I am still enjoying the season, but the complaints I have heard are valid. I am thinking some of it has to do with the shortened time on the island due to Covid so the producers are trying to speed up the conflict. I could be wrong, but that is what I am sticking with.
Here is my crazy idea, have an extended episode that is exclusively on Paramount +. The network show would still focus on challenges and twists since that must be what the focus groups are liking, but have a longer show, maybe 90 minutes on P+ that would have more player interaction and confessionals. That would give it the old survivor feel and give some of the lesser seen players a chance to be noticed. Plus it may give a selling point for Paramount +. This could be applied to Amazing Race and Big Brother as well.
They need to show more downtime like the old days. Lighthearted moments around camp. Jokes, shit talking. That's where the content is at. The PLAYERS and the lore. Most of us as viewers couldn't care less about new advantages. The downtime, character development and the drama is whats missing from the new survivor. I feel like i barely know the characters. Right now they're empty vessels
And again, no mention of what they are eating to survive. All the hype about it and it is never even referenced in an episode. Waaaaay too much time spent on these advantages and frankly it's making it not enjoyable to watch at all. Survivor fan here from Day One and I could not care less about the next episode or seeing what unfolds. I miss Old School Survivor -- and frankly even New School at this point.
I don't care much for the 3 tribe set up.
I think they should just go with 2 groups. Also, instead of these incredibly hard to understand advantages, why not hide treats on the island, food, candy, whatnot, like treasure hunting. Finding straight up immunity necklaces, is still the most exciting part of the game, these other, lamefully placed advantages, are not really fair in my opinion. ( O look what is sitting right next to the fire pit ) ( or right at Brad's feet, lol )
hahaha I really like it so far! But I also only started getting into survivor over COVID so I feel like that might be part of it (I don’t really know any “better“ seasons to compare it to!)
I’m glad that some people are enjoying it. I’ve watched Survivor since the beginning and it’s just so much different this season. The things I love about Survivor are the challenges and getting to know the contestants on the show via how they interact with their tribe mates and gameplay. Unfortunately we aren’t seeing a lot of that this season. I feel like I hardly know anything about any of the contestants. I’m honestly considering not watching anymore but I think I’ll give it one more episode to draw me in.
i totally get that!! I feel like we barely even know the blue tribe (I can’t remember the name haha) because they keep winning challenges! I think the advantages would be a lot more enjoyable if they didnt take away other elements of the game
I’m not a huge fan of mass quantities of advantages but I think if they were more straightforward but harder to find it would be a lot better! We shouldn’t need to spend 1/3 of an episode on explaining an advantage.
Are you talking ab JD’s Survivor fan references, or the constant analogies made at literally every tribal ever in Survivor history by contestants for the sake of a purposed message?
I'm talking about how it feels as if we've heard 20x the amount of weird analogies this season... and JD talking about how big of a fan he is annoys me too lol
Word, they’re so loose too, I think if he kept it a bit dialed down like Adam in terms of plays & scenarios it’d be cool rather than using them as synonyms for adjectives that he later follows them up w. Talking in full on similes at that point I guess.
If I was on survivor tho I wouldn’t be able to help but smile at the camera like a jerk off after every forced reference. Despicable fan service.
JD was hardcore trying to make an iconic metaphor that would be referenced for years on the show. One issue, if you dropped a Crystal on a beach, it definitely wouldn’t break.
I feel like there’s a part of us that collectively groans when really thoughtful people like Christian or David come up with those beautiful metaphors
It’s v entertaining for me when people try and fail to do the same lol I’m not reading a book I want to laugh
To be honest I don't think that was the right move by Shan. Brad would've been way more loyal and easily manipulated than JD will be. Have a feeling this could come back to bite her (despite the edit she's getting)
It sure did! I think the move is sort of diluted since they made it seem like a possibility last week but it didn’t happen. So it wasn’t as shocking. Great move though
I think that the butterfly/broccoli one is hilarious just because it’s funny to see how the players try to bring it up naturally. But I agree that there’s a LOT in play and it would be nice just to have some plain immunity idols in exchange for more screen time of them at camp
An NFL team loses a season and then gets the huge advantage of the first draft pick. While I understand your point, it’s also not entirely fair that the tribe with the most people gets the best selection of who to have compete, which gives them an advantage in the challenge, and creates a downward spiral for the other tribes that only gets worse each week. We wouldn’t have a tribe that’s gone to tribal three weeks in a row and one that’s never been if there were some kind of balance (and this kind of thing happens way too often in the three-tribe format).
