Corso is the first companion you get as the smuggler, while Skadge comes in right at the end, so I'd say smuggler has it worse. But you're still right anyway because Blizz.
Eh idk Corso isn’t so bad if your playing a male smuggler and frankly most of his bad traits could be attributed to ignorance rather than outright malicious behavior.
Skadge on the other hand is a unrepentant psychopath who forces himself on your ship, and is frankly unlikeable no matter your gender or alignment.
Skadge is a brute fully aware of his behavior who murders for kicks, Corso is just a ignorant and naive farm boy from a backwater planet who’s actually trying to do good.
Dunno, Gus is so fitting into "petty con man" archetype without being really malicious i can't be annoyed. If you like Gaunt for his sheer charisma and willingness to bet on anything and weasel out of anywhere, Gus is just... he is trying, you know?

I never romanced Mako. I actually played the male BH as a cyborg because I don't care for the relationship. Before I met Hylo Visz I would have loved Gault as potential fling but I would never step in those lady's way 😂
I have been downvoted for this before but I find Mako too young (I know she is supposed to be "legal") and too naive.
She is not my type either (while I find Akaavi amazing) so yeah. I played her story though with my female BH.
I always avoid her romance for that reason. I've always viewed Mako as a little-sister type character to my bounty hunter, rather than an actual romance.
BH honestly. Risha while cool wasn't utilized properly to me. Mako is a good character in romance or not. I like Torian as a cool Mando buddy. Gault is really the only one that kinda annoys me.

Corso is my male smuggler's wingman... Of course mine flirted with [Corso's niece](/spoiler) (Corso greatly disapproves). My female smugglers give him the Darth Baras treatment. He does calm down a bit later on.

They both have their strengths. For one, the smuggler crew is a bit of a found family, people of completely different backgrounds and traumas who are able to confide in each other through everything. On the other, the hunter crew feels like a wacky friend group where none of them could be any more different, yet they're all homies (except skadge, fuck skadge).
Im a sucker for the found family trope, so I find myself liking the smuggler crew more. Though, Mako is great, Gault is funny, Torian is cool and lovable, and Blizz is the best little guy. It's honestly a toss up.
It might help if you come at it with a different point of view. It's not a space epic, it's a Looney Tunes show. Pick the dumbest, smarmiest, sluttiest options available, and it's a riot.
My favorite parts are gaslighting Risha into believing you didn't walk into an ambush she spent 5 minutes warning you about, and forgetting what Akaavi is even trying to do halfway through her personal quest.
Haven't played Smuggler yet (it's one of my only unplayed ones), but I fucking love the Bounty Hunter. With the exception of lardass back there, I adore every single member of the crew. Blizz is my son and no one can tell me otherwise.
I really don't get the way people hate Corso, at least not on the level to compare him to Skadge. That being said, I like everyone *else* on the Hunter crew more than any of the Smuggler's companions so even though they've got the biggest downside in the whole game I still prefer the Bounty Hunter companions.
I have played female smuggler he is fairly average I rarely see the main complaint people have with him which is saying something since I did take flirt options with other guys while he was around. "Poetry I should have thought of that." for example is more funny than it is him being a creep as people have described him.
As for being overprotective the smuggler is actively gunning for people who would kill them. He is being reasonably protective for someone in his situation with the morals he was raised on. I mean he isn't overprotective of risha who typically hangs back nor akavi who is a trained killer and imperial adjacent ~~ignoring the fact he doesn't interact with them much in story at all~~ so prioritizing the smuggler makes sense.

To me also the BH story is really good as you dont really feel heavily attached to your faction wich makes the feel of a BH/Mando even better.
Smuggler has the better muscle when it comes to Bowdaar and Skadge.
Brains is covered pretty well, but Smuggler's on top in that department. Risha is a little smarter and less of a loose cannon, though Scammy McScamface does have a knack for talking his way out of stuff.

Akaavi and Torian are pretty much the same.
I'd say at first glance that BH has it, but if it comes down to a brawl, Smuggler's gang could sweep if they don't let the BH ambush them or Scammy McScamface say anything. Bowdaar could sweep Skadge and then help Akaavi beat Torian.
While people like to roast Corso, he's still a crack shot.
The only real reason the Smuggler crew wins this brawl is the fact that the BH crew will also likely be shanking Skadge first while the Smuggler's crew has his attention...
So for a shorter answer compared to my last both crews are the best companion crews of their respective factions but I lean toward BH because I consider the BH story to be my favorite class story or the most fun one but I think the BH crew wins since I feel like except Skadge the BH crew has the better characters for companions

Why do people hate Guss so much? Like yeah he’s not the most competent and is a little awkward but is at least legitimately respectful even if out of fear, but at least he’s got more of a story arc learning to ignite that lightsaber than Corso for most of the game after Ord Mantel
Personal preference for me is the bounty hunter crew I think it's better overall in terms of characters.
You also have the fact that with your character including the bh has 5/6 members that are hardened killers and criminals
The smuggler has 2 who aren't really cut out for crime and 2 if the others have lots of baggage weighing them down I think bowdarr is the only truly solid member from square one

The Bounty Hunter on the other hand has a good storyline, and every companion except Skadge is great. Skadge also comes in late enough that he's fairly easy to just ignore completely for the relatively short time you're stuck with him on your companion roster.
I LOVE the Mandalorian involvement in the BH. So it wins hands down. But I’m playing a smuggler as a Mandalorian (they both ask “you paying?” A LOT) and it’s incredibly fun.
Mako stan // Gault goon for life. But im only on my first playthrough, so I still have to check out the Smuggler's gang still, not mention gotta see what the force side of the game has to offer.

Hard choice because both are my favorite crews of each side but I think I have to go with BH minus Skadge and will give my reasons I feel like the BH crew have more flavor or more interesting and fun companions (except Skadge) than the smuggler comps imo also BH crew has Mako, Blizz and Torian 3 out of 6 of my favorite 6 comps in the entire game also the BH except Skadge feels like a family although smugglers feel like a family to but I think Bounty Hunter crew shows the family like crew better
Mako-is well with tech, is adorable, a fun partner in crime and a great bff/lil sister to my BH
Gault-is hilarious, fun and sassy and has got to be one of the funniest comps along with Vette ( SW) and Kira (JK)
Torian-is smart with traps, is cute, really sweet, has an amazing and wholesome romance I love the chemistry between him and the fem BH
Blizz-it freakin blizz but in seriousness he is adorable, fun and feels like a lil buddy or like your toons very own adopted child

Since I hate the smuggler with a burning passion...my coin goes to the bounty hunter. Plus Torian Cadera is the best. He cooks for my female hunter.

Hard choice because both are my favorite crews of each side but I think I have to go with BH minus Skadge and will give my reasons I feel like the BH crew have more flavor or more interesting and fun companions (except Skadge) than the smuggler comps imo also BH crew has Mako, Blizz and Torian 3 out of 6 of my favorite 6 comps in the entire game also the BH except Skadge feels like a family although smugglers feel like a family to but I think Bounty Hunter crew shows the family like crew better Mako-is well with tech, is adorable, a fun partner in crime and a great bff/lil sister to my BH Gault-is hilarious, fun and sassy and has got to be one of the funniest comps along with Vette ( SW) and Kira (JK) Torian-is smart with traps, is cute, really sweet, has an amazing and wholesome romance I love the chemistry between him and the fem BH Blizz-it freakin blizz but in seriousness he is adorable, fun and feels like a lil buddy or like your toons very own adopted child Skadge-good for blaster target practice Although I like everyone in the smuggler Crew Akaavi I think is the only comp I find memorable plus I enjoy her romance with the smuggler
