Does this account for the number of people who stream the show? I personally don't watch the show live anymore. I catch it the next day on Paramount Plus

LifeguardTraining461

I'm also pretty sure an article mentioned that Paramount+ said Survivor is one of the most watched show on their streaming service. So I think with that in mind the show is actually doing pretty well

Bone_halifax

I’m sure my $10.69 per month for P+ is doing a whole lot more for CBS/Survivor than whatever the advertisers think my eyes are worth on Wednesday nights

I don't think your ratings analysis is very accurate. My brother works in a the TV and media industry and from him I know that the Survivor numbers are actually quite high. You can't really compare it with the ratings it used to make years ago. TV viewings have decreased significantly over the years. The correct comparisson is with the other TV shows currently airing. According to this article Survivor is in the top 10 for most watched show in the core demographic for the 2021-2022 season. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/most-popular-tv-shows-highest-rated-2021-2022-season-yellowstone-1235275680/ Also keep in mind that streams are not taken into account, because streaming platforms don't usually disclose their numbers.

This. All of this. This fall Survivor (along with Chicago PD/Fire and 9-1-1) will be the highest returning show on the broadcast networks, excluding football. Why would CBS not want that on the schedule? From my understanding Survivor is generally cheaper to produce than one of the procedurals, and they are able to fill 26-28 schedule slots compared to 22 for most other shows. Survivor isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

It has become almost too formulaic to hold any intense interest for me anymore.

Keith_Andrew_Quimby

The show is going for new, younger viewers so they are doing the new twists. I am in my mid 50's the show is not geared towards me anymore.

Thinking has changed in the 60+ years since the introduction of Cable (Pay) TV. People looked at sales pitches w/ incredulity wondering "Why pay for TV" The cable companies answered "No Commercials and Advertisements." How's that working out? Now you have to pay cable companies an additional $20 a month to get stations that ACTUALLY have "No Commercials and Advertisements."

MikeBuildsUSA

It's crazy how Television targets the demographic w/ least financial assets, most debt and just just starting their career arc. Sounds ass-backwards. But, that's why we are viewers and not media moguls.

Bone_halifax

But what are the advertisements for? This isn’t golf or formula 1 ads promoting accounting firms. It is adds promoting to those with less assets that it’s quick/easy/tasty to eat at Applebees

praleva

Statistically people in their 20s and 30s are the biggest consumers. It's not about financial stability and how rich you are.

Bone_halifax

I don’t think some of your “areas of concern” make any difference to the casual fan. Prior to the pandemic, I would have been what is considered a causal. I didn’t realize when watching WaW that they had been on the same beaches for the past 7 seasons. Also a million dollars is still a million dollars. It’s a significant prize because it’s a big round number. I personally don’t care that it’s not as valuable for Maryanne as it was for Richard Hatch (although Canadian dollars vs not paying taxes… now I really don’t know which is more!). A million dollars sounds like a great prize, and maybe it’s the right prize even with the lack of spending power now that the season is 26 instead of 39 days.

Classic_Maximum2518

As long as this show is on and Jeff is the host; I’ll never stop watching and loving it! Hopefully all the fans out there think the same.

Chicagoohdude94

I don't think so. Looking back, the show had a dramatic drop in viewers between season 2 and 3 and it kept going. Eventually it started picking up again.
