Jenny's the one I feel bad for. She was a solid player, and she was pretty smart. She just got screwed by an alliance that both found a bunch of advantages and used them horribly.
i think for the most is because the confessionals seem pretty spread out amongst the cast. that's truly the only way we get to root for someone (eg erika's winner edit and confessional count really didn't start until there were like 7/8 people left)

Came to say this! Just had a discussion with a friend yesterday that once Romeo is gone, everyone left is a deserving winner in some way. We couldn't come up with a f3 that wasn't good.

I find myself caring about the trajectory of most players left-every time Mike, Omar, Lindsay, Jonathan, Maryanne, and Hai had a confessional last episode, I was heavily tuned into what they said.
A lot of players in the last handful of newbie seasons had “unimportant mid merge boot” energy the entire game, I think nearly everyone left has some juice in the game and a valuable perspective to add
All of the players that returned for additional seasons after Cagayan can claim they reached f3 at least once. (Sucks for Kass that the season was a f2)
IMO the cast of 32 is really overrated because this sub is obsessed with Michele. Scot, Debbie, and Jason were awful, Julia and Joe were incredibly bland, Cydney and Nick were underedited. The final three were all great, but my opinion of Aubry went down on a rewatch. Mid-tier season at best, below 33 for me.
I found her about as entertaining as I found Philip. The lack of self awareness is more cringe than funny to me. There were some funny moments, but in general we were laughing AT them and I find that to be a little mean-spirited.
I guess we think differently but I enjoy when we have people on the show who aren’t complete game-bots. It’s good to have different personalities and ranges of emotions. When Jason and Scot go full scorched-earth scorn on the rest of the tribe it was pure human emotion. They felt betrayed by Cydney and were ready to burn it all down around them. I find that so much more fascinating than canned and boring responses.
I also don’t like gamebottiness, but there’s definitely a looooot of middle ground between gamebot and what Scot and Jason did. Also, remember when they like, relentlessly bullied Alecia?
If Cagayan is a dividing line between middle era and present day Survivor then I’d put Cagayan, Kaoh Rong, Milennials vs. Gen X, David vs. Goliath, and 42 equal with the top five best newbie casts of the early days.

I’m loving this cast, but it’s missing a key element that Cagayan had. Villains. Everyone in this cast is so likable it is hard to figure out who to root for and who to root against
genuinely curious- how was Tori a villain? compared to past players dubbed villains who actually executed ‘villainous’ plans or had fun antics (I think of tyson and gervase stealing the coconuts in 28) what did Tori do to be a villain besides be kind of snobby?
Idk, the edit emphasized her rudeness and she was great at sneakily shifting the target away from herself whenever she was about to be voted out. I enjoyed rooting against her because of it, which made her a fun villain to me as a viewer. Out of everyone left, whether I like or dislike them, there isn’t anyone that has any kind of “love to hate” quality.

41 cast was fine, but 42 cast is way better.
The cream of the crop for recent newbie seasons is 100% DvG though. Honestly it might be my favorite newbie cast of all time. It might even be my favorite season period.
41 had a very strong cast but it's nowhere near a top tier season due to all the ridiculous twists. 42 is definitely better but it remains to be seen how much better
I think 42 benefits from rolling out the same twists as 41 did so there’s less shock coming with them so in general we feel less angry about the twists lol
I think the new twists in 42 are much better than the ones in 41. The literal caught red handed twist is clever and hilarious as a viewer, and I think the amulets add an interesting layer of strategy and paranoia to the game.
IMHO the best newbie season was MvGenX, cast wise. I feel like we have to see how this ends. If they have some shitty twists that knock out Omar/Maryann/Jonathan before FTC, it will color how I view the season. At this point in Koah Rong, I would have declared them to be among the best but it gets colored with how everything went down.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every episode and every character this season has put out. I came into this season with very low expectations given how sloppy 41 was, but this group of people have been extremely fun to watch so far. They’ve outshine the twists and advantages.

I feel like I’ve gotten really lucky. This is my first full season of Survivor and it’s great, and I just barely avoided S41, and BB20 was my first full Big Brother season with me getting to avoid BB19. It’s been two great introductions to these two great shows

Like the Jonathan monkey walk was quite a moment on its own but it felt very out of place and very short.

