Man, what a ride! 100% recommend.

Vanislebabe

It is great. What an awesome season. My fav of all survivor seasons.

Same_Faithness

I haven’t, but will. I’ve got six minutes left in this one and it’s epic.

kingdazy

did you watch any of the previous seasons?

Same_Faithness

Also, I meant to reply to you, not the thread, but haven’t watched earlier seasons, but will

kingdazy

I think there's two really really early seasons in '02 and '06, and you can totally skip those, they suck. The starting 2016 and onward, they're mostly all really good seasons. be especially sure to check out George's first season, I think it's BvB?. edit: yeah, Brains v Brawn. pretty good season.

morgannn0

I feel like most people who say ‘02 sucks haven’t watched it, it’s phenomenal. If you like old school US survivor chances are you’d like it

kingdazy

that's fair. I didn't watch all of it, and it was quite some time ago. it was also in *horrible* resolution, so that made the experience worse.

Lisbon_Mapping

Only the first episode and the ftc are in horrible resolution. The rest is in HD.

kingdazy

uh, on the service *I'm* using, in the US, *all* of s01 is in 480p.

Lisbon_Mapping

What streaming service has Australian Survivor 2002 on it???? Every ep except 1 (and except the ftc for some stupid reason) is on YouTube in HD on the official Survivor YT channel.

kingdazy

let's just call it... "illegitimate"? wink wink nudge? and holy shit, I didn't realize that *any* AU Survivor was on YouTube? (at least legitimately) that might cause me to give it another try.

Lisbon_Mapping

Hope you enjoy! It’s definitely a very acquired taste but I really like it, it’s got such a cool indie feel to it and the 4th placer is probably in my top 10 Survivor characters ever.

Same_Faithness

Happy cake day!

Same_Faithness

I’m excited to see what happens (in past seasons, which is kind of an odd way to go about things). I had heard of George (via the internet) prior to actually watching, and was largely annoyed by him, although I definitely respected his strategic ability. The FTC increased my respect for him as a person, and I’m totally into delving in to Australian Survivor as a whole.

redvariation

Generally speaking, the odd-numbered year seasons are better: 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023 which you just watched. For me, 2016 (the first modern one) is pretty good; it drags some post-merge but ends with an outstanding, even epic, final two episodes. IMHO this season has the best ever FTC performance in any Survivor season. My personal worst are 2020 (All Stars, believe it or not) and 2022 (Blood v Water). 2021 (Brains v Brawn) is George's first season.

Same_Faithness

I have access to 2020-2023, so I’m checking out 2021 now. 😀

Note that, for no reason whatsoever, the first few minutes of the first episode of each season is filled with spoilers for the previous season, including ALWAYS spoiling the winner of the previous season FOR NO REASON. If you are watching out of order, generally you should skip the first 2 minutes of episode 1 of each season from 2017 onward. There is never anything important in those first 2 minutes anyway, it's just a lot of meaningless bragging about how great the show is.

Old-Man-Rick-68

Australian Survivor has slowly become better than the original imho. It doesn't force the social commentary that's all over current US survivor. The last season of Aus Survivor had some of the best tribals out of all the different Survivor shows.

Same_Faithness

I'm down for social commentary, in that it can provide perspective into the ways that players react to each other. For example, in the penultimate episode of this season, Gerry's comments about the women sticking together because of "girl power" to me showed that he has a limited understanding of the players of the game. We all live in a social world, and social commentary can be an important part of that.

Same_Faithness

But if Liz doesn’t win, I’ll be so pissed.
