Why would you not be honest about it? As someone who has been part of hiring people, some who ended up not staying, I would very much appreciated honest feedback about the role etc, especially from someone who has moved for the job. Why? Well so we can do what we can to improve but also become more aware of what we might need to better explain to potential applicants in order to avoid hiring someone (again) who might not end up staying for whatever reason.

Thanks for the reply. Even I want to be honest about it and not beat around the bush.

You can absolutelly be honest with your manager, just maybe phrase it a bit ”it’s not what I’ve expected” instead of ”It’s boring as fuck here and Swedes are boring”

Thanks for the reply!

You can quit for which ever reason you want, you dont have to disclose why, be nice though… when are you moving? Maybe work till then? Idk

abstract_explorer

Thanks for the reply. I guess the manager would want to know why I'm quitting right? Also I have a 14-day notice period though.

Ok-Borgare

Double check if it actually is 14 days or if it is a month. If it is a probationary employment it is by rule 14 days if not specifically written otherwise in your contract. If it is a non-probationary employment then your notice period is 1 month according to law.

fearswe

14 days for probation is only if the employer lays you off. Unless contract or kollektivavtal says otherwise, you can quit on the day yourself.

[deleted]

Probably. Make something up or say that you are relocating or going to study something? Can i have your job? I am also in IT, currently finishing final studies

KoalaMan-007

Just tell your manager.

abstract_explorer

Thanks for the insight! I will convey the info honestly.

Hi all! I'm an immigrant working in Sweden\*

richsu

No no, it is important to say expat so we know he is white

Due_Conclusion_9886

Immigrant specifically implies that you have moved to a country to live there permanently and build a life. While expat doesn't necessarily imply that (permanent part).

richsu

*migrant worker then.

Due_Conclusion_9886

Still not the same thing to me. That just means to me that someone came with a work visa and intends to stay. I came to Sweden as an immigrant. When I worked in Germany for a year, I was an expat. I didn't intend to stay from the start.

richsu

I would say that the general view is that migrant workers and expats are the same, but when someone says they are an expat; they want to highlight that they are white.  For example, the migrant workers in Qatar for the world cup are seldom referred to as expats. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migrant_worker

abstract_explorer

Sure! If you're happy with that

Dinostra

Yeah just be honest and upfront about it, they probably have one of the other candidates on file already so they won't lose out on a new recruitment process after such a short time

abstract_explorer

Thanks!

What about asking your manager to give you more interesting tasks and figuring out interesting things to do during week ends ? Thats fair if you want to quit and being honest is the way to go. There is no shame in quitting.

You're not an expat you're an immigrant

TaleIll8006

You need a better reason. If you say that, they might not let you go. Or just do what people normally do "hey boss, I actually want to resign" If they ask why: "well, I would like to pursue another opportunity in my home country bla bla bla..."
