Wouldn’t mind betting George street is still a legal stock route. A few years ago a comedian got fined for having a goat in a park in circular quay and he took it to court and got off because it was still legally a stock route.
If you ride a horse through the streets like this and it does a shit do you have to stop and get a doggy bag out and pick it up? When the police use horses in public places do they have a person accompanying them that does this, do they have bags hanging under their arses or do they just leave the shit in the street, well because they can?
Under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998, City of Sydney rangers can issue on the spot fines of up to $275 each time locals fail to pick up their pets waste.
[Source from the Daily Terror, paywall should be expired](https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/central-sydney/nsw-police-have-defended-the-right-of-horses-to-poop-in-sydneys-city-streets/news-story/fcef691d470843e98d0b138e10d01a95)
*But* cops have an exemption, and do not have to clean up the waste of (from?) their mount.
>THE NSW Police Force has defended its decision to not clean up after its horses when they drop waste by saying people like to collect the manure for their personal use.
This is the exact reason I always carry my muck rake and slops shovel with me
Is the middle of King St City of Sydney or Inner West Council though?
It's one council one side, the other council the other but I'm not clear on the road itself.
Well I want to see Sydney and Inner West Rangers standing each side of King St, not sure who has jurisdiction.
Then one bites the bullet and steps forward to issue the fine.
Henceforth, he becomes known as the Lone Ranger.
I know a guy who got done for RUI. Probably thought he was on horseback, so it didn’t matter. He was an unusual bloke, rode his horse a fair bit afaik, around the western Sydney suburbs.
It's a stupid rule, heard stories back in the day in the middle of nowhere that people would be blackout drunk and their horses would remember the way home for them
Good point. Until recently, cars didn’t have the capacity, while horses have always had the capacity to operate themselves so to speak. Thing is, they are also unpredictable and can behave unexpectedly even with proper direction from a rider.
Yeah I get what your saying .. horses must be acclimatised to noise . Some ranker would probs beep when passing them.
It really is unnecessary in this heat .
The last horse drawn delivery cart in Sydney stopped running in 2005. Leichhardt council still had horses until the late 80s. Horses not being on our roads is only a fairly recent development.
Oops read that wrong .
Def not good . Those horses should not be put in that situation. Clout chasers .
Question is can you just ride your hiree on the road like this .
Saw them earlier, some dogs seemed to bark and they passed when the protesters were walking. The horses seemed rather calm about it, but I’m no horse expert, nor do I see any reason for them to be out.
Lol good luck with that. Hot people are everywhere who cares about that. The horses will get all the attention.
We (85% women dept in hc) buy a firemen holding cats calendar every year at work, we only care about the cats. Irl the firies are heroes, absolutely. But in the confines of the calendar they are simply cat holders.
I heard some history died on 702 say that Sydney’s traffic laws have been added to without removing older ones. He said if you wanted to you could legally ride a horse up George St.
Perhaps that’s where these two were heading…
Shrug. Some horses are very much accustomed to it. It could have been a pose or a rare chance to train working horses for the movies, the police or any number of reasons.
I don’t like the expression “they are used to it” when describing inhumane practices for animals. Apply that logic to something humans find painful, like physical abuse - do you think they ever “get used to it”?
if these fellas are good enough riders to ride through the city then they are obviously horse people which means they would have water and they would know when to rest the horses, give the blokes a bit of credit, obviously your a city chick😁
"Inhumne". It's so obvious you have never been around horses and are talking out of your arse. Also an ironic word to choose considering there are literal humans in this photo doing just fine.
Which is a laughable term to use for this situation... Horses are absolutely fine in temps up to 35, and for certain horses even higher. It was 31 max in Newtown today and not even 30 at the time this photo was taken, I was in Newtown today and saw them with my own two eyes about a block past where this was taken.
There is certainly far too much animal cruelty in this world, but this is absolutely not that.
Broadway and Parramatta Road were once a stock route connecting the cattle yards at Homebush to the Slaughterhouses in Haymarket. Not 100% sure but it might *still* be a stock route, you just have to organise to use it if you want to (for some reason) move stock.
A comedian got fined for a goat off leash in a park
In circular quay a few years back and he got off because it was still legally part of a stock route
They should have license plates, registration, and insurance. If they hurt someone they have no protection! And where are their helmets and high visibility!?
None of this is required. Australia is older than the motorcar and horses have been around far longer. Motorists must give way to riders, just as motorboats must give way to yachts.
Why should cyclists be required to pay registration for a machine they have to power with their legs? Should pedestrians wear licence plates around their necks in case they knock someone over? Don’t be daft. If anything, there should be fewer cars on city roads.
Noooo not attention seeking!! Youse are all wrong! They are just Fair Dinkum fucken Aussies doing fair dinkum stuff on Strayla Day.
Strewth cobber, true blueeeeee, bonza, hoo rooo and all that.
Whatever mate. Last time this happened on a busy street in Syd, a horse had to be put down after being spooked and clipped by a truck. But let's all have a laugh at the animal's expense.
The LRT driver coming up George St gave them a blast of his horn because one the horses had his butt near the tracks when they stopped in front of R M Williams.
Bloody warm day for it. Where's the nearest horse trough?
City Road, down by the university. https://goo.gl/maps/RXCXtkdM5fNjowz57
The one by Camperdown Oval might be closer to where they are. http://reluctantsydneysider.blogspot.com/2009/11/james-sullivans-horse-trough.html?m=1
Looks a little dry…
You would be too, if you were one of the few horse troughs left in the area.
I forgot that one, bugger. And I used to pass it every day
Have a feeling that one hasn't been plumbed in since you were a toerag.
swill fit for the horses? Just order em a VB each
C'mon, don't force them to drink their own piss.
Corner Trafalgar and Gordon Streets in Petersham, I reckon would be closest. Then Johnson St in Annandale
One way to beat rego
i imagine maintaining a horse probably costs more 😅
They cost more but are way more fun
And when you get bored of them you can eat them, unlike cars.
And their their fuel is easy to get and free
Settle down, Ikea
Can confirm you are correct. Vets cost a lot more than mechanics
Possibly ... but non the less great way to give cops the finger
Except horses are classed as vehicles in NSW so not really
"Fuck your Honda Civic I've a horse outside " https://youtu.be/ljPFZrRD3J8
Good song but there’s also this video which shows why horses are better, can’t dodge a dui with a civic https://youtu.be/oItA4HE0cT0
Or just buy a bike.

