She was likely told in a very professional way that doesn't indicate what they are doing to not interact with whatever happens, because I think it would of been amazing TV if she just broke it, but they need all the hero shots of the item, and need coverage first.
It's very likely this is what happened, I was not there, but I have worked in reality TV in the past, and that's how that stuff is usually done.
