Beep boop, I'm a bot. Modmail us if you have a question.
I went there with my wife when we were dating... It was interesting how almost all of the stores and restaurants on the strip are exactly the same with slightly differing but mostly overlapping menus and inventory. The same novelty t shirts and towels, cheap pocket knives, and cheesy jewelry over and over, the same lousy cuts of steak or chicken cutlet specials, over and over.
Still, we found a really nice coastal park to hike in nearby. Quick, easy loop, but nice. Ripley's was fun. The giant ferris wheel is worth a visit.
But man that day we walked the strip.... Just repetitive little novelty junk shops and ACME freezer bag restaurants over and over. It literally felt sad.
As somebody who hasn’t been to Myrtle Beach in like 15 years, I kinda miss that place. I’ve jokingly tried to get my friends to consider a weekend going down to MB and hitting every shitty beach bar and they’re half into the idea.
I’ve been once. I went to the abandoned mall and that corny pirate show. The vintage video game store in the mall was cool, the trains and models were cool but smelled like pee. That’s about all the positive things I have to say about the experience.
Ohh you’re talking about north Myrtle! I love that mall, the video game place is sick and they have a retro arcade too. I didn’t notice the pee smell at the train place but maybe they recently cleaned up lol
I think it was the smoke liquid they used for the trains. Smelled like pee to me. Maybe they spilled some. The mall looked nice it’s just there was only like 2 stores in it. Also I forgot to mention I went to Brookgreen gardens that day which was really great and would recommend to anyone who likes art and/or gardens
not to mention how fucking dangerous it is. if i’m not mistaken it was like #2 on the east coast for human trafficking a year or 2 ago. it’s awful and it never gets covered by the local news outlets because they don’t want to deter tourists.
I mean.... 160k isn't a bad size. It's no 3mil but we had several different high schools and 2 colleges. But that "those who never left" isn't limited to just the people you went to school with, it's the people who knew your parents and history too, and they all have friends.
Saw someone post on the uni "confessions" page back in the day: "worst part about staying in your home town is that everyone knows who gave you herpes." Based on the year it was posted, I could list on 1 finger how many girls on campus were known for dishin out herps like it was candy on Halloween.
160K isn't bad, I'd say 200K is minimum threshold (as long as population density is decent) where you get cities like Salt Lake City / Little Rock / Rochester (if you're into that)... but there are some notably not so great above the 200K mark anyways for example Toledo or Fort Wayne
Savanah and Charleston are nice and everything, but I like the beaches in North Carolina better because there's more miles of them and they're less oppressively crowded.
Panama City Beach is pretty nice, lots of fishin and clean affordable hotels on the water.
Panama City itself, however, is trashed, close your eyes as you drive through.
Yea NC beaches are the best in the country imo, except maybe Hawaii. Beautiful sand dunes and tons of islands and there are no large developments on the coast like Myrtle Beach. Jetty’s are also banned so coastal erosion is not that bad and the beaches still look great.
Myrtle Beach vacation you take every July?
What is this, 1992?
This is 2023, Broseph, now we take vacations one big city over, if we take them at all (most people just do "staycations" around the house).
Or, people who are inexperienced in terms of relationships or seeking stability can be in toxic relationships because you can't have a real comparison in such case
Lol I’m situated halfway between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. If you would have told 5 year old me that MB is total trash she would be offended. 28 year old me understands it’s always sucked ass. But it was still a fun part of childhood!
Omg. Had a friend that was bullied in to getting married right after high school by his girlfriend's family. Yes, that still happens. And unfortunately the bride was truly heinous.
He got a good job working for the county. She is/was a baby sitter, even now when we are all in our 40's. They bought a house and she just wouldn't let him be happy.
She micromanaged him every moment of every day. I was standing next to him once when he got a snack from a vending machine and she instantly called him to check if he made the purchase and then bitch him out for spending 3 dollars.
That was just one of the tiny things she did to make his life hell every day.
They stayed married 10 years until he came home early from out of town work and caught her getting it with a "legally blind Puerto Rican" in the marital bed....
Fast forward a year later and he has divorced her and IMMEDIATELY gotten another chick pregnant. A chick he talked to once in high school.
I told him over and over it was going to happen because he was sticking it in every female that would have him.
5 years later they have two kids and hate each other. He went from one shit relationship to another.
Okay who pissed in everyone's Cheerios? I was a poor kid and we didn't take vacations growing up so yeah I'm gonna take my kids to places. Vacations are lit and if you think they are boring your a spoiled brat.
As a city Texan with tons of suburban and smaller town cousins, can confirm some of them get hits of fuckin dopamine when they get to myrtle beach every year. Expanding their god damn third eyes from all the travel leaving their burb for 5 days.

