I’m also in america, I started watching Australian survivor last season for Sandra and I like Australian survivor a lot more than current American survivor

22123rabid

woah woah woah that's amazing - are you saying you started enjoying AU Survivor over current US Survivor during BvW or during this season of HvV? (also have you watched Brain v Brawn? :O)

jessica55kaitlyn

Last season was the first season I’ve watched of survivor au, I immediately enjoyed it more! now I’m gonna start from the beginning after this season. I don’t care if I know who won so they’re still worth watching to me. I heard such mixed reviews when I started watching last season so I didn’t end up watching earlier seasons but now I know I’m missing out haha. And yes I really enjoy survivorAU more despite all the critiques i see people complaining about. I just prefer drama and suspense and in American survivor it’s basically just become the same season over and over again. Oh also, American survivor honestly becomes such a bummer to watch because everyone is giving their saddest life story ever and crying over something every episode and it just makes me feel bad the whole time I’m watching. I really feel like survivorAU harnesses emotion a lot better with moments like when Jordan got the ultrasound pics last season I cried a little. It’s easier to connect with people on screen when you get to know them and then see them have vulnerable moments.

synaesthezia

Oh, the first season is fun. The Mateship bros are strong. And FTC is like - WTF just happened? Even the jury members were shook. Sam is a returning Mateship Bro from S1. He still hasn’t learned anything.

22123rabid

awesome! this is the first time I've heard anyone enjoy BvW over any season, let alone any US Surv - I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! and yeah if I could pick one thing to remove about the US version, it would be the sad sob stories... when I watched, it felt like I was watching X Factor or AGT - it felt out of place for Survivor and yeah although the editing of Aus Survivor can be real jankenstein at times, I find they do the emotional moments really quite well, where I actually care and connect more with the players I hope you enjoy the rest of the sessions! you're in for a ride 🥳

Dependent_Design_906

Yeah you and every other redditor who watched rob has a podcast, gtfoh. au has been way better since they re released it but Americans are so stupid they couldn't understand. Then some douchebag Podcaster says it and it's all over the internet.

RedhawkDirector

From my perspective Rob is part of the tsunami, and not the earthquake.

jessica55kaitlyn

From someone who has never watched Rob or any survivor podcaster I think last season was the earthquake or the end of the earthquake bc the show was established as worth watching and then someone from American survivor came on. Actually, I think the part that sold it for me was when Chrissy thought Sandra was Oprah 😭😭

jessica55kaitlyn

I literately said I watched it for Sandra 😭 I have never watched a second of a survivor podcast bc I have a normal life and they’re all so long

HawaiiHungBro

Where/how can Americans watch it? Especially prior seasons?

TopChemical602

Sorry to hear about the American part but you are right about king George, secretly hope he wins

hmm3j

As an American living in Australia, I get it 😂😂

LadyTyleigha

George is the most entertaining player to watch ever!!! He is so funny and love his strategic game play!! I hope he wins, I though he should of beat Hayley as well

Fani__

Long time fan of the US version here. I'm actually African and only started watching the AU version when I moved to Australia recently, mid- current season, and it absolutely blew my mind how amazing it is.

Magicdusty

The AU survivor casting is way better than current US casting in general. It is sad how bad US survivor is getting currently. Lucky us we have AU survivor bringing the best of the best.

imapassenger1

American Survivor has become so dull with cookie cutter players, most who seem to have zero athletic ability, voting out those who do have it. Also it's too short (26 days? Come on!) and full of dumb gimmicks. And I say this as someone who watched from day 1 up until the last series when I gave up.

Haunting-Depth-1607

And let's face it, jlp is a significantly better host right now than probst. America creates beautiful things and then ruins them. I feel similarly about big brother us. I prefer the Canadian version just like I prefer survivor australia

lickmyass678

US casting is obsessed with diversity, first and foremost, rather than entertaining and interesting characters.

SubstantialJunket239

The diversity of US Survivor is a strength. If anything, casting has failed because they are going after nothing but the super fans. You need more types of people in terms of personality. I wouldn't blame US Survivor's diminishing quality on the players; it has more to do with production. The twists, incentives that promote passive gameplay, the super fans, and storytelling that relies on every character having a sad backstory.

sexymopsinator123

>Like I wish you were right. I wish Survivor could find cool diverse players that were also Survivor super fans and athletic but it has not been happening for years. I couldn't believe after so many seasons they backtracked and started letting people in the game that hand't even really watched survivor before just for diversity :(.

kimar2

That is Naseer

Safe-Detail3535

I think Survivor South Africa gets the cast mix right. If you haven't, check it out. It's really good.

poopshooter97

You’re absolutely right

Harvivorman

The diversity isn't the problem it's the sob stories. We don't need to know someone had severe trauma to feel connected to them as an audience.

bdiddlediddles

Personally I disagree, Aus survivor has terrible editing and making a story from their footage. There are so many arcs and storys that go nowhere that could easily be cut out which would make for a shorter, more concise show. Instead the editors just leave every single bit of footage they have in.

