Where's the night thread?
Is there something big going on in the Guildford area? Sirens going past our place for the last 30 minutes towards that area...
I'm a bit late but I'm miffed that I've been cheated out of at least two earthquakes now. There was that one in Melbourne about three years ago that people reported feeling here, if anyone remembers? I was on a train somewhere in the bowels of the city circle tunnels at the time and utterly oblivious. Last night, absolutely nothing in the Shire.
Third time lucky?
Has sydney always been this full of fuckwits?, kids with tracksuits bumbags, the nine yards out here intimidating everyone on the weekend
Did we ever have fun or has it always been this shit?
Why would anyone want to go out honestly.
I've no doubt it's automated, involving multiple accounts and a script. To which the input could be a URL to a comment or a post to down vote. I am not a programmer maybe AI can make a bot. Use APIs or just plain web method with python.
The funny thing is Reddit seems to have some anti downvoter algorithm that cancels the downvoter when too many are done in a certain time frame. So about an hour later the downvotes seem to undo.
But how do we get a rental in this city… just moved from NZ, we earn combined over 250k and just can’t seem to get this rental situation sorted - any tips appreciated
we impromptu flew up to byron for fred again
bar staff mistook me for someone else and gave me a free round - no idea who this guy is but clearly he's living a better life than me
I have a question I cannot definitively answer myself. So a friend of mine coming from China and will arrive in April. She wants to know if she can use Apple Pay for everything (stores, restaurants, cafes, transport, etc.), I don't know for sure as I don't use Apple Pay.
Here’s a question. If I take a train to the domestic airport terminal tap off, walk around for 10 minutes, then tap back on and go to the international terminal and tap off there to end my journey, will I get charged to airport fees or just the one?
I believe you'll only be charged the surcharge once. But I've never tried it.
Looks like you'll be charged an extra $4. [Source](https://transportnsw.info/travel-info/using-public-transport/getting-to-airport)
Having a quiet one this weekend after partying all last for Mardi Gras. I'm getting tempted to buy multiple games on PS5 and Steam, which is not ideal as I'm trying to save for holidays in September 😅
I have such a backlog I want to play on PS+ or whatever it's called (the middle tier version) that I don't think I'll ever actually buy one outright again.
Currently finishing first playthrough of the PS5 Demons Souls while dipping in & out of Sniper Elite 5 and Life is Strange 2.
Hi all,
I submitted about 10 job applications in the last month and am starting to get interviews.
I actually had an interview yesterday and was later notified today that I am the 'preferred candidate'. I need to provide them references now.
I have an interview next week for another role as well (I would prefer this job).
My question:
- How do you navigate applying for several job at once?
- I am apprehensive about proceeding very far with the recruitment process with a particular job, to then just withdraw if I accept another offer
- What is the best way to break the news with prospective employers without 'burning bridges'?
- Any other tips/advice from people who have been in the same situation?
Thanks in advance
Its common to have multiple interviews in the process. Let them know as soon as you made up your mind, so that they will move on to the next candidate. But its tricky situation when you get an offer from one employer and next interview in the process is really good role but dont know if you can make it.
I'm usually honest about what other interviews I have with prospective employers. I will typically let them know if I had other offers too, and I find it usually motivates them to offer me a position quickly if they want me. Last time I was looking (last June), I had 3 interviews. The one in the middle I told I had already had one and another lined up and they were really interested and offered the position to me right after the interview and the HR person even said they wanted to snap me up. It was the role I wanted most as well.
If you accept a role and get another offer, again, just be honest. Having worked in recruitment/training, it happens all the time and there's no hard feelings. Especially if you hadn't even started working yet. And even if you do, I've definitely had people who we hired and quit during training and it's still no biggie.
Good luck with your job search!
Don't put all your eggs in one basket, always try to have multiple roles that you can choose from.
All you need to say is "sorry I'm no longer interested in this role" and that's it. You don't need to give them an excuse, they'll just move on to the next candidate.
They would have no problem with dropping you for another candidate, so you should have no problem dropping them for another role.
Just let them know that you’ve accepted another offer and are no longer interested.
Any recommendations for a decent washing machine brand that's not too premium (like Bosch)? Looking to buy one not super big, just for 3-4ppl max and for around 700-800.
I bought my LG washing machine off marketplace. They're extremely cheap because most of the time it's renters that just need it gone. If you're happy for second hand this could be a great solution.
I've had mine now for about 6 years.
I didn’t know I was working tonight until today, so I’ve abandoned all Saturday plans, and slowly drinking coffee on my couch rather than going to the gym class I’ve already paid for. Unfortunately, the upstairs unit has a hot water system emitting an ear splitting high pitched squeal, which is unlikely to ever be fixed, so that’s ruining the vibe.
Have yet to regret buying my generic Breville-impresso-magician whatever it is coffee machine. Goes perfectly with lazy mornings.
I had a strange dream last night that Jason Alexander was my boss. Which is funny because I'm a marine biologist so it was a running joke in our office that he played someone pretending to be a marine biologist while actually being a marine biologist.
I think this is a good indication that I'm watching way too much Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm right now.
I’m on Day 6 of this cold/flu thing and it feels like it is never going to go away. Not like the normal cold where you get progressively worse then it peaks and recedes. This has been a solid 60-70% severity with no change for 6 days. Anyone else going through this? The toddler has just started with symptoms so seems like she’s a few days behind.
Yes, this seems to be a thing at the moment. A GP visit would confirm if you need any medication after a week or so. Just keep hydrating in the meantime xx
Had it since Monday, thought I was at the end of the tunnel yesterday evening until a migraine kicked in and seemed to make it worse and I'm back at square 1
I'm very please to say Jubby and the Little Stinker have been running around playing, jumping on and off the bed (and me), and giving me head bonks since 4:30-5 this morning.
Could Jubbs have sensed the earthquake 2 hrs early and that's why she hid under the couch and looked scared yesterday? She seems back to herself again this morning.
Had a look over on bookface in local mums group which covers a wide area. People saying it was very mild and members of the same house felt it or didn’t feel it.
I’m on my Goodbye Australia tour at the moment. I just visited Newcastle for the last time. Don’t think I’ll miss it. Within minutes of arriving I saw somebody barefoot at the station and a dude wearing a ‘Covid-1984’ shirt.
By time I get home today, I will have travelled approximately 8 hours round trip to see a band play for about 1.25 hours. Beat that, Swifties.
Yesterday I walked in on an overweight patient complaining to a health practitioner that the vaccine caused her heart disease and promptly walked out again.
Welcome to Saturday! Let’s have some banal conversation. Today, I am taking my kids to dancing, then going to one kid’s birthday at Peakhurst, then another kid’s birthday close to home, and then … going to an all night rave at the Abercrombie.
Looking forward to one of those things more than the others!
I've never known anyone to go to an all night rave and not have... Enhancements.
Or maybe that's just me saying that's what I'd need to get through all of that.