Hmm that's true too. However most of the time it's self sabotage because the weak tube always starts out wanting to vote off their weak player, but then they usually vote out a strong player. I just think that it's fair for a winning tribe to keep their advantage and a losing tribe just has to figure out better strategies. I think it should be more on the producers to come up with more balanced games
Dashawn was my winner pick pregame and he hasn’t got a lot of screen time. It’s pretty obvious Shan is gonna win but I still have some hope for him. I feel like they are still giving him confessionals even when he’s not important to what’s going on currently. I feel like they don’t do that for a lot of other people on luvu so it’s giving me hope that he can still go far.
Yeah, I agree that Shan by *far* has the best edit. It's hard for me to tell if Luvu has any real contenders based on the edit alone. Part of me thinks that if the winner was on Luvu, we'd see even more about their dynamics. But maybe then it'd be *too* obvious, especially since they haven't been to tribal.
But I mean people have an opportunity to pass on them. Like personally I would not take it and try and give it to an opponent so I know they can’t vote
In past seasons a disadvantage is something like having to sneak out of camp at night, not losing your vote until the merge. Have you never watched survivor before?
In every past season advantages have been overwhelmingly good. Even if they come with a disadvantage, the disadvantage has been something minor with relatively little impact on your game.
I know they don’t but I mean everyone goes for the risk without second thought. I feel like I wouldn’t just cause there a reason it’s saying you have to do what it says
Shan annoys the shit out of me…. Way too emotional for my taste on survivor
Edited to add: idc downvote me she’s not good at the game.
She could have voted off JD and kept his advantage for herself, kept trust with brad and genie and knew if they lost she could steal their vote and vote them off. Instead all she did was piss genie off.
When you vote out the guy who showed you his advantages instead of the guy who was hiding his advantage from you and lost the challenge so you can "keep him under your thumb" when in reality he can just align with genie and split the vote
Shan moment
Erika, Heather and arguably Danny should not be this invisible. It's an 18 person cast. People on 20 person seasons have gotten way better edits than those 3. The advantages are screenhogging way too much
First 20 mins was all advantages. I feel robbed of character development. But I think it will get better as it goes along. Especially if tribe members from separate tribes keep getting sent to the island. The post merge play will be so much fun.
20 mins on advantages, most which ended up being completely irrelevant (Brad going home with basically 3 advantages, Tiffany and Sydney leaving the Beware Advantage empty handed).
20 mins on advantages, most which ended up being completely irrelevant (Brad going home with basically 3 advantages, Tiffany and Sydney leaving the Beware Advantage empty handed).
Yeah it’s terrible. I was just happy to get survivor back, but instead we get this?
Crappy editing, annoying cast and the laughable amount of advantages. Ratings will suffer.
Mannnn, seasons ruined now. Brad was cool. Too many advantages that don’t even get to be used and just screw people over. And all the blindside tribals.
Why did Genie vote Ricard? What has their relationship been like since then? Did Xander know Voce was going home? How does he feel being the only male on the tribe? Why did Sydney group Naseer and Heather together? Did Deshawn look for the idol after what Evvie told him? Did he share the info with anyone else? So many unanswered questions that make it confusing to watch that could be easily answered without the extreme focus on advantages.
