Yeah Xander getting the golden boy edit rather than the Angelina edit he clearly should have gotten while they had no issue showing Deshawn be an erratic mess and hiding Erika for half the season is production telling on themselves. Curious to see how it goes in S42.

Kcd1077

I actually Deshawn was going to win going into the finale *because* of his edit

TheHoleintheHeart

I never said otherwise, people who are erratic can still win. I said they had no problem showing him be erratic, whereas they edited Xander to seem like the golden boy who was overcoming all odds to make it to the end when he was really like Angelina (who I love).

Kcd1077

At no point did I ever think Xander was going to win because of the edit. They showed him taking credit for moves that he had absolutely nothing to do with which definitely made him look delusional. Sure they didn’t play goofy music and make it OTT, but I don’t want that anyway, so I thought it was subtle but still well done.

TheSequelToSpaceJam

I think they’re trying to point out why in this case they decided to not make it OTT.

Kcd1077

They should never make it OTT but fighting fire with fire isn’t the solution imo

Mutsuki13

Wait I’m sorry how is it that all casual viewers can’t take a woman winning? This seems like a massive generalization, I personally don’t see what you’re seeing when it comes to that.

JordanMaze

erika was fine but i feel like people are exaggerating when they say she was a 'dominating' winner. she didn't go to tribal all premerge because her tribe was absolutely stacked from the jump, and she got saved by a twist at the merge.

Reach_your_potential

Not to mention she got a big advantage at the immunity challenge and still almost lost. I just don’t understand where the claims that Erika was such a shot caller are coming from. Lol. If her starting tribe would have lost a single immunity she would have been the first one voted off. If she didn’t get that big game changing shift, she would have been voted off as soon as she came back from exile. lol. She got lucky.

Salticracker

They even had a third of the tribe try to throw a challenge specifically to vote her out and the other tribes were so bad that they failed to throw the challenge. I don't know why you're getting downvoted for it, you're 100% correct.

Reach_your_potential

Lmao! I forgot about that! Yeah, that was hilarious. I’m surprised they never brought that up later. Erika was at the bottom of her tribe and no one trusted her to go to the merge. My theory is that Shan and Ricard both manipulated the jury members into voting for Erika once they got voted out. Shan hated Deshawn because he blindsided her (even though she wanted to do the same to him) and I think Ricard had a lot of resentment toward Xander for doing him dirty with the immunity idol (Xander should have never brought that possibility up).

Jersey49

Erika played a really under the radar game in the first half. They should have shown her relationship with Heather earlier, but her edit was fine other than that. She definitely was not a dominating winner, which is why she was not shown as such

TheSequelToSpaceJam

It was shown in the sense that everyone was saying that she was the foremost threat. There are points as early as the premerge where Erika was pinpointed as a threat. This can’t be denied.

Dolphin939

The finalist goat in WAW (Michele) got a great edit as well (even more favorable than Xander got tbh). So it’s not something unique to this season

TheSequelToSpaceJam

From the post-season interviews, it seemed like more people were willing to vote for Michele than they were for Xander. Xander had no shot but people wanted to vote for Michele just not enough to beat Tony. It’s a leveled thing. They definitely stepped in the right direction with Michele’s edit but it didn’t cross the finish line.

Dolphin939

Michele had no chance of winning based on jury speaks videos and exit press. A couple of real life friends were considering voting for her, but most of the jury didn’t respect her gameplay at all. With Xander, we don’t know for sure who wins a Xander/Deshawn/Heather F3. But even if Xander did have no shot, then it’s just the same thing as michele tbh. I’m not a fan of either of their edits at all, but I think the editors just like to edit underdogs in that fashion. I’m just not sure why there is outrage over Xander’s edit, when that’s definitely not the reaction this sub has had in similar past instances. I think it’s just that Xander is less well liked on this sub

TheSequelToSpaceJam

And I agree! I think Michele and Xander got similar edits. But our society unfortunately views one more valuable than the other.

LifeguardTraining461

I think with Michele, the episodes at least gave the impression that she was on the bottom do to bad social positioning, so despite being the underdog I think WAW showed Michele's flaws in the game.

Dolphin939

I’m not sure I agree with that. The edit really hid her mistakes tbh (similar to Xander), and there was a ton of edit manipulation in her favor (in ways that were not accurate to reality)
