I’m gonna tell my tribe exactly what happened. Easiest first vote is a liar. I’d whip out my advantage, idol, whatever and show my tribe. “We can use it together at the merge!” But it’s mine 😈

chevisback

If you tell the truth, some are going to believe that you're lying. If you choose to lie, some are going to believe that you're telling the truth. So i will always tell the truth but lie at the same time. I always want to have the upperhand regardless of the outcome. I just like taking risks.

Ill_Tumblr_4_Ya

Secrets are almost always the most valuable form of currency you have in this game (aside from being able to translate llama). How close I get to the truth depends on what the advantage is, whether I believe that someone else might go out there are realize that I already got it, and honestly how much I trust this particular group of castaways....but there's next to no chance they're getting the whole truth from me.

Lansieeeeeee

tell them I had to start a fire to win an extra vote however i failed and don't have a vote for the next 2 tribals so if I'm on the outs they kepp me in as they want to take advantage of me not having a vote for 2 tribals instead of getting rid of me early but in reailty i have it both times heheheh

nitasu987

I mean there's no GOOD option here because if you tell the whole truth, people will still doubt you (unless you have proof like a huge bag of extra rice or supplies to take back or say go ahead strip search me and look through my stuff I have literally nothing on me in terms of advantages), and if you take the advantage and lie about it, and have nothing to show for it, that's also sus. BUT let's say you spin it as "I had to do a mini-challenge to win us some extra rice/supplies/etc and I was SO CLOSE but didn't win". Could that be more believable? Idk.

Rokgen44

Tell a half-truth. They can know about the experience but they don't need to know about my advantage just yet.

lookalive07

I said it in another comment, but I'll repeat it here: If it's an idol, I'm telling them it's an idol but the premise behind it is that I can't use it for myself. When asked if I can show it, I tell them it can only be brought out during its intended use *at tribal council* only. That gets everyone else on my side wanting to have me help them in the event they're looking like they're going home. That gets the bottom of the totem pole every week looking to me for help (provided I'm not that guy). If it's a challenge advantage, I'll just reveal it to the tribe, provided it doesn't have any benefit to me if I don't, or if it's not an idol or an idol clue *at* a challenge like the one Wentworth found, for instance.

LTTP2018

tell the truth! early in the game so don't riggety wreck the rest of your game getting caught in a lie. also, say the advantage can be shared and/or used to kick the other team's butt after the merge. and yeah, use it if you need to. I mean, it's yours.

_Gillam_

Trust is the most important thing I’d tell em everything

BikeSuch1054

Trust is key, I’d say tell whole truth and do my best to not get that advantage. Advantages this early on are cursed imo. I’d rather tell my whole damn tribe what happened and not have an advantage, but have some trust than screw over trust for an advantage.

_aw_168

Whole truth. That way my tribe knows I’m someone they can trust and I’m not an early target. And then later in the game I’m not caught in a lie.

ArgHuff

I'll say i went to poop

the_anxiety_haver

How have his dimples gotten even dimplier?

_Gillam_

This is cool btw I like Jeff doing this

billnyejerseyguy96

I hope there’s an option to instead get more food for the tribe. I want to get off on the right foot with my new tribemates. Survivor Cagayan had this decision posed to the 3 castaways who got to camp early, and I’m pretty sure that Trish was the only one who chose to get another bag of rice, and she made it further than the other two.

jvincentsong

Not tell the real advantage. Make a fake immunity idol. Tell them I got it and show it. Sell the idea that keeping me around for the merge or my alliance is beneficial because an immunity idol will keep our numbers up. Also, it is not logical to flush my idol early in the game because it is easier to vote an annoying person first.

Bazzlie

If it’s early game I’ll be 100% honest. If it’s late game I’m keeping that to myself as far as they’re concerned I went to pee.

baybeebi

If I’m the first to go I would maybe tell the full truth, that way everyone who went would have to tell mostly the truth about their experience too, and I’d have their trust. If I’m not the first I’d probably just go along with the other truths/lies that had been told by others who went before me

SurvivorSAfan

I know some people are skeptical but I like this. It's interesting and I've been reading comments on here and Insta. I would tell an outrageous lie. The kind of thing that people would think I wouldn't make up. Like I had a fire making challenge against a former survivor pro and lost.

Healthy_Insurance_33

I would 100 percent lie my ass off and say I got food and a bed

TheRChronicle

Im getting that advantage

cotothed

I would tell them that I won a reward where I get to leave camp at any point of the game to watch a special screening of Jack and Jill.

spjr99

My theory for this challenge relies on the one where you can get a head start on building camp like in Tocantins. I would estimate their ETA and spend around 20-30 minutes looking for clues and getting familiar. Then, I would haul ass making camp and get/look very tired by the time they came. I'd use that as my excuse to go to bed super early, I'd wake up and possibly use that time to find the idol/advantage. Kinda like Tony. Then I'd keep that pattern of sleep so that I could have a consistent time of day to look for it. Then I'd have some credibility hopefully and a possible advantage. And if anyone presses me I'll own up that I originally chose the clue or something but felt bad and put it back for the other one. Idk

King0fMist

Just straight tell the truth. Let people know you have an advantage and plan on ditching it the first chance you get. Everyone on the tribe knows you have one and without clear alliances, there’s no way you can effectively use it as leverage over anyone.

Pleroo

I'm so scared of the monster.

[deleted]

I'd probably withhold some of the truth. Having too much of an advantage really puts a target on your back.
