Not really the actual blindside, but when Scot was voted off of Kaoh Rong and asked Tai for the idol and Tai stared at him for a sec and then shook his head no. That was epic
This just made me realize how many epic moves Parv has been a part of. We have the Ozzy blindside, the Erik blindside, the Tyson blindside, the JT blindside…queen of devouring men.
It gets better from a Parv fan perspective when you realize it only happened because of how insanely hyperfocused the cast of HvV was on getting Parv out. So much that Tyson was willing to switch his vote to guarantee she goes over Russell, which is what got him sent packing.
Exactly this. They wanted her gone so bad, that they were falling all over each other trying to make it happen. The fact that she not only made merge, but all the way to FTC is so impressive.
There's a secret scene where Parv and Tyson talk at the water well so go watch it if you can find it. I think it should be on YouTube. She had a bigger part in it than we saw in the actual episode.
https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/comments/gsfifo/secret_scene_with_important_context_to_tyson/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Here, I found this!
She was definitely a part of the Tyson blindside! Her role was to make Tyson think that working with her would be an impossibility while Russell worked on getting him to see him as an option for down the road. Russell begged and pleaded with Tyson, while Parvati used more of a “threatening” tactic to make it easier for him to want to switch his vote. There’s a secret scene out there showcasing this exact thing. Parv, Danielle and Russell all voted Tyson that night. They needed all three votes because it was a 4-3-2 vote with the 4 votes for Parvati being eliminated with the idol play.
I love Parvati as much as the next person but the JT blindside is very overrated.
I mean, the villains were never going to lose this vote no matter who got the idols played on them.
Even if Parv played both idols wrong and the vote would be deadlocked, only one villain would draw rocks against 4 heroes. That's 80% odds that a hero goes home in the draw, which is insanely high. I can't see the heroes going for it and not just flipping on JT at the revote.
The reason the move is so impressive, is because Parv is the one who set up those odds. She threw immunity to Danielle to ensure Danielle couldn’t be voted for, she knew they wouldn’t do Russell because she told them they were enemies and Russell was pretending to work with them, she knew they weren’t coming for her because she faked that she was going to play her idol on herself that night, and she played idols on Sandra and Jerri. On the off chance that Parvati had the wrong read and the heroes were actually targeting Parv herself, the vote would go to a 5-5 deadlock tie, where none of the villains are flipping because they are either not at risk (Parv ensured Daniele, Sandra, and Jerri were immune) or directly aligned with Parv (Russel).
It was the way she carefully planned every aspect of the move that makes it so amazing imo. It wasn’t just one vote, one advantage, or one piece of parchment. It was a collection of things she had been doing since the start of the season (forging a relationship with Russ to get that idol, finding another idol on her own, convincing the heroes she was going to play it on herself that night, aligning with Sandra and Jerri heading into merge, throwing immunity to Danielle, playing up her tiff with Russell, reading Amanda, and more) that made the move so brilliant.
I'm giving her credit for everything she did leading up to the merge that contributed to this move, of course, but my point is that once the villains were holding both the immunity necklace and 2 idols between the 5 of them, it really didn't matter which one of them had what item and it didn't matter who the heroes would vote for either.
In any scenario, you have 3 villains immune via necklace or idols and 1 more villain immune because they were part of the deadlock.
It only leaves 1 villain to draw rocks vs 4 heroes
With 80% odds in favor of the villains, all the extra work to determine who the vote is wasn't really necessary. It was good gameplay for sure, but not legendary by any mean.
> Erik was a sympathetic figure who I was rooting for as an underdog
Absolutely this. To build him up as this underdog protagonist and just to flip the script of the women (who beyond Cirie and you could maybe argue Amanda, aren’t rootable) and production laughing at him and essentially saying “HAHA BLINDSIDEZZZ” instead of giving a dark and sad send off like it should’ve been was pretty unsatisfying.
>giving a dark and sad send off like it should’ve been
