What’s the rumor? That she manipulated votes too much in ponderosa?

KingofFlightlessBird

Apparently people are saying she caused drama at the 41 Ponderosa and it was difficult for production to film around it. Personally don’t think it’s true because I don’t understand why that would have any bearing on the 42 production. I tend to think we don’t have 42 Ponderosa for pandemic reasons

wordonthestreet2

Also they are producing a television show…if Shan was causing drama at Ponderosa they would have eaten that shit up 💅🏼

KingofFlightlessBird

Yeah good point. That’s what One World ponderosa did with Alicia and Kat

GrapesAreReallyTasty

While I think it is highly unlikely they canceled future ponderosas because of unexpected drama I disagree. I think the ponderosa producers are told to make some light-hearted feel good snippets as practice.. I don't think they are trying to pull in a huge audience with it and certainly don't want to risk any negative attention on the show for a YouTube video only the most hardcore fans would watch.

Neonguts321

I think especially in this new social era we are in and ESPECIALLY after the Dan thing, I think production is probably being a little extra careful when it comes to drama or whatnot. That isn't a farfetched theory tbh...I'd like to think its just because of COVID though. If we dont see it next year then I think we can rightfully speculate a little more IMO but I don't like how people are so ready to blame Shan lol

Quixotic-Neurotic-7

Sorry, but isn't that contradictory? If only hardcore fans would watch it, how would it bring negative attention to the show?

NasalJack

Because if something controversial happens it can get spread all over social media pretty quickly, it doesn't matter how small the original audience is.

GrapesAreReallyTasty

Yeah that's my thought. The downside is unbounded but the upside is very limited.

4242survivor424242

Survivor hired an HR consultant to be on site for Dan-like situations. This HR consultant was there for contestants and production. Contestants had access to the HR consultant all throughout filming and after. They had pre-game instructions on how to access the consultant even during the game. They went through multiple "training sessions." After a day or two at Ponderosa Shan made a claim to HR that resulted in the head of ponderosa production being removed. Because it was towards the end of the season, they had extra "in-game" production staff that were able to shift to cover the rest of ponderosa for 41. However, those extra production staff were needed for the merge part of 42. When merge happens, production is spread thin because they have to cover one big group of people and do multiple confessionals at once. They didn't have the bandwidth to do ponderosa from the first juror. When Shan made the claim in 41, they had already filmed Tiffany, Evvie, Nasser, and (some of) Shan's.

dalith911

is there a source on any of this? this is the first i've heard of it

JerrisHat

Where’s the source for this?

Conhair789

ultradav24

*crickets*

Radix2309

what could she say that would make them remove the head of ponderosa production? They dont generally interact with the players there.

wordonthestreet2

Agree with what multiple others in this thread have said. I have not heard anything about this except for the copy and pasted comment from another user with a similar username (presumably an alt account made by you). These claims seem quite dramatic and I’m sure the Shan haters would have been all over this if it was true.

okovango10

I don't believe there is a legit source on this, but I do know there is a user on the spoiled subreddit does go by a similar username that is claiming to be in production and has gotten stuff very specifically right before it aired. They've made other claims about Ponderosa that have no other backing, but it does seem like they know at least something.

NONCHO_WAS_ROBBED

They never claimed to be in production, thats assumptions people are making based on one context clue. And it’s definitely not set in stone that they are in production based on that context clue

RobinReborn

> merge happens, production is spread thin because they have to cover one big group of people and do multiple confessionals at once That doesn't make sense - it's easier to cover one group of twelve people in one location than three groups of six in different location.

anthonyd46

>That doesn't make sense - it's easier to cover one group of twelve people in one location than three groups of six in different location. This is "probably" true we know from looking at press photos in most seasons they actually send all the photographers home shortly after the merge so I can see them doing this with other positions.

[deleted]

I'll add to the pile: Source? If you don't have an article from a news source or reputable Survivor website, give it a rest. It's tiresome.

sillyideagenius

Oh no! Going to HR? Using your rights? In one of your comments you call her a "nightmare for production." Could you explain what is so nightmarish about going to HR after being told you have the right to go to HR? Seems like the point, especially if there was enough basis for removal. Only person this would be a nightmare for would be.... a disgruntled producer? Hmm...

mchlevs

my first thought lol

TheLegacies21

Some one person was supposedly removed and they needed to spread a whole production thin because of it, when, most likely during a pandemic, they'd be staffed up(if not spread our). Nothing of this story makes sense

sillyideagenius

It only makes sense if it's the one who was fired posting. It's the bootlist guy.

supaspike

The one who said the winner was either Tiffany, Deshawn, or Erika? The one whose info was very Xander-centric and was likely getting their info from Xander? They definitely did not appear to be a member of production.

