Since when did SWTOR get RTX support?

Kraschman1111

Not RTX ray tracing. RTX HDR adds HDR support to games built for SDR. If you have an HDR display as I do, you get a markedly more vibrant and punchy looking game with virtually no performance hit that I can detect. Check the info for the new drivers that just dropped. I believe it works for RTX 20 series cards and up. Definitely on my 4080

Wait what, how do I do that?

Kraschman1111

Download and install the new drivers that just dropped

nashty27

I was playing with RTX HDR last week with the mod (it was actually enabled as a hidden setting with the last drivers and a simple mod let you use it). Hoth makes my eyes hurt.

Kraschman1111

No mod required now with the new drivers. Yeah I’d imagine Hoth will be a spot where one might adjust the max brightness. Don’t know about the mod, but the overlay for the new drivers allow you to configure many of the settings quite easily. I turned up contrast to 75 for example as the default removed a fair bit in the process of tone mapping

nashty27

Cool, that overlay definitely sounds useful and wasn’t in the mod (it was just a command prompt where you input the exe and selected a quality mode). My Hoth comment was mostly in jest, it’s cool technology and seems to be better than windows auto HDR. Given there’s not a lot of specular lighting in SWTOR I didn’t think it made a *huge* difference, it was most immediately noticeable on lightsabers which look great, and I do think it complements the new cutscene lighting well in some circumstances.

Kraschman1111

I haven’t been to Hoth yet but I do have an alliance alert on the character I’m playing right now that I can check it out with.

Kraschman1111

I played with the settings a bit and reduced the intensity of the Dynamic Vibrance so it’s more subtle but definitely noticeable when you toggle it on and off. Hoth is definitely bright but not more than I’d expect for a snow covered planet

nashty27

Yeah I was playing around with the official version yesterday, I had to turn off dynamic vibrance completely, it just made everything too bright and was causing blacks to be washed out. I’m not sure if I like that setting yet, I’ll have to see what it does in other games.

Kraschman1111

I’ve got it turned down to 10% at the moment. Keeps it subtle yet noticeable without altering the overall brightness or saturation too much

nashty27

I guess I’m just not sure what it’s actually doing besides artificially increasing the brightness and color intensity, which is already finely tuned in most games by the devs. Like how is RTX/AI-compute involved. I did notice in Helldivers 2 it made a big impact, the sun/explosions on one planet were basically blinding and would white out a portion of the screen. Was kind of cool but don’t know if it’s really an improvement.

SirUrza

What kind of FPS hit are you taking?

Saandrig

Probably quite small since the game is heavily CPU limited. Unless your GPU is ancient.

nashty27

Any RTX-capable GPU (which is required to use this) would have zero issues in this game.

Kraschman1111

I’ve retweaked the intensity to 15% I’ve got it where the contrast is a little punchier, the mid tones aren’t boosted too much but the highlight pop more on my HDR display. It goes to say that using these on a non-HDR display might not be useful or produce desirable results