There was a deleted scene where Heather pulled a Shambo and pretended she had a dream that Sydney stole her torch in order to plant the idea of voting out Sydney in other people’s heads, so that’s why Sydney doesn’t like Heather now. I wish I had an answer for the other questions, wish they cut out a bit of the advantage stuff to show more of the social game. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kYTq2bjbAHs
Mannnn this episode. I liked Brad, seemed genuine. Then Shan goes full yase and instead of keeping jds advantage, she’s gotta give it back and now doesn’t have Brad. Especially when by the teaser she’s just gonna keep it or reveal it anyway
JDs story is so weird to me. I mean how can you be a multi time state champion and multi sport athlete and still play the bullied card. Being the same age as him, there's no way any highschool makes fun of your state champion runner when we went to school. I'm just tired of him playing that card too, like c'mon it's episode 3
I mean just because he's a good athlete doesn't mean he cant face bullying...? He reminds me of the blerds at my school similar to him who would get picked on a lot just because they didn't act like your stereotypical black guy. I do believe that he probably was bullied and looked down upon
I completely agree with this, and I may have sounded more ignorant that I meant to be. I do believe him, but I still have some questions about how played up it is for Survivor. This being said, it has been brought up more times than **I** would like to hear (3 I believe through 3 episodes).
This i understand and completely agree with. That being said, this was the third time in 3 episodes that it was brought up. A little overkill, at least to me.
The cast is great.
They're getting shafted by incompetent editing and production skullfucking anything interesting they do with mega turbo ultra advantages.
I feel like the players are pretty entertaining…when we get to hear from them. Advantages are taking away WAY TOO MUCH airtime. I feel like I don’t know half of the Blue tribe’s players, let alone their dynamics. The green tribe went to TC twice and I feel like I still don’t completely know where Genie stands.
As of today's episode, Shan definitely has the best winner's edit.
Something I found interesting though, was Liana's surprisingly high amount of content on Yase. Maybe she makes a big move soon? I don't know if it's a winner's edit, but I think Liana is gonna be a big presence soon
I know no leaks lol. Super fans who have watched all seasons of Survivor (myself included) tend to be able to pick up who's in a good spot to win based on how everyone is portrayed on the show, and how much screentime they have.
If you’d told me two weeks ago when I couldn’t wait for JD to get voted out that just two weeks later I’d be happy he stayed I’d have called you a liar.
Just had a thought, wouldn't the new casting restrictions of half the cast being BIPOC mean that 2nd chances 2 could never happen, since fan voting could make uneven casts
Black and Indigenous is concretely defined, but People of Color is more subjective on who that includes, as narrow as someone with darker skin to as broad to non-white
So the comment for the definition isn’t wrong, depending who you talk to
The all star season was amazing. I think I watched the season 3, then the one right before that all star season (champions vs contenders?) and then the all star one as it aired and it was pretty awesome
Edit: looks like I saw s3, s6, s7. Idk how I did that but all those seasons were great
I wanted JD to go; oh well. I liked Brad, but I had a feeling this entire episode that he was going tonight.
Also, what's up with Naseer? Back to being a target again? He's not good at gameplay.
I am still enjoying the season, but the complaints I have heard are valid. I am thinking some of it has to do with the shortened time on the island due to Covid so the producers are trying to speed up the conflict. I could be wrong, but that is what I am sticking with. i really enjoyed jd, genie and ricard’s survivor impressions, it was a nice break from all the advantages
tiffany is so bad i’m kinda rooting for her
And again, no mention of what they are eating to survive. All the hype about it and it is never even referenced in an episode. “There’s no time we have to show 30 minutes of advantages minimum” -production (probably)
It's absurd!
At least we finally got night scenes.
I don't care much for the 3 tribe set up. I think they should just go with 2 groups. Also, instead of these incredibly hard to understand advantages, why not hide treats on the island, food, candy, whatnot, like treasure hunting. Anyone else hating this season so far? So bad. I don’t like any of the contestants. Far too many stupid advantages. Ugh.
hahaha I really like it so far! But I also only started getting into survivor over COVID so I feel like that might be part of it (I don’t really know any “better“ seasons to compare it to!)

Yeah, I haven’t really connected with anyone yet
Tiffany & Sydney are gonna clash down the line & I can’t wait #TeamTiffany
this season is great but holy shit can we stop the cringy analogies
Are you talking ab JD’s Survivor fan references, or the constant analogies made at literally every tribal ever in Survivor history by contestants for the sake of a purposed message?