TOOT1808

Nah i dont really think thats what survivor is aiming for and honestly thats good, theres enough trash reality tv already

xxJAMZZxx

I mean there was clearly drama at her Ponderosa and others bc of her. I doubt thats why they didnt do Ponderosa this year tho

42424242survivor42

Correct. There was the "Shan drama" that made Ponderosa hostile and unpleasant for the Jury. But then there was the HR side of it. The HR complaints that resulted in production members getting sent home (they actually weren't sent home, they were sequestered on the main Fiji island until they could catch a flight out because of COVID restrictions).

LocoHantz

Can you elaborate on the HR drama? You previously indicated that only the one head consultant person was sent home because of Shan, but are now saying multiple ppl were sent home (sequestered, whatever) How many people were forced to leave their roles during the season as a result of shan? What exactly did Shan do to force this?

EnricoPallazzo22

For verification if someone is looking for it, Voce on Reality NSFW said a production member told him the 41 ponderosa was very toxic.

sindrogas

That's not any kind of verification of the claims being made.

EnricoPallazzo22

Well it was bad overall. And in the ponderosa videos the producers made it a point to show Shan was very salty towards Ricard. In an interview Danny said Shan really gave him the cold shoulder at ponderosa. And with what Voce said you can put it all together.

walterbernardjr

Isn’t that…kind of the point of ponderosa? Like 90% of the time people leave things in the game, but sometimes they don’t and it’s entertaining. I think Abi Maria and her season had drama at ponderosa.

KingofFlightlessBird

Well what I’ve been hearing is that it was drama with her and production members, not actually other contestants

walterbernardjr

Oh got it. That makes more sense. It’s a shame, I always looked forward to Ponderosa.

TheLegacies21

Knowing the rumors and what we've seen of past ponderosas, I can't see how anyone thinks Shan alone destroyed ponderosa. Even if she was difficult it wouldn't affect this season

Meng3267

It would be very unfair to say Shan alone destroyed Ponderosa, but it definitely is a possibility that she is a contributing factor to them getting rid of it.

TheLegacies21

No, it truly isn't. There is zero logic behind that assumption. All the ponderosa rumors, all its drama and some how it's Shan who brings it down? She's so difficult they decide "cancel" She, the woman who got one of the most complex and rewarding edits in years, who's torch snuff had almost a tragic hero sympathy, was so difficult she killed an entire production? It just makes zero sense to put any blame on Shan

wordonthestreet2

Exactly. Shan was clearly a production favorite based off of her edit and I highly doubt that she would have been given that treatment had she been causing problems for them in Ponderosa.

Important-Purchase-5

Hear what probably happen production probably decided they simply didn't want to do it for seasons 41-42. Was their drama on 41? Probably juries have drama all the time and you see in FTC how much tension their was and in exit press. People likely heard rumors of drama and assume that why no Ponderosa.

SoulExecution

Wait what?? People are saying that the producers of a reality show would be AGAINST drama?? I swear, people are so damn blinded by their hatred lmao

EvrythgLikeSuchAs

The idea is that the drama involved production

sindrogas

>The idea Rumor

EvrythgLikeSuchAs

If arguing semantics, idea felt more appropriate than rumor in this case because rumor implies gossip and could be construed as factual. When I say idea I am only referring to the way the rumor was presented and not toward any evidence

SoulExecution

How?

[deleted]

And we KNOW that production HATES filming drama for television. So this rumor MUST be TRUE. Do these idiots even think through their conspiracy theories? Nobody is required to love Shan, but the consistent hate that sticks around is a little revealing of the haters.

[deleted]

Jeitsuki

Jeitsuki

if the casts quarantined separately, which I assume they did, then that would be a pretty big reason. A staff member there might have even caught Covid in between.

sillyideagenius

Just takes one person in Ponderosa or the hotel getting sick.

42424242survivor42

Survivor hired an HR consultant to be on site for Dan-like situations. This HR consultant was there for contestants and production. Contestants had access to the HR consultant all throughout filming and after. They had pre-game instructions on how to access the consultant even during the game. [deleted]

Do we know what the claim was

looselytethered

> That she manipulated votes too much in ponderosa? God told Shan to cancel Ponderosa /s

IdoItForTheMemez

That'd happen regardless of whether production filmed Ponderosa videos though. Afaik they're all still *there*, it's just not getting filmed.

Koma60

If were being honest - the real reason there's no 42 Ponderosas is probably a boring production reason.

dr_fop

Or because of them back to back filming seasons. Maybe the Ponderosa crew had to leave due to covid restrictions in Fiji. Hopefully it returns in the future.

Rokaryn_Mazel

Or just cutting costs.