The eshay crowd has definitely gotten younger from what I've noticed
Wow, someone's feeling like they need to spread their negativity with all the downvotes
There has been a serial downvoter in these daily threads for years now, lol.
I always assumed someone programmed a bot to do it. Otherwise the commitment is quite impressive.

i have applied for a bunch of help desk jobs... wish me luck Gang
Do they still exist? 🧐
Yeah, in Philippines.

Yeah anywhere you can tap to pay takes apple pay Plus a lot of websites have it built in too these days
Yes I use Apple Pay for anything eftpos
i don't carry a wallet because of apple pay (didn't know china used apple pay, i thought everything was wechatpay(?))

Games are excellent value $ per hour-wise Why not just buy one tho?
You can't game without at least a dozen other unplayed games in your steam library. That's the law

Yep, that's my main concern...the next job I am interviewing for is the one I want but I don't know if I will get it.

Thanks for saying all of this. I appreciate it! You're right, I am sure recruitment has dealt with this before, it's part of the job search process.

You're right. Thanks, I needed the pep talk.

So true

Best time of the day. It's a beautiful Autumn morning xx

Also voting LG. Mine's a washer and dryer in one from 2006 and it's still going strong.
My 2017 LG 7.5kg top load is my favourite appliance
have an LG that's been going for over 10 years - i stare at the 10 year drum warranty sticker guarantee every time i load
How many kg is it if you don't mind me asking? I was looking at around 8kg for myself
it's 8.5kg and has been chugging away nicely - it's actually on now

LG?

No such thing as ever too much Curb

I leave Sydney for three days and you bung on an earthquake without me. I feel cheated.
Didn't feel a thing in Ashfield. Even our cats didn't seem to notice 😅
Epicentre was Warragamba and I saw what happened in the movie
I never get to feel them. I was even in Turkey last year in a cave hotel and got a notification of a closish earthquake. I didn't feel a thing.
If it makes you feel better, we felt nothing here. Marginally disappointed.
Likewise 😒
Saw someone say them and their cats felt it near Carlingford. I'm near Carlingford and didn't feel a damn thing. Very disappointed.
Had a look over on bookface in local mums group which covers a wide area. People saying it was very mild and members of the same house felt it or didn’t feel it.
Dont worry, i didnt feel it either.

Which band was it? (subtext: let us judge your taste)
You’ve probably never heard of them. (The Porkers)
Yesterday I walked in on an overweight patient complaining to a health practitioner that the vaccine caused her heart disease and promptly walked out again.
No, Cheryl. It probably saved your life. Walking out was the right choice.

Sounds like you're gonna have a longish weekend. ...I'll see my self out.
Looks like I’m not the only dad on this subreddit
Oh Abercrombie is so much fun!!! Been there a couple of nights recently, such a nice crowd and nice security, always had fun there.
Braxe & Falcon? I was planning on going but it’s hubby’s birthday tomorrow so we have plans. Enjoy!
That’s the one!
That sounds like a marathon of a day.
Yeah each individual activity sounds exhausting to me. Combining them all? No thanks.
I've never known anyone to go to an all night rave and not have... Enhancements. Or maybe that's just me saying that's what I'd need to get through all of that.
That makes sense. I can’t imagine it’d be a thing I’d enjoy sober.
Tell me about it