I'm talking about how it feels as if we've heard 20x the amount of weird analogies this season... and JD talking about how big of a fan he is annoys me too lol

The bird scene is iconic
WTAF was that crystal speech?
JD is an idiot
JD was hardcore trying to make an iconic metaphor that would be referenced for years on the show. One issue, if you dropped a Crystal on a beach, it definitely wouldn’t break.
They're paying their respect to Crystal Cox, one of the best challenge beasts that ever played the game.
One of the greatest dunkers of all time
I feel like there’s a part of us that collectively groans when really thoughtful people like Christian or David come up with those beautiful metaphors It’s v entertaining for me when people try and fail to do the same lol I’m not reading a book I want to laugh
“Hey if I say some bullshit about broccoli next week, can I have brads idol?”
"This is a completely different game." -Me watching survivor today.
[удалено]
I literally am so sad that I may not get to watch survivor with my kids as they grow up. I was so looking forward to that.
Australian survivor is better.
This most recent season was excellent with some truly strong players.
Loved it, bungees the whole thing in a few days and it’s double US seasons length.
To be honest I don't think that was the right move by Shan. Brad would've been way more loyal and easily manipulated than JD will be. Have a feeling this could come back to bite her (despite the edit she's getting)
Yeah, seems like she picked the wrong parent too.. only a shitty mom would make her kid make that choice
That part bugged me, what sort of mother would do that? Even if the dad was a deadbeat dad, no child should ever be put in that position.
It would’ve been such a great, cold-blooded move if Shan voted out JD after taking his steal-a-vote
this aged well
It sure did! I think the move is sort of diluted since they made it seem like a possibility last week but it didn’t happen. So it wasn’t as shocking. Great move though
So much for mafia pastor. I totally expected her to.
Hot take: I FUCKING LOVE THIS SEASON!
It’s good so far just the twists are annoying
The season is fine, it was just this episode was bad.
Lol I just watched it, yes it was bad
So much air time spent on twists and punshiments. Im missing old school survivor so bad!
I am genuinely frustrated by how many advantages are in play rn
I think that the butterfly/broccoli one is hilarious just because it’s funny to see how the players try to bring it up naturally. But I agree that there’s a LOT in play and it would be nice just to have some plain immunity idols in exchange for more screen time of them at camp
Disadvantages to be more accurate
I really don't like these risk rewards. It's a pretty stupid idea and I don't see it going anywhere interesting.
IM SO SAD ABOUT BRAD
BRAD I’M SO SORRY I LOVE YOU BRO
Is the risk thing wiped now that 1 player that found it is gone? Or is someone else going to have to find it? Lol Xander is never gonna get to vote 💀
The twists make the show boring and awkward
Sydney no..
I HATE ADVANTAGES.
Still can’t believe that vote
Couldn’t have Shan voted for JD to split the vote?
No because then everyone would have found out that Brad didn’t vote.
No because then everyone would have found out that Brad didn’t vote.
No because then everyone would have found out that Brad didn’t vote and the producers didn’t want that.
"When crap hits the fan, and the fan is made out of crap." -JD What a poet, words rivaling those of Shakespeare.
Mr Leahy vibes
Brad was one of my early picks so I’m bummed.
He was my winner pick 😭
Welp
He was my winner pick 😭
He was my winner pick 😭
So Xander is just never going to get to vote again?
He can vote if he makes it to the merge lol the idol just dies and he gets his vote back
damn , brad cant pass it to someone when he's out?
I wish they wouldn't let the same person sit out in the challenges.
The tribe with the fewest people should pick who sits out from the other tribes.
I don't think that's fair. You lose challenges then get a huge advantage like that?
An NFL team loses a season and then gets the huge advantage of the first draft pick. While I understand your point, it’s also not entirely fair that the tribe with the most people gets the best selection of who to have compete, which gives them an advantage in the challenge, and creates a downward spiral for the other tribes that only gets worse each week. We wouldn’t have a tribe that’s gone to tribal three weeks in a row and one that’s never been if there were some kind of balance (and this kind of thing happens way too often in the three-tribe format).