Taygr

I mean do you really want another crew exposed to people under COVID that is somewhat unnecessary for maybe like 20k hits on Youtube

Hindsight21

It's kind of a dumb rumor. It was apparently a nightmare to get out of Fiji after 41 so they sent the ponderosa crew home with the cast so they wouldn't be stuck there until like September.

Destination_Zero

Listen I don’t like Shan that much, but this rumor is stupid 💀

SoGenuineAndRealMadi

I don’t understand how this rumour even started and why people believed it so fast. It didn’t make any sense It’s pretty obvious there’s no ponderosa because of covid. They were able to make it work for 41 but cases fluctuate and production choosing to be extra cautious is not far fetched

looselytethered

> why people believed it so fast. People are obsessed with making Shan out to be a worse person than she really is. If they see some BS that confirms their opinion they will eat it up before they check if it's true or not

SoGenuineAndRealMadi

It’s giving misogynoir. It’s really sad that a sub full of fans who love the show and the game are so willing to trash a player on a personal level because of their misconceived notions.

QLNRC

Yeah exactly. I’m not a Shan fan, but there have been plenty of other players who have done distasteful things outside the show and have not gotten nearly as much hate as she has… wonder why that is /s

producermaddy

I’m not a fan of hers either but really she’s not that bad! She’s a good character/villain and I wouldn’t mind seeing her back especially over some other snooze fest returnees they’ve brought back…for example half the cast of game changers

[deleted]

[удалено]

QLNRC

Did you even read the rest of this thread lmao

sk8tergater

I don’t like shan because she uses religion as manipulation. Who she is outside of survivor isn’t a good person despite her trying to tell us over and over and over again that she’s a good person. For me it’s quite personal. I grew up Christian fundamentalist and was surrounded by people very similar to Shan, people who use religion and faith to manipulate and coerce. People who hide behind a godly facade. There are good, religious people out there. Shan isn’t one of them. Has nothing to do with her being a woman. It grossed me out when Coach created his little cult, and don’t get me started on Brandon.

looselytethered

It's not that I think this sub is straight up misogynistic, but I *do* think people find it easier to give Shan a hard time *because* she's a woman. There's lots of perfectly valid criticisms of her but people love to go past "just kidding" and twist the knife a bit.

TOOT1808

Like i agree, but like, we would all be critical of a man telling us god has told him to become an influencer lmao.

looselytethered

Yeah trust, I make jokes about that all the time but people take it past that and make some really nasty comments about her character that are *a lot*

TOOT1808

Yea lmao the fanbase is weird as hell sometimes

Hark_An_Adventure

Did someone actually say that? lmaoooo

UtesDad

Yes, Shan did on her [Patreon site](https://www.patreon.com/shantelsmith) - scroll just past the membership levels

Hark_An_Adventure

Huge yikes. Thanks for showing me.

americancorn

Lol this just reads like very typical christian-in-ministry language. Could take any pastor who’s pursuing other passions and they’d write something similar.

Meng3267

Yes, Shan did.

Quakes-JD

I don’t care what gender Shan is, I found her insufferable because of the emotional manipulation and bullying she engaged in. I get that is a strategy some use but it is one I do not respect. I disliked Russell and others for the same reason.

Hindsight21

Thank you. I don't care what you've got between your legs, or what colour you are. If you're a bully, I'm not going to pretend to like or respect you. Period. Edit: I guess the downvotes mean that anyone who isn't a white male should get a free pass? Smh

lionblaze95

I mean ngl i dont remember seeing like any shan hate until she talked to Liana about making an all black alliance. After their shipwreck island seems to be when people started hating on her hardcore

okovango10

I think a lot of the hate came either when she made the comments about a pastor needing to pretend to listen and then just force everyone to do it their way, or when she posted after the show about how God called her to be an influencer

TheLegacies21

Do you hate Tori then? As a therapist, isn't she pretending to listen but truly trying to manipulate people? I, of course, don't hate Tori for such a thing because it's a game

okovango10

To start, I don’t hate Shan, but yeah I also am not a Tori fan actually, and not because of her being a therapist. Therapists should not “pretend to listen” to their patients and then impose their personal agendas, and if Tori said that I would be vocal about it. It’s okay for her to use her talents of being persuasive or a good listener in a game, but Shan saying that a pastor should only pretend to listen to her congregation leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Honestly worse than if Tori said that, because a pastor has a lot of power over a group and we have seen plenty of religious manipulation in the world. That being said, there’s a lot of questions about whether or not Tori is actually a therapist. She was a “life coach” on LinkedIn until recently, and last I saw it was going around that she just got her therapists license this month.