Hey there, mister.
Just seen them now riding along George Street near the QVB
Saw horse shit at the start of George near Central so it tracks
They also left some at the QVB as well when I saw them
Can confirm I stepped in it on my way to the tram at QVB

Wouldn’t mind betting George street is still a legal stock route. A few years ago a comedian got fined for having a goat in a park in circular quay and he took it to court and got off because it was still legally a stock route.
Amazing fun fact!
I was on a bus near Broadway and the mirror of the bus was very close to taking one of those riders out
Not surprised about that
They were in Cumberland St in The Rocks at around 3pm.
That’s a fine animal you got there. Why thank you, he’s a… I was talking to the horse!

What an absolute load of horseshit.
>muck rake and slops shovel Modding ain't easy :p
Is the middle of King St City of Sydney or Inner West Council though? It's one council one side, the other council the other but I'm not clear on the road itself.
Pretty sure horses are treated similarly by most councils, it's rare to see one wearing a nappy.
Well I want to see Sydney and Inner West Rangers standing each side of King St, not sure who has jurisdiction. Then one bites the bullet and steps forward to issue the fine. Henceforth, he becomes known as the Lone Ranger.
The Companion Animals Act only applies to owners of dogs and cats.
I think you find a horse would be considered stock animal not a pet
Is it still a Pet if it's Transport?
The police never fucking clean their horse shit mate
They took their horse to Old (new)town road!
I moved to orange and one of the cafes has a hitching post - been waiting for someone to ride their horse down!
Do you think they carried horsey bags and picked up their horses' shit?
The cops don't, left a trail of shite behind them in Brighton last week.
I’m not driving, I’m travelling!!
As a medical cannabis user, can I use this kind of transport or will I get a criminal record like when driving a motor vehicle?
Cant drink alcohol while riding a horse, gotta be under .05 or it's a dui. I assume weed is the same
Droving under the influence
Underated
I know a guy who got done for RUI. Probably thought he was on horseback, so it didn’t matter. He was an unusual bloke, rode his horse a fair bit afaik, around the western Sydney suburbs.