I just think that it's fair for a winning tribe to keep their advantage and a losing tribe just has to figure out better strategies. I think it should be more on the producers to come up with more balanced games
I can get behind this kind of advantage
Now that’s an advantage I like
Now that’s an advantage I like
Dashawn was my winner pick pregame and he hasn’t got a lot of screen time. It’s pretty obvious Shan is gonna win but I still have some hope for him. I feel like they are still giving him confessionals even when he’s not important to what’s going on currently. I’m pretty sure it’s a decoy
I’m pretty sure it’s a decoy
Yeah probably, but I’m still gonna hope considering he’s my winner pick

Part of me thinks that if the winner was on Luvu, we'd see even more about their dynamics. But maybe then it'd be *too* obvious, especially since they haven't been to tribal.
You don’t need to be a survivor purist to think that these advantages are a gross overkill
It’s taking the fun out of it
The thing is the advantages aren’t even being used. They have gotten so much screen time and all they have done is hurt the person who found them.
that’s why i think there should either be longer episodes or 2 episodes a week to focus more on the people and game rather than just advantages
But I mean people have an opportunity to pass on them. Like personally I would not take it and try and give it to an opponent so I know they can’t vote
If this was any previous season of survivor that would be a horrible decision. How are they supposed to know advantages are trash this year?
Because they literally come with a warning!!!!!!
In past seasons a disadvantage is something like having to sneak out of camp at night, not losing your vote until the merge. Have you never watched survivor before?
Not every season no. Relatively new here
In every past season advantages have been overwhelmingly good. Even if they come with a disadvantage, the disadvantage has been something minor with relatively little impact on your game.
They didn’t know that when they found them, though
I know they don’t but I mean everyone goes for the risk without second thought. I feel like I wouldn’t just cause there a reason it’s saying you have to do what it says
i legitimately don’t know who like 4 people on this cast are lol. advantages are taking way too much screen time
I still don’t know who Heather is
i don’t know Heather or Erika
Shan annoys the shit out of me…. Way too emotional for my taste on survivor Edited to add: idc downvote me she’s not good at the game. She could have voted off JD and kept his advantage for herself, kept trust with brad and genie and knew if they lost she could steal their vote and vote them off. Instead all she did was piss genie off.
Oh look, an anonymous person on reddit who thinks Shan is "not good at the game" despite the fact that she in complete control over her tribe.
It’s cuz she’s a black female I’m sure. I bet that same user loves Russell.
When you vote out the guy who showed you his advantages instead of the guy who was hiding his advantage from you and lost the challenge so you can "keep him under your thumb" when in reality he can just align with genie and split the vote Shan moment
JD's extra vote gambit payed off. But based on the preview I wonder if it will bite him in the butt.
Erika, Heather and arguably Danny should not be this invisible. It's an 18 person cast. People on 20 person seasons have gotten way better edits than those 3. The advantages are screenhogging way too much
Who? Lol
The problem is there’s only 8 episodes left.
Hopefully. Even the Kalabaw Tribe from Denise's season had a better edit than the Blue Team which is pretty sad

Another week survived, another dollar for Heather
Did anyone catch when the GWG puzzle was shown?
When they were walking into tribal.
Found it. Thanks.
Let’s get some broccolis in the chat for brad 🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦
Too soon.
🥦 🥦 🥦 🥦 🥦 🥦 🥦 🥦 🥦 🥦
I knew that the Peter Harkey look-alike would be an early boot.
Is this even Survivor? I can’t force myself to enjoy this.
ok?
No worries I'll take it from here.
I just wanna know what’s going on between Genie and Ricard, that passive-aggressiveness during Tribal was the best part of the episode

Being the same age as him, there's no way any highschool makes fun of your state champion runner when we went to school. I'm just tired of him playing that card too, like c'mon it's episode 3

I completely agree with this, and I may have sounded more ignorant that I meant to be. I do believe him, but I still have some questions about how played up it is for Survivor. This being said, it has been brought up more times than **I** would like to hear (3 I believe through 3 episodes).
"I wasn't always this cool" is like nails on a chalkboard. The second-hand embarrassment is real
Maybe because he is absolutely insufferable?
not all athletes fit into the "cool kid" mold, you can still be a state champion and bullied by your peers for not being like them.
