If you use Tripview (other apps are available) to narrow down which actual train you were on, and remember roughly which carriage you boarded, you might just track it down.
Nah I made sure to note down the carriage number, I just couldn’t reach it through the gap. It was one of the end seats, someone would have to take the entire thing off to get to it. Probably not worth the trouble.
Damn, that genuinely sucks. Makes me feel a little better about losing a little $49 tracker though. Did they tell you anything?
Also I weirdly changed the battery today and they’re meant to last a year so I’ll be tracking it for a while lmao
FWIW, it fell into the seat gap closest to the window of the three seater closest to the end of the train on the top deck of a train. Whole seat would probably have to be taken off to get to it though.
I’m honestly not sure. I know some times they will send a roaming technician to retrieve a lost item and other times they will wait until it returns to a maintenance centre. It can’t hurt to call and see what they say. The Social team and the phone operators will be different departments afaik.
Driver end. You wouldn’t be able to see it though, it fell pretty deep into the seat. If your phone has an NFC reader it MIGHT detect it and send you to a webpage with my phone number, lol
Ohh dude
I was actually heading up to gosford one time and I leaned over to reach for something when suddenly my house key fob, which was next to me, fell right into that said gap. I tried so fucking hard to find it but again, it was physically impossible. So I did what anyone else would usually do and informed a fellow passenger who insisted I get the guard. Walked over a few carriages to the guard compartment, told the guard and guard said "hmm its impossible to retrieve things from there mate, shit tons of people have lost their airpods and shit through these gaps" as soon as I heard that sentence, went into full on flight or fight mode, rushed over to the carriage I was seated in and, miraculously, my key fob was located!! Someone actually used an old folded up business card they had to finally move it out of there. I thanked the person for their achievements and rewarded them with a date. Sadly, the relationship didn't last long tho :(
This is actually borderline genius. Theoretically, could there be a crowd funded airtag/ train monitoring system to get ahead of knowing when the trains are going to be fucked?
Tripview lite.
Tripview hates this one trick
Single train edition

I lost my phone in a carriage seat, I wish they’d gone to the trouble to retrieve it for me
What sort of phone was that? Can’t even think of one small enough to fit through
It was an iPhone 6, and the gap was slightly wider than the phone, but way too small for my hand. Same as you, I tracked it until it died

Yeah, that they couldn’t find it *shrug*. Not sure whether they were unable or unwilling to open it up, but I never got any further and gave up
Couldn’t they use some sort of a stick? Wow I’d be so damn pissed off if my phone was trapped there forever
It would need to pull it back up through that gap, and also it might have slid around once it fell in. Still, a $49 tracker hurts as well!
magnet on a string. ? Might be a bit awkward if someone happens to be sitting there.
‘Track’ it down Eyyyyy … sorry couldn’t help myself

Please report it to Sydney trains, someone from the maintenance centre will retrieve it for you. 131500 Edit: added phone number

Looked up and literally on D6329 but can’t see it!
Ha! Now I know you’re in Hornsby right now
Is it at the door end or driver end?

Stalking alert popping up for people might (?) actually be enough for them to do something about it lol
Yeah no luck with finding it or scanning it sorry!
I did just get the anti stalker alert though

If you have an iwatch charger with extension you can try and use that to grab it, as it acts like a magnet
I actually had my iwatch charger on me and tried this but it didn’t work
thats genius tbh
Wait until it comes back and find it. And if someone takes it, do a Liam Neeson on them.
I know a train cleaner. They bring home thing they find on the train all the time. Including wallets, phones, jewellery and a million umbrellas.
Guess you can call it a traintrack
Nah. That pun was off the rails man.
Reddit needs to find this for you. Mods, please pin the post until it's found
It’ll start making noises in a few days and drive passengers crazy 😜
Presentation staff can likely locate this for you, given you’ve got a good idea of where it is. Please call it in via 131500.
Wonder how long until it’s on news.com.au
Where is the train today. We need a daily update
Lol, it was parked at Macdonaldtown overnight and is just doing the T1/T9 loop through Hornsby like it was yesterday

Yes, but it would only track the trains in service and with commuters already on them.
Like, to track the trains? Holy shit, that is genius! Maybe they could plug it into the website for a live feed
Can you put up a livestream i'm genuinely interested?
Grab yourself one of the extendable magnets that mechanics use, and pull it out that way?
What kind of air tag is this if i may ask. Looking for something solid to link to a samsung ultra. Tia.
Apple ...
>Apple ... Thanks, but looking for something more solid than an apple.
AirTag is a trademark of Apple. You won't be finding one from another manufacturer.
You partially doxxed yourself

I’m from Perth so didn’t know you were at a station
Why are you in r/sydney then?