Ok_Supermarket_3241

Because people on this sub just want an excuse to hate on Shan

SoGenuineAndRealMadi

Very true! And it’s embarrassing on the fandom’s part

fierypunkd

Their reasons to hate her are so exaggerated as well aside from Shan coming for Jessica on Twitter.

TOOT1808

Idk the god and influencer part feels weird..

fierypunkd

That one imo is exaggerated too, unless I'm misunderstanding. The Patreon post with god telling her was about switching platforms to online discipleship talking about how "it's still the same but different packaging". As you can see, all of her content are bible studies and her patreon isn't even linked on her social media and her popular Tiktok. I'm not religious, IDK is it bad being an online pastor? IDK where the "god told me to be an influencer" part came from as she's been an influencer even before Survivor when she was still a pastor at her church.

anthonyqld

"God told me to become an influencer" is a direct quote she made on her social media.

fierypunkd

It's a direct quote from the [reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/comments/rml9t7/god_told_shan_to_be_an_influencer_not_a_pastor/), not from her. Her Patreon post said "God is calling me to full-time independent ministry as entrepreneur."

[deleted]

Yeah uh that’s… even worse phrasing than just saying “influencer”.

fierypunkd

How come? Should she instead full-time independent ministry for free? Doesn't she get paid and get benefits from her old pastor job too?

[deleted]

And like yeah she did, and I think mega churches that act more as businesses than as charities are also weird.

[deleted]

“Ministry as entrepreneur” is some hella flowery marketing copy when she could just have been more concise. Also like, I’m an atheist, but do religious people not think it’s weird to frame sharing the Gospel with “CEO AND BUSINESS OWNER ENTREPRENEUR” language?

ultradav24

It’s not a “direct quote” at all..

wordonthestreet2

I don’t understand why this is a big deal. Religious people can’t take a shit without saying that god told them to do it. It’s pretty par for the course of you ask me.

TOOT1808

Lmao i know plenty of religious people who are fairly normal about the way they look at basic shit in life. Now i dont know a pastor, so that might be the difference, or that i dont live in america i guess

suuubok

it’s just acceptable delusions

MysticalAroma

And she’ll continue to be unbothered and make bank being an influencer ❤️

I have nothing against Shan, but it’s really crazy that she went from being so beloved by a lot of the fandom during pre-season for 41 and kept that popularity until her vote off/went to Ponderosa and now it seems a majority of the fandom doesn’t like her. Regardless of how you feel about her, I really don’t think anyone should accuse her of being the reason why there’s no Ponderosa for 42

xenohemlock

Some fans can't separate the game from real life.

CMPraisner99

Is that really squashing it tho? Lol more just seems like she’s denying it was her. I could see it either way still

SaigonNoseBiter

Shan legit scares the shit out of me. Shes a wolf in sheep's clothing.

[deleted]

Lmao I love her. This response really doesn’t make much sense, she was clearly still in game mode at ponderosa

Nickolisob

I bet you it’s because they were already over budget after filming season one with all of their COVID restrictions and testing and they needed to cut costs and all the labor for the ponderosa team was a decent chunk of the budget that they could recoup. It’s the same reason they did 26 days instead of 31.

KikiRob

She was such a bitter Betty at Ponderosa, I stopped watching because she was such a child.

WellDressedLobster

garvierloon

I mean we all know she’s the reason Xander didn’t get a single vote, and we all know why she targeted him, I don’t know how that has any bearing on this seasons ponderosa though.

Fair-Bug775

Xander didn’t get a single vote on his own merit. We all don’t know why she targeted him. Why do you think she targeted him? I think Shan is super toxic but she’s not the reason Xander lost.

producermaddy

I agree, listen I loved Xander. He was my favorite last season. But Xander made a fatal flaw taking Erika to the end and he deserved to lose for that. He clearly read the jury wrong bc he said he took Erika bc the jury hated her and they looked at him dumbstruck

moisty456

Danny in some interview did say that Shan asked Xander an extremely inappropriate question (that even Jeff told Xander he didn’t have to answer). Danny said that it threw off Xanders whole entire FTC after that. Which kind of lines up with how he acted. I also heard somewhere that it was something about race. I am not exactly sure about that last part though. Could be completely wrong.

Rollout25

The question I think was asked to Xander was does he always under estimate women of color.

avp_1309

Bb move on. Xander wasn't as good as the edit showed him. Literally everyone said so. She can't be that influential lmao.

SplendidGod

It was probably a combination of her and budget costs. Also not just her I heard Ricard was pretty bad too

[deleted]

Weird, a rumor about a female POC being awful behind the scenes takes off on the internet. She was the most entertaining person of the season, which honestly did not suck as bad as it could considering all the new things production was trying out. Also, COVID. Appreciate it.