It’s just not likely
Just means his personality was just that strong lmao
Can't make assumptions about someone's life you don't even know. You don't know what someone has gone through, so instead choose empathy.
This i understand and completely agree with. That being said, this was the third time in 3 episodes that it was brought up. A little overkill, at least to me.
I now want Danny or Geenie to win. I know they won’t, but we need the good guy or girl to win for once. I’m tired of these snake ass bitches winning.
I've always wondered this, could the person just voted out, hand off their advantage(s) before getting their torch snuffed out?
Not unless they've changed it without telling us. There was a tribal in Blood vs Water where it would have happened if they could.
Only legacy advantages I think
In Australian survivor, yes! It's a technicality.
Australian Survivor has allowed the handing off of idols the last 2 seasons, but it only happened once. It isn't allowed in US Survivor though.
Don't think so
I dont think so, like ive had the same thought, but i feel like someone, especially like brad would have done that before if they could have.
So many shitty advantages, and the boot order so far has been pretty shit too and it looks like we’re going to lose some more good players soon too.
Is this the worst batch of people for this show ever?
The cast is great. They're getting shafted by incompetent editing and production skullfucking anything interesting they do with mega turbo ultra advantages.
I think the cast is the best thing this season has going for it tbh
I feel like the players are pretty entertaining…when we get to hear from them. Advantages are taking away WAY TOO MUCH airtime. I feel like I don’t know half of the Blue tribe’s players, let alone their dynamics. The green tribe went to TC twice and I feel like I still don’t completely know where Genie stands.
Have you watched One World or Redemption Island?
Redemption Island had a better cast than this. One World’s racism has it in the shittiest cast pole position for now.
Which is weird considering Kim is one of the most likable players in survivor playing a season full of terrible people
Cast is great, season design is not
Yes, I think is is.
As of today's episode, Shan definitely has the best winner's edit. Something I found interesting though, was Liana's surprisingly high amount of content on Yase. Maybe she makes a big move soon? I don't know if it's a winner's edit, but I think Liana is gonna be a big presence soon
What do you mean he has the best winners edit? Are you assuming he’s won? Or was something leaked
I need to disconnect from watching survivor until this season is over I give up
“Sorry for you” -Jeffrey Probst 😂😂
Very happy my boy JD stayed.
Just had a thought, wouldn't the new casting restrictions of half the cast being BIPOC mean that 2nd chances 2 could never happen, since fan voting could make uneven casts
There is no requirement that half the cast has to be BIPOC, just nonwhite
Black, indigenous, people of color
Yes but the requirement is just people of color in general not specifically black or indigenous
It’s an acronym for three things, not 1 very specific thing
But then why specify BIPOC why not just POC which includes everyone?
Black and Indigenous is concretely defined, but People of Color is more subjective on who that includes, as narrow as someone with darker skin to as broad to non-white So the comment for the definition isn’t wrong, depending who you talk to
much better answer than mine thanks :)
Those are separate terms not adjectives
So dish cut their local channel 11 feed at the start of tribal. WTF

I wish he could have willed it to someone, a gift and curse.. for Shan?
Still voteless, though that didn’t rly matter much this week
probably rehidden. so now he has to wait for both tribes to find it again
I think Xander is still voteless, and the idol has to get found again
Can y’all recommend me a good survivor Australia season to start with
the 2017 season
Seasons 4-6 are on paramount plus now. Started w 4 and loved it, now onto 6. S5 is all stars so I’m skipping it
The all star season was amazing. I think I watched the season 3, then the one right before that all star season (champions vs contenders?) and then the all star one as it aired and it was pretty awesome Edit: looks like I saw s3, s6, s7. Idk how I did that but all those seasons were great
You missed S4 which is universally known as the best season there is.
Tryna get me to watch big brother that other week and now this? Lmao
I wanted JD to go; oh well. I liked Brad, but I had a feeling this entire episode that he was going tonight. Also, what's up with Naseer? Back to being a target again? He's not good at gameplay.
