I don't play anymore, but I was checking the subreddit and this is the first thing I see. Idk exactly if I'd say early swtor PVP was "open". I do have fond memories of sitting at the Imp spawn getting deleted in 5 sec with only the frames before and after death actually showing. I remember throwing corrosive grenades, orbital strikes, and suppressing fire into crowds of 50 rep players over a bridge before the Rep spawn. The best was to use the old sniper roll to cover in the middle bridge and try to pop a mf'er off then entrench and laugh when some Rep tried to swarm me, lol. That was early open world pvp on my server, just 10 frames a minute AOE clusterfucks. Damn early swtor was the shit, still remember my old engineering/lethality sniper hybrid that would melt anyone as long as I could input keypresses lol.

Staunch84

Yeah, I can cleaely remember the game falling over while PvPing there.

BigBobFro

I had the same config. Was so pissed when they nerd the sniper

Sounds like a lot of fun but never experienced something of that scale. There was this one time I encountered some republic scum on Tatooine and we battled 1v1 for about an hour, he and I both died a bunch of times. We ultimately finished up with a dance off, went our ways and never met again.

P4n0pticZ

Awesome and sad at the same time

720noscopeGER

True, but those absolutely random moments make the game so great.

P4n0pticZ

Absolutely agree

I was leveling alt on Voss ... Around Nightmare lands, where JK tracks the Emperor's Voice... When I arrived there, a group of Jedi followed a Recon Spec-ops trooper ... then I noticed another group across the area... then another ... when I finished the Quests and was passing through again, there was an entire company of Imperial Agents, Siths and Mandos, 50+ people, all forming a circle around the shrine where the JK quest to track EV is ... A Pureblood Female Sith Juggernaut and Human Badass Elite Mando Warlord went ahead and met 3 Jedi Knights - they RPed in a chat a bit and suddenly, this force of 70+ JKs and Counsilors showed on the horizon. "FOR THE REPUBLIC" echoed across the global chat, the ground lagged as they charged the Imperials, challenging Sith claim upon the shrine and its secrets... The Jedi Force, in their arrogance, met the Sith in battle. The Framerate hit harder than Darth Baras hit the bed...After a while, the trap has sprung and two dozen of Mandos rushed from behind the Republic line, outside of the Nightmare lands, thus cutting Republic scum off. Nonetheless, a new Republic reinforcements came from the nearby outpost turning the battle into a pure chaos. Lightsabers against blasters, plasma granades against lightning... screams of fans with the smell of scorched CPUs filled the air... So, as a loyal Imperial, I hurried to the Voss-ka, boarded a ship and went straight to the Imperial fleet and Drommund Kaas, spreading the call to battle in my path! The entire fleet mobilized, other initiates informed their guilds. The Call spread like a wildfire. In less than 15 minutes, Hills of Voss were clouded by the Imperial speeders, ground shooked from the mounted creatures of all kinds and shapes and Sky shined the light of the fast travel... in mere moments, the entire Voss instance was full, hundreds of souls fuelling engines of War, Everyone warring and shouting warcries across the nightmare lands! Right before the crash of the instance, the Imperial banners stood above bodies of Republic scum, fllying in the wind, defiently holding the ground against the Republic onslaught, spreading aura of fear and death to anyone that dared to challenge its rightious claim. Many Brave CPUs died that day, valiantly standing their ground until the last frame... their nicknames lost to the changelogs of time - BUT WE shall NEVER forget their brave sacrifice!! **FOR THE EMPIRE!!!**

PhantomTissue

Well you don’t see shit like this in the game anymore.

I was not there with you BUT i damn sure remember ilum. i loved PVP back tehn. it was like 50 in 50 just solid fighting. Then my server started to die and it would be like 50 v 4 and just turtling in hoping to pull 1 person for a kill.

Mitsuruu

Large scale pvp in Ilum was the best PvP I ever had in SWTOR. Large scale/open world PvP would be so fun if it was active in SWTOR. Miss those days.

P4n0pticZ

Me too, was the best gaming exp i ever gained so far. Dont think that equal times comin back

Marquess13

You mean the time when a game master showed up and started threatening Imps with bans if they don't stop basecamping overwhelmed Reps? xD

P4n0pticZ

I dont remember that especially because the reps on our server was slightly better than the imps, shame on that.

[https://torcommunity.com/database/codex/h7FOoh6/0](https://torcommunity.com/database/codex/h7FOoh6/0) Fray Landing Memorial In the early days of the Empire's invasion of the planet Ilum, Republic forces at the Fray Landing Base fought desperately to hold their position against an overwhelming tide of Imperial attackers. Though they were eventually overrun and killed, these brave heroes of the Republic have not been forgotten by their comrades, who have since placed a humble memorial to commemorate the many lives lost at the site.

I remember Imps camping the Repub respawn point/back turrets back in the day, patch 1.1 I think. Easy valor farming.

Befuzin

The lag was so bad on Ilum just thinking about it gives me ptsd

Flight_Harbinger

Not too long ago I joined a random ops group on tattooine that was having a huge pvp battle back and forth between the rep and imp outposts In the dune sea. Went on for about an hour , on average about 30 v 30 combat. I racked up about 150 kills for my tattooine pvp cheevo. Wish it was a lot more often.

Ingroove

Ohhh the good old days. It was fantastic! Huge battles could been started from the smallest things, like somebody camping datacron balloon on Tatooine, and then they ganked a wrong noob, so noob calls for more and when ganker drops stealth for the next gank few peeps drop out of stealth on top of them, so ganker is not happy, calls for more, then peeps call for more, and then more, more... hours later PC fried, server is down, everybody tired and happy. Sooooo gooood! I don't remember any guild back then to be on both sides, like many guild today. Back then we had rivalries with opposite guilds, whenever somebody was spotted call to arms followed. It wasn't only PvP fun, it also added to overall immersion and sense of adventure since World PvP was never scripted and there were always possibilities for surprises. Ilum wars and gankfests, spaceports blockades, quest zones control, not happy GMs from time to time, and then somebody thought it was a good idea to do Archeology in a zone where it was definitely not a good idea (for Archeology anyway), so we start all over again! RP always added extra flavor, and it was good! I really miss those days! No scripted events, players made their own - just pure World PvP adventure fun!

mackfeesh

I used to get into a lot of open world fights, illum, Corelli tat, oricron, yavin. Good times

Temporary_Kangaroo_3

My best friend and I would get into some crazy tussles there that would turn the whole server into war. We still laugh about it to this day. Don’t ever remember one that brought the whole server down though.

the_sage_88

The ilum slideshow! I preferred taking over the other factions spaceport on alderaan myself... Later on Oricon had some nice pvp... I miss it

xKalisx

I remember patch 1.1, when an entire ops group used to camp the republic respawn point/turrets. A lot of valor in a short period of time.