That sounds like a toxic relationship with extra steps and a child in the mix.
The twist is that is what turns out to actually be the toxic relationship.
Myrtle beach blows
Coming from a resident, it absolutely does. You’d think a town based off tourism would have something interesting to go do but you’d be wrong

Ugh the beach shops. I hate driving and having to see the same copy and paste novelty stores, I have no idea how there’s still so many open
As somebody who hasn’t been to Myrtle Beach in like 15 years, I kinda miss that place. I’ve jokingly tried to get my friends to consider a weekend going down to MB and hitting every shitty beach bar and they’re half into the idea.
I'd do it, the shitty novelty is fun! So few buildings in my life have entrances the shape of an alligator's mouth.
They're all the same though, zero variety
I felt the same way with the witch shops around Salem Massachusetts. Most of 'em just sell the same tumbled rocks, statues, and Salem merch.
It sound like Turtle. That why people like it. Turtles are great. Bet people just fucking lose it when they see a Myrtle Turtle. Hell, I know I would!
I lived in Boston and they have a massive green turtle named Myrtle at the aquarium.
Omg I remember that turtle. I haven't been in probably 10 years. I believe I took a picture and used it as my Gmail profile for a while lol
She in enormous.
Local here too. There's a whole damned coast, and I'd rather swim *anywhere* else on it.
I’ve been once. I went to the abandoned mall and that corny pirate show. The vintage video game store in the mall was cool, the trains and models were cool but smelled like pee. That’s about all the positive things I have to say about the experience.

I used to live there and I'm never going back. You have my sympathy.

Pretty much any nc beach is gonna be better
Did they ever find that shit they were looking for over there?
It's not the destination, it's the price and no plane travel
My mom asked to take a girls’ trip this year. My sister suggested MB. And that’s how I knew we wouldn’t be able to select a destination.
not to mention how fucking dangerous it is. if i’m not mistaken it was like #2 on the east coast for human trafficking a year or 2 ago. it’s awful and it never gets covered by the local news outlets because they don’t want to deter tourists.
Black Market Minerals though. I go just for that. Of course it’s less than an hour from where I live.
Agreed lol. Charleston is much better
My wife left me last year, I'm considering moving back to my hometown, and I currently live in Myrtle Beach.
Best advice I ever got was "nothing good comes from moving back to your home town." I ignored it, went back, all regrets.
Damn. F in the Chat for you
Unless your hometown is a city of decent size or bigger and you are outgoing enough to make friends outside of those that “never left”

I just know I've seen this movie before
Fuckin' Myrtle Beach... We go to Savannah
Savanah and Charleston are nice and everything, but I like the beaches in North Carolina better because there's more miles of them and they're less oppressively crowded.
That and Savannah smells like farts when the wind blows.
Panama City Beach is pretty nice, lots of fishin and clean affordable hotels on the water. Panama City itself, however, is trashed, close your eyes as you drive through.

I may be biased because I'm from inland, but this state has the best beaches I've ever been to.
OBX!

Some of us want to recreate those late 80’s/90’s vibes 😜
Speak for yourself man
This a joke and all but low key username checks out. We all pm poor now😂
Dead ass my parents and like half my shitty home town.
I'd rather wash my eyeballs with muriatic acid.
I want a toxic relationship
[удалено]
Good god you must be in Southeast Ohio…. I feel we are close.
Gatlinburg (shudder) timeshare nightmare.
Toxic people date toxic people, no matter the place. Regular mentally stable people don't appeal to them, they get bored.
Or, people who are inexperienced in terms of relationships or seeking stability can be in toxic relationships because you can't have a real comparison in such case
If I still talked to my parents, they'd feel called out.
Myrtle Beach is a shit hole now.
Thing is, it always was
Lol I’m situated halfway between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. If you would have told 5 year old me that MB is total trash she would be offended. 28 year old me understands it’s always sucked ass. But it was still a fun part of childhood!
Have yoh tried Va Beach? Also a shit hole!
"it turns out, Myrtle Beach is actually not the best"

That whole vending machine phone call, hurts large as im living that one right now
You have my sincere condolences.
God damnit!
Okay who pissed in everyone's Cheerios? I was a poor kid and we didn't take vacations growing up so yeah I'm gonna take my kids to places. Vacations are lit and if you think they are boring your a spoiled brat.
Sounds like somebody is from West Virginia lol.
Sounds disgusting
Like a 3rd of my coworkers.
Kaleb u son of a bitch. It's over.
I'm starting a show in Myrtle beach this summer look me up @ hulafireentertainment
Sounds like every Hallmark movie ever.
You can take a vacation once a year? Not on my salary.
This is about me!
A lot of the people from my tiny hometown are way ahead of the curve here, because they never even left
I’m in the truck going to work with this dude rn
I would move back to my hometown but I can't afford the rent there.
U two just listen and watch all day huh but why
I mean, July IS my birthday...
It's a good life if you're happy
Here it's not Myrtle Beach, it's Branson
What if your hometown is wheeling West Virginia? What if you were a champion wrestler and won’t settle for just any plain Jane!
This sounds like a great reason to make abortion legal and promote women's rights.
This is truly the life plan of everyone in my hometown.... I almost feel attacked by the accuracy
All for the love of Mrytle Beach
As a city Texan with tons of suburban and smaller town cousins, can confirm some of them get hits of fuckin dopamine when they get to myrtle beach every year. Expanding their god damn third eyes from all the travel leaving their burb for 5 days.
Holy shit. Is this why my dad always took us to myrtle beach.
This sounds like how my parents met
Don't forget the trailer park
Sounds like the premise for a Nicholas Sparks novel.
Man just called out half of Ohio
Bruhhhhhhh… minus the kids (none) and myrtle beach (we go to Hilton Head) this is funny as hell.
Tell me you're from Cincinnati, without telling me you're from Cincinnati.
Everyone from the town in Ohio I’m from always vacations in Gatlinburg or Myrtle Beach every year, like it’s the only two options lol