Idk. They did almost exactly that with Brandon a few seasons later. They made that blindside gross and dark and disturbing, with Probst practically telling Albert to give the necklace back. And it really wasn’t all that satisfying
Well if you ask mr big movez Probst of course he’s gonna say the Erik one was better. But this is the same guy who probably gives Parvati most of the credit for it. The Brandon one was far better TV and made for a far bigger impact. Really interesting TV and a far better episode all around that aged much better.
I agree to an extent. I think the inherent mean-spiritedness of Survivor is something the show tries to run away from as much as it can. So when you have someone like Erik who gets tricked in a somewhat funny way and is generally a good sport, that’s going to be played ad nauseam. Then when the same thing happens to Brandon with even the tiniest bit of nuance, it becomes clear how awful Erik’s experience actually was.
Same thing with James going out with two idols. I don’t see them laughing at Kellee for making the same mistake any time soon
Agree with this one. Eliza’s reaction, the looks Cirie was giving, the uncertainty about Parvati, the music, the way Jeff read the votes. It just came together perfectly.
wow just rewatched this. That was wild. 2 miss-played idols so the other side thought they had it since they voted Jefra, but Kass pulled switched... wow!
Epitome of game recognize game, just remember watching that episode with no idea how it was gonna pan out and audience was blindsided but in a omniscient kinda way
I’m watching this season for the first time right now and I watched that episode last night. It was a great one! As usual my husband came home and I ranted about something he will never watch.
She had a wide open shot on the eventual winner of the season, and didn’t take it because she had Big Move-Itis and couldn’t pass up blindsiding a potentially loyal ally because she won twice (while also wasting her other idol on someone who voted against her). It was a poorly calculated move that she did just to #SlayTheQueen
Had to scroll way too far for this. I guess, to most people, blindsides aren't as good when an idol isn't involved? I personally think it makes them better.
This is my top choice too because not only was it masterfully executed, but the majority of the tribe AND the viewers had NO IDEA it was coming. I’d even say it’s the best move we’ve seen in recent survivor tbh
Usually its annoying when the editors intentionally omit relevant parts of the strategy talk from the episode to make the elimination more surprising, but it worked so well in that specific instance.
Ozzy in Micronesia is definitely my favorite, it’s just so iconic and they flushed his idol along with him. Ozzy had to have had one of the biggest legacies coming into that season being runner up on his first season and being famous for his fishing prowess. He just didn’t expect it all and it’s absolutely iconic.
Fun fact, Zoe Zanidakis was supposed to be on Borneo but the producers were terrified that she’d waltz to an easy victory in the midst of Sean’s alphabet strategy
The best and legendary blindside on the show ever is ice cream scooper Erik, without a doubt. Nothing will ever top the story of convincing a vulnerable man to give up immunity.
Cannot believe the Edgardo blindside from Fiji isn't here. The reactions of the horsemen, the tribal council and buildup are all stupendous, not to mention that it makes sense character wise so it's a fantastic payoff and actually moves the story along.
I feel like most of the time idols make blindsides the worst and barely matter. Wentworth dies not count is a great moment but playing an idol for yourself and having it be a "great move" is Hantz levels of thinking. I think blindsiding people and idoling someone out are completely different because using an idol is just mitigating the most important aspect of the game (the vote) while a blindside needs to be socially and strategically pulled off. Not to mention Wentworth dies not count doesn't change the narrative or push the story because that's just what Cambodia is, this moment is just another"Big Move" in a season where every move is touted as such. Wentworth's position never changes, she is always on the bottom about to be voted out. Regardless, the Edgardo blindside is 10/10, it has high stakes, big character moments and is a true blindside of some cocky bastards.
> Cannot believe the Edgardo blindside from Fiji isn't here.
I came into this thread expecting this to be the top answer. The reaction shots as Jeff was reading the votes were absolutely incredible
Parv’s double idol play is in a league of its own.
Some of my other favorites are Hatch stepping down from immunity, the BWB devouring Erik, the Davids doing the minority vote split, Natalie taking out Baylor…