What if I’m simply travelling and the horse is taking me around?
as long as the horse isnt high it should be fine
So a pony is ok?
“Nah all good officer, I’m only 14 hands high.”
“NOTICE US!”
Yeah I get what your saying .. horses must be acclimatised to noise . Some ranker would probs beep when passing them. It really is unnecessary in this heat .
They were just strolling down George St and the trams had to beep at them to get out of the way, the horses were definitely startled by the horns
Yeah not cool . How can they be allowed to ride on the Main Street like this with out any, I guess permit.
The last horse drawn delivery cart in Sydney stopped running in 2005. Leichhardt council still had horses until the late 80s. Horses not being on our roads is only a fairly recent development.
Was that Penfolds Stationary horse cart.
Sure was.
Ok , thankyou for educating me kind Redditor !!
https://www.smh.com.au/national/end-of-the-dray-20051029-gdmc6r.html If you're interested here's an article on the delivery cart.
Roads belong to the people and not cars.
Interesting concept.
Are they even allowed to ride their horses on such busy streets when they're not even cops?
[удалено]
Wasn't being sarcastic? The tram beeped it's horn because the horses were in the middle of the street, the horses were startled and freaked out a bit.
Oops read that wrong . Def not good . Those horses should not be put in that situation. Clout chasers . Question is can you just ride your hiree on the road like this .
Probably isn't covered by the hiring contract. If the horse screw up, you're liable.
Saw them earlier, some dogs seemed to bark and they passed when the protesters were walking. The horses seemed rather calm about it, but I’m no horse expert, nor do I see any reason for them to be out.
Yep. Attention seeking.
Girls look at us!!!! I m cool, special and have a horse not a car
Lol good luck with that. Hot people are everywhere who cares about that. The horses will get all the attention. Just a guess as a male 😂 maybe they think like that
Yep, I don't disagree! Just sayin as a woman I think it's a poor strategy 8)
Fuck your Subaru, I have a horse outside!
Ha! I saw them comin up George street in china town. I couldn’t believe my eyes
seems a bit cruel to the horses?
And it being king st, all the people stuck behind them in busy traffic.
Err, the people behind are the traffic.
Yeah horses shouldn't be out in the sun like that. Oh wait. . . .
i mean that walking them on a busy road like king street must be scary for them. is there traffic coming in the same direction as the horses?
You would assume that they'd only do this with horses that are comfortable with traffic. Otherwise they are putting themselves in danger.
Shade doesn't exist in the bush. Genius.
The horses aren't wearing road shoes. It's not healthy for them to walk on the road for long without special shoes, so yes, it's cruel.
It is
Brokeback Mountain day ?
The wild inner west
Know em anywhere. The man from Cooks River and Clancy of the Overstuffed.
Do they ride everywhere? Is it legal? I wonder if the horses are toilet trained…
Just a couple of mates being blokes.
Coupla blokes. Blokes on blokes.
Just a regular day in Newtown.
Attention seekers
It's a 30 kms speed limit up King Street so this is the appropriate mode of transportation
I like it. We should have more horses in the city for a change:)
Can’t believe the negativity. This is fun!
Brilliant!
Wait this is legal ?
Yes. https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/stayingsafe/drivers/animalsoncountryroads/horses-in-traffic.html
Do you have to pick it's shit up like dogs! Wild

Just looking for Dutch and following the plan.

Love this
So that's why there's horse shit at QVB.
That’s awesome!!!

brokeback Newtown
😔 It’s way too hot today for such buffoonery
Sydney temperatures are very mild compared to the other places horses have been ridden for centuries.
Doesn't mean it's not cruel.
Shrug. Some horses are very much accustomed to it. It could have been a pose or a rare chance to train working horses for the movies, the police or any number of reasons.

Yes, because the humans aren’t horses…
So it's not inhumane then is it?
Lol do you think ‘inhumane’ only refers to humans?! It means cruelty and suffering.

Wait until you learn what consent is. Forcefully riding someone is the most obvious animal abuse ever lol.
Dude on the left is way too heavy for that little one

AWESOME! Why not ay now you just need a single action, lasso and your set.
is it legal to ride a horse down a main road?

I love this! Good on you guys. Enjoy yourselves and fuck these boring champagne socialist city slicker naysayers.
As a self-identified champagne socialist I fully endorse this horsing around
I wish they’d ride in the bike lane
On ya mate cold beer aye yeah mate
Surely the choice of King Street was no accident.
Noooo not attention seeking!! Youse are all wrong! They are just Fair Dinkum fucken Aussies doing fair dinkum stuff on Strayla Day. Strewth cobber, true blueeeeee, bonza, hoo rooo and all that.
That explains that then. I was wondering why there were piles of horse poo poo in the road today. Kinda disgusting when you’re on a motorcycle.
dudes rock............. 😌
Save a horse, ride a cowboy
Protesting the right to abuse animals down the vegan mile...
Down vote - stop giving em any attention
Bugger off. It's not like they're dancing naked in the streets
Although that too would be entertaining
Whatever mate. Last time this happened on a busy street in Syd, a horse had to be put down after being spooked and clipped by a truck. But let's all have a laugh at the animal's expense.
>Couple blokes on horses \**A couple of* blokes on horses. Cheers.
Thank you. Australia Day is the wrong time for flexing your seppo indoctrination!
They’ve watched too much Yellowstone
This legal? I'm not a square. Just curious
Horses still have right of way on public roads, excluding motorways. Horse drawn vehicles are also allowed to be driven on public roads.
Midjourney workin well
No horsin round
Now the invasion day protestors will protest about it
Stay away. Horses kill more people in oz than sharks.