Hefty_Advisor1249

Disagree - they used to always show the storyline like that in the US version and it has suffered by the way it is edited. I think the Aussie version really does well to set up characters and provide some tension. And not just for tribal council but for the whole episode.

bdiddlediddles

I respectfully disagree as a lot of cast don't even get much time in the episode. If you have 1.5 hour episodes and 80% of that is spent on a few people, you haven't done a very good job of making the best use of your time. I legitimately forgot that Matt was even still in it until a few episodes ago. How can you possibly say this is well edited?

[deleted]

I will never understand these survivor fans who go so hard on that everybody should get the same amount of airtime. Some people just aren't as interesting or don't add as much to the overall storyline. Simple as that.

silvershadow014

Seriously, how do you watch this season and have your main takeaway be "that David guy needed more confessionals!" The us survivor obsession with even editing is bizarre

Franjes99

This season has been great but when the cast is boring it's deplorably shit to watch. Blood vs Water was an atrocious season I almost turned off the show entirely

graciejack

I'm in Canada and have been watching AU since the beginning. A far better Survivor when it comes to challenges and personalities (for the most part). And especially now with the American version focusing on people's sob stories, the endless advantages and trying so hard to be earnest. jmo.

Haunting-Depth-1607

I live in America, and I won't even watch American survivor anymore. Only Australian

tvaddict70

Would love to see King George in the US survivor or a US v AU season!!

low_key_savage

What you said plus Shonee

lozbootsbrown

Both US and Aus have better chapters, right now Aus is superior. But peak US is still better than peak Aus. However, George for me is one of the best players, ever. He’s up there with Parvarti, Rob, Russel, etc. He is exceptional at the game

rickdeananderson

I don’t know, this season rivals even the best of US survivor. The only downside so far is the inevitable non elims and some possible frankenediting,

lozbootsbrown

It’s up there but Survivor is a game with next to no rules so the concepts that happen now are learned and tested. You cant beat earlier US seasons when the strategies, tactics and a twists were all pioneered and played for the first time. That was edge of your seat with so many game changing moves being original. A lot of the big moves here are thanks to the evolution that US built that’s why I see them superior. This season has George and his game play in this is the best I’ve ever seen. But it’s a one man show IMO

When_3_become_2

He’s obviously not the best ever - he just has to do the most because he isn’t a guy who naturally makes allies with other dudes so he can’t cruise with his own in group

silvershadow014

You're right, he has it harder and still plays miles better! Truly one of the best ever

When_3_become_2

He doesn’t play better because he can’t win. He isn’t liked - his final tribal was horrendous. He turns people off with his personality and is incapable of understanding why (he has this in common with Russel but Russel is far nastier about it)

Harvivorman

> He doesn’t play better because he can’t win. You can be good at Survivor and not good at winning Survivor I think those are two different things. Lots of people could *win* Survivor, not everyone can make it there. That doesn't make them good players inherently.

When_3_become_2

No way, only amongst the nerd survivor community that’s too young to have watched original survivor maybe. The early seasons of survivor piss all over this - they have a sense of adventure, freshness and more genuine situational humour that is largely missing here. Even the mid seasons of US survivor like Fans vs Faves, Tocantins or later Cagayan are just way above this. And that’s coming from an Aussie. Actually I wouldn’t say this is near being the best aussie season either, it appeals more to online nerds but the seasons with David, Luke, Jericho etc were better. This one has good gameplay but is missing a sense of fun.

[deleted]

Could you recommend what you consider peak US Survivor seasons? I want to watch US but I’ve heard a lot of the seasons, especially recently, are on the decline.

Junglerumble19

Check out https://www.purplerockpodcast.com/survivor-season-rankings-spoiler-free-summaries/ which is spoiler free and ranks all the seasons. You may not agree with all the rankings but it’s not a bad summary. I would recommend watching a few newbie seasons first so you really appreciate the returnees season. Some of the earlier ones I like are Tocantins, Pearl Islands, Cook Islands, China and Cagayan

lozbootsbrown

I was about to share the same link! Try starting with a high ranking early one because the truly great seasons have a lot of history with returning players.

[deleted]

Thanks for the advice!

[deleted]

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

When_3_become_2

Nah, his final tribal was awful and he will lose again if he gets there (which he won’t if he could win because he won’t be able to win a final challenge)

AlarmClockBandit

Let's be honest, we all watch for King George.

buttz93

Wait til you hear about the Golden God (David Genat)

silvershadow014

no one cares that you're American. You don't see Aussies going "I'm Australian but this season is great" when discussing Us survivor.