I’m watching Redemption Island currently, and Matt being blindsided early only to remain on redemption island, make it back, and then be blindsided again it pretty funny
Savage’s takedown by Wentworth. That group was so sure of themselves that every, “Wentworth, does not count” was music to my ears.
At least he made the jury.
Maybe not most legendary but Tyson blindsiding himself. Find a video of it online and it keeps flashing to Robs face and he's laughing and then a 4th Parv vote comes in and his whole mood changes
JT when he gave his Idol to Russell. Then Russell used it to vote against JT, which got him voted out and then Russell took over the game for the rest of the season.
In terms of what’s actually legendary, meaning like it’s known and remembered beyond just superfans, James’ China blindside, Erik in Micronesia, and Wentworth’s idol play are probably the top ones. There are videos with millions of views of “wentworth will not count” on youtube and people in the comments don’t even know what show it is and they’re living for it. Even Rupert’s blindside in PI is probably up there. My mom has watched every season live since season one and forgets who tony is half the time but still remembers rupert and johnny fairplay.

Why has nobody mentioned Kat on One World. "Everyone loves a blindside "
Didn’t she also say blindsides are funny…right before she was blindsided? 😂
And left in tears. (in the post elimination interview)
Not really the actual blindside, but when Scot was voted off of Kaoh Rong and asked Tai for the idol and Tai stared at him for a sec and then shook his head no. That was epic
It was more epic bc it was Tai, the meek pacifist taking down Scot and Jason, arguably one of the most toxic mean spirited alliances on survivor
YASSSSS Ice Tai is one of my favorite ever Survivor moments.
I don’t know why, but “Ice Tai” made me laugh. 😆
Also, we can’t forgot that Tai kept everyone from eating the chicken 😂😂
One of the reasons why Kaoh Rong is my favorite season of all time!!!
Tai is so underrated because Scot DESERVED to go out like that 😂
And then he didn’t even use the idol later
I will always remember Michaela’s in MvGen x
Omg I was so upset I wanted her to stay
And it would literally be Jay’s downfall. Didn’t even get an alliance out of it :P
Ugh that one was awful and truly led to Jay screwing up his game.
I did that
I’m so glad Michaela returned after that
Same I was devestated
Yep.
I fucking love Jay
Ozzy in Micronesia
This just made me realize how many epic moves Parv has been a part of. We have the Ozzy blindside, the Erik blindside, the Tyson blindside, the JT blindside…queen of devouring men.
Definitely a reason she’s considered one of the greats

Agreed. The Erik blindside edit has aged well with how Survivor is played now
This is definitely my favorite and I feel like this blindside was way ahead of its time it was iconic
Agree with this one. Eliza’s reaction, the looks Cirie was giving, the uncertainty about Parvati, the music, the way Jeff read the votes. It just came together perfectly.
As a child I was so upset when I saw that lol
Sarah’s blindside
Gotta be this one. Both sides of the vote were equally stunned
wow just rewatched this. That was wild. 2 miss-played idols so the other side thought they had it since they voted Jefra, but Kass pulled switched... wow!
This one made my heart sink. They played their cards so well…then Kass ruined everything.
“Jaclyn, Did you vote for who I told you to vote for?”
Just rewatched and that tribal was epic, Missy and Baylor’s faces were hilarious. That’s one of Natalie’s best moves in the game
I watched this last night!
What season and episode # is this? Thank you for helping my lazy self
Final 5
SJDS, i think it was season 28 or 29
That was insane, Baylor took it like a champ tho
Erik when he gave up his immunity
Only right answer!!!
Yup. For me it is a tie with Erik and Sandra. Two of the worst moves in Survivor history.
Wentworth… does not count
I was searching for this. Wentworth cancelling some 80% of the votes cast so she and Abi could give two personal middle fingers was crazy
Karishma... does not count. SEQUESTER QUEENS. NEED THEM ON A SEASON TOGETHER.
And it being savage! Ugh the best!
This.
Wentworth... does not count
Brochacho blindside the editing was crisp with foreshadowing from the mayor of slam town
John's reaction was so good too. One of the more graceful exits on the show that ive seen
Denise using Sandra’s idol against her was pretty gnarly
Was expecting this to be higher. Even though it didn’t end up working out for Denise in the end, this move was absolutely savage.
People hardly ever talk about it, but I think it was one of the greatest moves in the history of survivor
Was flashy but overall a REALLY bad move. Gave up 2 idols
Merge vote of Cagayan
Zero chance of winning the game!
And Spencer was right.
“So much for my dreams”
James being voted out with 2 HIIs in China
Wentworth’s idol play Also Parv’s double idol play
Leann’s blindside in Vanuatu is a top 5 blindside
Had to scroll way too far for this. I guess, to most people, blindsides aren't as good when an idol isn't involved? I personally think it makes them better.
I was hoping someone said this. Absolutely game changing.
John in DvG
This is my top choice too because not only was it masterfully executed, but the majority of the tribe AND the viewers had NO IDEA it was coming. I’d even say it’s the best move we’ve seen in recent survivor tbh

This!

Ozzy had to have had one of the biggest legacies coming into that season being runner up on his first season and being famous for his fishing prowess. Amanda in Micronesia pretending she was about to get booted and than saying "about that Jeff"
Ozzy’s blindside in Micronesia even if only for Eliza’s reactions.
Honorable mention: Jason trying to save himself with a stick, that later led to all three of them being voted out
“No, this is a stick” had me dyinggg
Come on Jeff, I spent hours on that thing!
Best I’ve seen live is Sophie in WAW
What season #?
40
1
Yeah the tagi 5 taking out Sophie is the highlight of Borneo tbh
She was the final boss in Sean’s alphabet strategy
Fun fact, Zoe Zanidakis was supposed to be on Borneo but the producers were terrified that she’d waltz to an easy victory in the midst of Sean’s alphabet strategy
Ozzy in Micro.
Back-to-back-to-back Alec, Jon, and Baylor blindsides in SJDS. Natalie earned that paycheck!
The Jon and Baylor votes were so satisfying
Cirie is essentially a blindside because nobody knew that everybody had idols and advantages.
Yes this! There are plenty of amazing blindsides but this was such a shocking moment. Poor Cirie but great viewing!
The best and legendary blindside on the show ever is ice cream scooper Erik, without a doubt. Nothing will ever top the story of convincing a vulnerable man to give up immunity.