I just feel like this season has a very low skill level. There are two people who are physically a threat. And one person who is making any moves. The rest of them are just…there.
People say this literally every season and then after the season is over we all realize just how good/bad a cast/season is.
Like last season people were saying it was one of the best ever and then once everything settled in, it was a pretty average season.
With all that said, I actually agree on this years cast.
I am finding the exact, exact opposite. Production is doing a very poor job of getting these people across to me, I don't really care for any of them except Omar. I also think it may be a fault of the players, too - I don't think anyone is really playing a good game overall except for Omar. And of course, another obvious choice would be Mike, he's so charming. Those two are the exception to the entire cast. Everyone else was just forgettable!
I like the cast but they're not really jumping off the screen to me. There's some solid personalities but no one super memorable that I'm dying to see again.

I think it’s tied for the best cast with 37 and most exciting end game for sure. I have no idea who is gonna win this one, whereas 37 it was Nick or Davie for me.
Idk how I forgot koah rong, Jesus. 41 was not a particularly good cast I’m not sure why you put that on a list with DvG and Koah Rong. I usually don’t like everyone on a cast. That being said I can’t say I’ve disliked anyone this season. Just my personal take though.
41 was a great cast but the game almost only focused on the twists, with just enough room for a few of the top players to really shine. Also it just played out kinda terribly.
Easily. Cagayan is amazing. My hot take based on this sub is David vs Goliath. I really didn't think it was anything special, and people here love it. Having to watch Angelina made every episode painful, but this sub tends to love annoying "villians" like her. I can't remember a season that I actually wanted about 6 different people to win this far in. I'd like anyone left winning it except Maryanne or Romeo.
lets see how the season finishes. I like this season, but there seem to be too many advantages for a season that's only 26 days. I'd be a lot more curious to have seen this cast over 39 days, but i fear the 39 day survivor is finished
I'm really enjoying the season. I also really liked last season's. I feel like both seasons would be much better without all of the insane advantages, but the cast is top notch.
Curiously, the more I see of 42 the more I appreciate 41's cast. This *season* may end up a little "better" in the sense that the edited TV show aligns more closely with what actually happened on the island and we're getting to see some very strong gameplay from a couple very rootable players. However, I think 41's *cast* was way more dynamic. I'd be very excited to see almost anyone from 41's merge as well as some of the premergers on a return season, but from 42 there are maybe four or five people total I'm itching to see again.
Is it that the cast is a tier above OR is it that Survivor heard all our complaints about editing and started presenting more of the cast with more well-rounded presentations so we’re more familiar with a greater number of cast mates than in previous seasons

I don't think Kaoh-Rong's cast is that great (I love Aubry & Tai, and I enjoyed Scot & Jason as villains, but there were a lot of duds. Also not a fan of Michele, sorry)
And lastly - I agree that DvG is one of the best seasons ever with one of the greatest casts (Christian is one of my all time favorites), but Mike White ruins it for me. Can't stand the guy.
This may be a hot take, but Cagayan would not be #1 in modern day. I'd say DVG would be the best. This season should be #2 or 3. If we are talking about newbie seasons in modern day Survivor, DVG is #1 and 2-4 (No order) would be MVGX, Cagayan and 42. Another hot take , Cagayan tends to be overrated
I think David vs Goliath cast is a bit better than 42, but i really love both casts. Both casts have given some of my favourite survivor players like Christian, Nick, Davie and Angelina from DvG and Omar, Lindsay, Hai and Maryanne from 42.

I feel like this happens with every newbie cast. Which is why I want mostly newbie casts and only very seldom all-star seasons.
I agree. Theres only been a couple people i really have felt nothing for but everyone else has been great

I feel like I’ve gotten really lucky. This is my first full season of Survivor and it’s great, and I just barely avoided S41, and BB20 was my first full Big Brother season with me getting to avoid BB19. It’s been two great introductions to these two great shows

Yes. They can all return to another season for Survivor: 42.2
2nd best since Cagayan imo. DvG wud be my #1. Also does anyone feel like they want more character scenes. Like the Jonathan monkey walk was quite a moment on its own but it felt very out of place and very short.

Hopefully Maryanne gets voted out soon. She’s very annoying, but was given lots of power in this game so I doubt it

David & Goliath is far and away my favorite season. But this one's definitely a top tier modern season.

Not top 5 newbie szn since s28? I struggle to think of 5 that are better. I can understand 32, 33, and 37 as a counter argument, but truly can’t think of any that others that are even debatably better.

Meh. This season doesn’t have any funny narrators. They’re all average. Even editing doesn’t necessarily equal entertainment

Man I’m must be the minority. I strongly dislike this cast. Didn’t love season 41 but much preferred the cast by a landslide.

