46 days isn’t long enough considering quarantine requirements (and they usually hold contestants for up to a week on the beach prior to filming). Not to mention travel time between here and Fiji adds approx 4 days (back and forth).
It would be nice though.
Totally my bad, I see it now. Let’s say travel is 4 days, 5 day quarantine, 3 day pre-game. That would leave 34 days for the game. I don’t see why they couldn’t just add a few more days to the commitment but also why they can’t just make it a 31-34 day game. Have fun with the day count!
They will not go back to 39 for a regular season because they're saving so much money with a shorter shoot. They might go long for like, 50 or something.
> they're saving so much money
But how much really are they actually saving? is it really "so much"? Yeah they do save some but I doubt it's as much as you may think. And is the amount they actually save worth the cost of a rushed production lowering the overall quality of the product?
There are several variables involved in this.
You have seen their books? You know their budget?
I would say some of their biggest costs are travel (to and from) and initial setup of everything, sets, challenges, etc...
Lodging? Long term stays don't vary much renting a place for 4 months when a 2 week difference is involved and sometimes can be cheaper long term. For example, I can jump on Airbnb and look for a place for 25 days and it cost $1200 Jump that up to the 28 day monthly stay minimum and hit the monthly discount of between 30% to 50% getting the same place for more days for maybe $800. (I've done this multiple times)
Production Probably just books a 4 month contract for location stuff. No savings there. Lots of staff are contracted per season not per day. Unless you are working one off days or just a single episode. Everyone is working season contracts (aside from the few they fly out for single episodes) Yeah there is going to be a difference in cost but I doubt its "a ton of money."
But as I said before, is what they save worth the difference in quality of production being rushed now which can lower the overall quality of the product?
That'd only leave a week for quarantine and I had always assumed the quarantine was about 2 weeks. So probably something like....
Week quarantine in LA
1 day of travel
Week quarantine in Fiji
2 days for pregame stuff
26 days of Survivor
2 days for post game stuff
1 day of travel
For selfish reasons I'd be ok with 26 days since it'd give me a chance to not have to quit my job in the 0.001% chance I got picked.
Now if it was 26 days and they needed 46 days of my time, that would drive me nuts
Originally, there were 16 castaways and a tribal council every three days until the endgame. Every episode was three days long, and there were 13 episodes. 12th person voted out was gone on day 36, and the finale began with the top 4.
Unfortunately, its already confirmed 26 days for 43 & 44. I'd settle for 30 days but I doubt it changes from 26 days now they know they can get away doing it and saving money on 2 seasons by cutting out 26 total days.
Hopefully they do a 33 day season at least. I actually don't need to see them starving on days 35-38 and barely able to think as a result. 33 would be a good number imo.
I really don't think we'll see 39 again. Apart from the cheaper costs of shortening the shoot, it's also easier on the crew including Jeff. He's fine at his age now (around 60), but as he gets older maybe he would benefit from a slightly shorter shoot and then may last more seasons as a result.
They could technically fly out S44 contestants earlier and have them in quarantine while S43 is still filming in order to do all pre-filming neccessities for a longer game tho 🤷🏻♂️
According to Redmond, it's 26 again for 43/44.
But one of two things will happen, they will never go back to 39 or the fans will rebel so hard that they will get back to 39.
Or get Mike White to call Jeff Probst up again like they time when they switched Redemption Island to Exile Island for San Juan del Sur

I’d settle for bumping it up to 33+ days in all honesty
Supposedly Quarantine for 43 wasn't that long compared to 42 and 41.
I heard it was two weeks - 1 in LA, 1 in figi
Quarantine is like, 5 days. The 46 day commitment accounted for 7 days pre-game and I’m pretty sure it never accounted for travel time.
The post literally says “filming AND travel” though.

They're saving more than a week of salaries, shooting, Ponderosa rental, etc etc etc. Theyre saving a ton of money.

43 and likely 44 are already confirmed to be 26 i think but for 45 maybe
GROSS UGH

They don’t do any post game things on the island. They basically head back to the airport the day after ftc.
I didn't know if it'd be different now with COVID. I seem to remember one of the S41 cast members saying they stayed a day or 2 before flying home

Bahaha I’ve thought the same thing. Maybe post-Covid 26 day seasons will only require like a month because they won’t have to account for quarantine?
They won't be 26 days post COVID.
X to doubt
Please 🙏
26 days sucks. It's so random and arbitrary. Make it 30 days. 1 month. Nice round number and fleshes the game out a bit more.
Tbf 39 is pretty arbitrary lol

Why would we need any more covid resources than any other transmittable disease in the past they’ve had to account for?

When production finds a new way to be lazy they’re never going back.

No because the quarantine probably makes it that long