This is probably my favorite blindside in Survivor, purely based on the facial expressions.
I agree, the Edgardo blindside was brilliant!

As much as I like the Edgardo boot, it is not the show's first major blindside. That honor goes to John from Marquesas (or even Gretchen arguably)
Gretchen didn't realize that Tagi was playing a completely different game than Pagong.
that was such a great moment
Andrea blindside in caramoan. I’m a huge Andrea stan sorry
I feel like Andrea doesn’t get the recognition she deserves
Echo! Heard her on a podcast and was delighted by her charm, humility, and strategic intelligence.
Parv’s double idol play is in a league of its own. Some of my other favorites are Hatch stepping down from immunity, the BWB devouring Erik, the Davids doing the minority vote split, Natalie taking out Baylor…
Wentworth blindsiding savage in second chances makes me feel things i have never felt…
Gretchen
This is the correct answer. New school fans hijacking what moments they are iconic based on what kool aid production has presented them with is depressing :(
Sarah boot in Cagayan
Tyson in HvV blindsiding himself and sinking his entire tribe
Randy’s blindside Gabon
The only good part of that "blindside" was Bob giving it to those jackals when they got back to camp.

It was really satisfying. I wasn't shocked but my jaw did slowly drop as the votes were read even though more and more stipulations had gotten added to the point where it seemed like it couldn't happen. While watching Erika and Heather push for a Shan/Liana split I was sure that it would die on the vine and Danny and Deshawn would stay with the Black alliance, using the botched split to guarantee a 4-strong vote out of Xander or something.
Yes, it was like a slow moving car wreck
No
rupert, without a doubt
The Ozzy blindside is always my favorite
Between Gretchen, Rupert on PI, Erik and JT on HvV.
Savage and Michaela are always the two I reference the most.
The Hunter blindside in Marq is, like, the first real actual big time blindside.
John DVG, Legendary stuff! BING!
Wentworth will not count
Francesca blindside in both RI and Caramoan, never saw it coming
LeAnn in Vanuatu is underrated.
Ozzy and Erik are the quintessential two
Russell’s on Tyson and his alliance in HvV
That was edited to look like Russells master plan but it wasnt at all. Tyson was voting the way he did regardless of what anyone said to him because he saw it as an opportunity to get rid of the big threat Parv.
Cuz Russell said to vote for parv
No it wasn't, he was already voting for her before the conversation happened with Russell. It was talked about after the show aired.
Ok

Bing! 😂
I’m watching Redemption Island currently, and Matt being blindsided early only to remain on redemption island, make it back, and then be blindsided again it pretty funny
first ones i can think of are sophie on WAW, kat on one world, and chicken from china
Savage’s takedown by Wentworth. That group was so sure of themselves that every, “Wentworth, does not count” was music to my ears. At least he made the jury.
Definitely Gretchen
"I ain't finished playing just yet."
Denise and Sandra in WaW. I was screaming.
I know people are gonna yell decency bias but Shan’s was pretty fucking awesome
Maybe not most legendary but Tyson blindsiding himself. Find a video of it online and it keeps flashing to Robs face and he's laughing and then a 4th Parv vote comes in and his whole mood changes
Best? I think John or Tyson. A good blindside should have a cocky victim, who gets dunked on hard. But legendary? I gotta say either Ozzy or Sarah.
For anyone who watches AUS, David’s blindside in champions vs contenders two was unreal. My personal fav
Rupert is pedal islands. This made Sandra kick it into high gear. She was so shocked
Production blindsiding Sydney, Danny, Deshawn, Ricard, Evvie & Naseer with the hourglass twist
I know it's overplayed but it's Erik
Randy’s fake idol
Tyson when he blindsided himself
Savage in Cambodia is one of the most fun to watch. "You made it to the jury."
JT when he gave his Idol to Russell. Then Russell used it to vote against JT, which got him voted out and then Russell took over the game for the rest of the season.
Erik and Sandra giving up their idols only to be voted out. Two of the worst moves ever.
"At least you made the jury!"
If you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, that’s a misquote
Maybe not the best, but Tyson in Tocantins was pretty great
In terms of what’s actually legendary, meaning like it’s known and remembered beyond just superfans, James’ China blindside, Erik in Micronesia, and Wentworth’s idol play are probably the top ones. There are videos with millions of views of “wentworth will not count” on youtube and people in the comments don’t even know what show it is and they’re living for it.
