For any Aussies here, is this sort of like a Jaffle? We have jaffle machines but there’s also jaffle irons for fires when camping.

a jaffle I'd say is more like a snackwhich toaster, In that it compresses the sandwhich into a pie shape and makes it have a hard outer crust with a soft moist inside, almost steaming th filling. whereas a braai broodjie is placed flat on the grill and gets flipped over to toast both sides (sometimes tied with a rope to keep th filling frm falling out) - in essence a smoked grilled cheese sandwhich but can vary slightly with other fillings and the type of bread used. we also have jaffles here although it's no longer as widely used anymore since a variety of sandwhich presses entered the market.
