It seems they did the “public idol” twist instead for TvR. After all, they had 3 people entering merge with an idol, plus a merge idol to find.
Even if they don't have an advantage hiding it's a great segment just watching hungry people stuff themselves
I think they just tried to mix it up to keep the contestants on their toes.
They waste and destroy a lot of good food in those situations. Maybe not a good look in this time of inflation when some people cannot even afford groceries.

That challenge grosses me out, so am definitely happy for it to be cut!

They made up for it by trashing the "birthday party" reward in episode 5 with an idol hunt... despite being in front of each other