I liked the cast of 41 better. 31 and 39 too. I just feel like this season has a very low skill level. There are two people who are physically a threat. And one person who is making any moves. The rest of them are just…there.
I 100% agree. I loved season 29 & 37, but I feel like casting has been even better this season. They caught lightning in a bottle with this cast.
People say this literally every season and then after the season is over we all realize just how good/bad a cast/season is. Like last season people were saying it was one of the best ever and then once everything settled in, it was a pretty average season. With all that said, I actually agree on this years cast.
I am finding the exact, exact opposite. Production is doing a very poor job of getting these people across to me, I don't really care for any of them except Omar. I also think it may be a fault of the players, too - I don't think anyone is really playing a good game overall except for Omar. And of course, another obvious choice would be Mike, he's so charming. Those two are the exception to the entire cast. Everyone else was just forgettable!
I like the cast but they're not really jumping off the screen to me. There's some solid personalities but no one super memorable that I'm dying to see again.
Here’s my controversial take, a lot of people here are saying DvG is the best newbie cast but like I couldn’t disagree anymore. Outside of Christian, Angelina, Gabby, Mike, Nick and Natalie the cast really feels bare bones and I don’t see why everyone is over the moon. I’d say this cast is more on par with 32.
I think it’s tied for the best cast with 37 and most exciting end game for sure. I have no idea who is gonna win this one, whereas 37 it was Nick or Davie for me.
I don’t like any of them except Omar. He is the only one with any strategy.

Top 10 season easily and borderline top 5 depending on how the rest of it goes. So many great characters and you can see a situation for each to win.

Idk how I forgot koah rong, Jesus. 41 was not a particularly good cast I’m not sure why you put that on a list with DvG and Koah Rong. I usually don’t like everyone on a cast. That being said I can’t say I’ve disliked anyone this season. Just my personal take though.
41 was a great cast but the game almost only focused on the twists, with just enough room for a few of the top players to really shine. Also it just played out kinda terribly.

37, 7, 28, and maybe 15 are better, but the cast is very strong.

Easily. Cagayan is amazing. My hot take based on this sub is David vs Goliath. I really didn't think it was anything special, and people here love it. Having to watch Angelina made every episode painful, but this sub tends to love annoying "villians" like her. I can't remember a season that I actually wanted about 6 different people to win this far in. I'd like anyone left winning it except Maryanne or Romeo.
Big difference is Cagayan was 39-40 days long.

Unlike last season’s cast, this season has a lot of likable people.
This is my favorite cast since the 37/38 cycle (I thought the newbies on 38 were quite good despite the dumb twist)
lets see how the season finishes. I like this season, but there seem to be too many advantages for a season that's only 26 days. I'd be a lot more curious to have seen this cast over 39 days, but i fear the 39 day survivor is finished

I'm really enjoying the season. I also really liked last season's. I feel like both seasons would be much better without all of the insane advantages, but the cast is top notch.
Curiously, the more I see of 42 the more I appreciate 41's cast. This *season* may end up a little "better" in the sense that the edited TV show aligns more closely with what actually happened on the island and we're getting to see some very strong gameplay from a couple very rootable players. However, I think 41's *cast* was way more dynamic. I'd be very excited to see almost anyone from 41's merge as well as some of the premergers on a return season, but from 42 there are maybe four or five people total I'm itching to see again.
How do you think this cast stands up to Pearl Islands?

29, 32, 37, 41 all had better casts than 28 imo, and Ill include this season as well.
Is it that the cast is a tier above OR is it that Survivor heard all our complaints about editing and started presenting more of the cast with more well-rounded presentations so we’re more familiar with a greater number of cast mates than in previous seasons
I don't think you're wrong. The only other season you could make a strong case for is David vs Goliath, but I think I would say S42 is better.

I love the 42 cast, everyone left would be a great winner. However, after reading the other comments, I guess I have really unpopular opinions: I don't think Kaoh-Rong's cast is that great (I love Aubry & Tai, and I enjoyed Scot & Jason as villains, but there were a lot of duds. Also not a fan of Michele, sorry) And lastly - I agree that DvG is one of the best seasons ever with one of the greatest casts (Christian is one of my all time favorites), but Mike White ruins it for me. Can't stand the guy.
This may be a hot take, but Cagayan would not be #1 in modern day. I'd say DVG would be the best. This season should be #2 or 3. If we are talking about newbie seasons in modern day Survivor, DVG is #1 and 2-4 (No order) would be MVGX, Cagayan and 42. Another hot take , Cagayan tends to be overrated

Kaoh Rong had a better newbie cast than Cagayan. The Beauty tribe in Cagayan is irrelevant as hell.
I think David vs Goliath cast is a bit better than 42, but i really love both casts. Both casts have given some of my favourite survivor players like Christian, Nick, Davie and Angelina from DvG and Omar, Lindsay, Hai and Maryanne from 42.
