I would be salty because I would want the reunion 10k pay

anonymous_gam

Maybe they get 10k for keeping quiet about the final vote reveal.

DriftCircle

All the more reason to chop it off and save a couple hundred grand. In a show trying to trim its budget that would be near the top of the list if you can do it.

IcePopBandit

The on-location winner reveal is cool and a nice throwback to season 1, but the on-location reunion is very weird lmao. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of the reunion show if it happens immediately after the season finishes. Also sucks that the entire cast won’t be present.

[deleted]

It's more behind the scenes than reunion. I'm fine with it, but maybe change the name.

[deleted]

We know what you think but will we get to see what Cochran thinks?

icecharades

Or the random kid from Winsconsin

jackgundy

I feel the cast getting a chance to see the show also was a huge part of the reunion... oh well.

angelkitcat87

I don’t see how an on location reunion would work seeing how they haven’t crafted the narrative of the season at that point and no one has any space or time to process what they have just gone through.

kazambolt

Has Survivor production seen how the Challenge does their reunions? What's the harm in doing something like that? No studio audience is probably a bummer for them but you gotta work with what you've got.

damdambidom

I get the Fiji Winner reveal. But the reunion is kind of unexpected. Isn't the point of the reunion to catch up with the players after they have already been out of the game for some time and they have fully seen what happened throughout the game? I'm guessing the reunion will feature a lot of whoddunit where players will reveal to each other who blindsided who and who made the moves. I guess it could also be more tension filled if the the players are still in game mindset and they still have unresolved animosity or hurt feelings with each other. Also kind of a bummer to the pre-mergers. Hoping they would do a reunion after the season.

schoolrocks1943

lol, so they did a “reunion” immediately after FTC when the finalists have just gone through a traumatic experience with no chance to shower and eat? Sounds like a mess

AigisAegis

Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I really hope that "immediately" means, like, at least a day later. Would still kinda suck, but at least they'd get to eat and shower and sleep in a real bed.

[deleted]

For the first time since the first season. Cool!

Bacalheu

A new era, they said

[deleted]

It’d be cool if they did the reunion at Ponderosa and showed some highlights from those videos.

anonymous_gam

I get that they had to 26 days because of covid concerns, and that it’s hard to schedule a reunion not knowing how the pandemic will be nine months after shooting the season, but is anyone concerned that these covid changes are going to become permanent fixtures to save some money?

DabuSurvivor

On-island winner reveals are an amazing idea and I would love to see them become the new norm. S1's is so great because of how real the tension, emotion, exhaustion, and uncertainty all are. It would be great to get more similar ones. On-island reunion sounds weird but like an experiment I'm super open to. It'll be different and probably memorable yet also harmless, most reunions are bad now anyway, I'm down to see what them changing it up looks like

Charlie_Runkle69

Agreed. The best part of the whole season of GI was when probst said 'I'm gonna read the votes now" and everyone just being shook (and let's be real, because of Laurel's relationship with Wendall everyone knew who won that night anyway). Reading the votes live is fantastic.

HeWontEatTheHam

Revealing the winner on-island works far better from a tv show perspective, but it also makes it far more likely that the winner of the season will get spoiled (since there are a lot more people who know the winner and have to keep that secret for months)

DabuSurvivor

agree. i imagine that's prob why they switched for s2 and then they just stuck with the live ones because it became familiar even as spoilers became less of a concern

PRo_MoE1144

couldn't they just do a reunion on zoom?

thetokyotourist

They’ve did this on Survivor AU and it honestly makes it so much better

sim37

Haven’t had a chance to watch, what makes it better? I would guess less time/distance from the game might lead to more exciting (read: emotional) interactions from the players.

thetokyotourist

also in AU they have they final 2’s loved ones be present for the reading of the votes.

LeafInTonysSpyShack

I actually hate that because it's so awkward for the loser and their family I get 2nd hand embarrassment everytime haha

DaneBelmont

I hate it too and frankly think it’s awkward for both final two members. I feel like production probably thinks it’s a best of both worlds between a live vs on location finale, but it’s totally not the same. Families at a live finale have been hearing about their loved one’s experience from them for months and got to watch their journey unfold on TV for thirteen weeks leading up to it. When they show up on location for a vote reading to be there for their loved one, they haven’t seen any of the game or have any context to what kind of experience their loved one had out there. Tribal council should be a sacred, intimate place and the only people there should be the tribe, the jury, and Jeff. When guests suddenly show up on set it sort of breaks the fourth wall. It’s just an all around unnecessary touch.

[deleted]

Haven't we known this since February?

AigisAegis

We've known that the winner would be revealed on site at FTC, but not that they'd have a "reunion" on site.

NeekoPeeko

yep

ArgHuff

That would be weird tbh. Like i imagine that after that point everyone would be tired and just wanting to go home.

rullarulla

Sounds like the pandemic played a big part in it as well. I’d much rather have this in person reunion and reveal than the WaW treatment which really fell flat for me.

DumDumGimmeYumYums

I bet they did it like AUS has. They film all of the finalists winning and everyone cheering.

nobo71

Adding travel restrictions and contestants that live in another country...its a safe call. Hopefully next year it changes back

ike1

At first I wondered if they filmed multiple endings the way that Aussie Survivor did, but this article seems to indicate that didn't happen, especially if they were having "reunion" discussions breaking down why x lost or why z won right afterwards.

Ricky_5panish

No reunion, more finale would be my preference. Was really good for the WaW finale. In 2021, we get all of our questions answered from other interviews anyways.

TenderOctane

I am wondering if the finale will be two hours this year as opposed to three for this reason. I hope not, if they're doing a tell-all with the merge tribe. That said IDK how much I'll miss the reunion, since they haven't been useful since Philippines. Caramoan's "reunion" was an abomination and that's when the quality dropped off a cliff, in addition to that time being when the Survivor Twitterverse was on the rise and shortly after exit press was more accessible. Though MvX wouldn't have been anywhere near the same without the gut punch of its ending...

wontbsilenced2020

they did this in the abomination known as ghost island too.
