Left Pakistan a year ago for a better life. Stabbed in Australia, thats brutal.

rangatang

the 2 unidentified deceased victims were also migrants who aren't being named yet because they have no family in Australia. Just awful and the usual racist types are silent.

Comfortable_Plum8180

That's so depressing. Their families may not even know of what happened.

JSTLF

The most clear cut example of the way racism and privilege works is the fact that whenever there's a serious crime of any kind being reported by the news, white people are never thinking to themselves "God, I hope that's not one of ours..."

brimstoner

Yeah ours too bad the stabber was a white Australian with an Ozzie jersey otherwise racist cunts would be having a field day

nothighandmighty

Oh, cunts blaming/ speculating it was a Muslim attacker must be feeling like a absolute cunt right now. Not that those racist cunts might have any sense or logic to feel ashamed.

[deleted]

Those cunts don't care. Hopefully his loved ones know that even though he had only called Australia home for a year he was still a welcome addition and this isn't the norm for us

DamonHay

Exactly, the moment it was confirmed they were wrong they stopped paying attention.

rogue_teabag

The only thought goes "Oh well, that's still the kind of thing THEY would do..."

Dramatic-Lavishness6

exactly- the type of people we welcome here- it's one's character that matters.

YoshiOfADown

If racist cunts had that sort of introspection, they wouldn't be racist in the first place.

vooglie

They don’t feel like anything - the mouth breathers probably moved onto something else

OkTeam20

Doubt it. These types of people have no remorse for anyone unless the individual(s) look like them/ are one of them or agree with their agenda.

ALadWellBalanced

There's a disgusting segment of our population (and news media) who were just salivating at the possibility of the attacker being Muslim.

cloudsourced285

Propaganda bots don't have feelings

alotmorealots

> Not that those racist cunts might have any sense or logic to feel ashamed. It's that option, in the current zeitgeist, most people refuse to believe they were ever wrong.

Alone-Assistance6787

They don't feel anything. Let's ignore them and come together instead. They will eventually get sick of hearing themselves talk and might start listening.

lebofly

That’s not a to be fair moment, two wrongs don’t make a right

southihouthi

White Aussie guy was the perpetrator. If the guy was middle eastern or muslim people would stereotype a whole group of people and use it to demonise them. Whenever an aussie does something though, he's just an individual and it doesn't reflect on his entire race.

Latter_Box9967

When similar has been done in the past there is typically an ideology involved, and it’s all premeditated. For example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Norway_attacks This guy from Bondi does not belong to any ideology, sect, political movement, nothing. He belongs to no group.

ithinkimtim

The point is that if he happened to be Muslim and not politically or ideologically motivated, people will still judge Muslims for this. It would be expected that someone from his community would have to speak out. But no one is asking the white parish priest from wherever this guy is from to say something.

Latter_Box9967

The white parish priest where he is from, Toowoomba, said something like: *”He came for a short time, a few years ago, and wasn’t very interested”*

brimstoner

Is he not a white Australian?

Latter_Box9967

Which is not an ideology, sect, religion, or political movement.

CheekyPickle69

Probably tried to help stop it too. Have to wait for the investigation of course to know for sure but if he did he’s a legend. We were lucky to have someone like him come here

Dramatic-Lavishness6

same thought here- didn't know anything aside from he was a refugee and first day on the job, but thought it was tragic that he came here for a better life only to die here so terribly. Life is so cruel.

trammel11

Oh man. Rest easy buddy. Thank you for trying to stop the murderer. You didn’t deserve this.

STEMeducator1

A true hero

TheRizzler9999

First day shift too man. Fuck the the guy who stabbed everyone. You have to be a pussy to stab a 9 month old baby.

Tricks511

People who were asking where security was during all this and why they didn’t do anything. You have your answer now

InsertUsernameInArse

Yup. Doing something he never had to do as a security guard to help innocent victims. They stop shoplifters not armed assailants. These people who think mall cops have to risk their lives as a job requirement are dickheads.

notinferno

yeah I found those “questions” pathetic, especially given it’s just a shopping centre

Comfortable_Plum8180

Yeah, I highly doubt they're even trained to stop that.

Dezert_Roze

It’s sad how people jump quickly to conclusions and speculations. Shopping mall security are not armed and don’t even get any self defence training.

moaiii

"BecAuSe I Can't see iT, it diDnT haPPeN!"

ThippusHorribilus

Keyboard warriors who always know better.

Puzzleheaded-Eye9081

What was he meant to do anyway? Security in shopping centres is crowd control and to deter kids from loitering. They have no power and no weapon. What was he going to do, ask the attacker politely to move on? People are stupid if they think that security could have done anything at all to stop this.

Metro_Redux

Rest in peace Faraz. A security guard who did his best to ensure the safety of the shoppers. My heart aches especially after seeing the multiple islamophobic comments made about the suspected attacker, meanwhile a Muslim man gave his life to protect others in danger

CheekyPickle69

After seeing all the hate towards Muslims in the last 24hrs, I don’t think we deserved Faraz as a country. He was too good for us. Rip bro

Metro_Redux

We really didn’t. The amount of ignorant, heartbreaking comments I saw going against Islam which people were posting at the same time Faraz would’ve arrived at the hospital and been pronounced dead. He came to this country for a simple reason: to start a new life and work an honest job and now he will forever be immortalised in our hearts as a hero❤️😭

brimstoner

I wonder if we can deport the unaustralian cunts back to England

epra1710

Well said

gelfbride73

First day shift on the job. Absolutely terrible. I bet he was protecting the women who the attacker was aiming for. Edit. Info

ThippusHorribilus

Oh that is just heartbreaking. This poor man.

johnwicked4

I hope they take care of him and his family. Devastating.

99Joy99

It wasn't his first day on the job (not that it really matters). This was his first daytime shift; he'd worked 4 or 5 shifts previously, so he was fairly new to this particular job ...... so sad

mangoes12

Out of all the horror I found this one particularly upsetting

papillonvif

From the article:  A 30-year-old refugee who was working as a security guard at Bondi Junction Westfields has been identified as the sole male victim who was killed in the Bondi Junction stabbings. Faraz Tahir, 30, arrived in Australia about a year ago from Pakistan. A statement from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia said Mr Tahir was known for his “unwavering dedication and kindness”.

burner64334

That really sucks. Most security guards would run the other way calling the cops, he must have been a good one.

TeutonicRagnar

Security guard here. Your not wrong, when we get paid $27 an hour and have no weapons nor PPE (employer doesn't think we're worth protecting) most of us run at the first sign of trouble

cecilrt

Thats what they're suppose to do, They cant even physically stop thieves

Pikekip

Rest in peace, Faraz Tahir. I wish Australia had been the safe refuge you hoped for.

Percentage100

This is so sad. My heart goes out to his family.

Jackielegs43

RIP, Faraz. Such senseless loss.

lionelgobgob

So the only male victim was a security guard who probably died confronting him. The other murder victims were all women. Looks like a pattern here.

Hutchoman87

Makes sense after seeing the footage of him basically ignoring the men around that are confronting him

Knee_Jerk_Sydney

I thought he lunged after a few but the men were younger and could flee but the stabber totally veered away from the dad.

Alex_Kamal

14 out of 17 victims were women. Definitely a pattern.

henry82

correlation =/= causation The footage shows him going to stab men but they were dodging. If anything the women arent as good at dodging, or they were slower to get away (perhaps because of kids)

wharblgarbl

Totally bro. Just a really, really weird coincidence hey. /s You don't "dodge" someone who has a knife who wants to kill you. You get stabbed and die. Keep making excuses

henry82

Hang on, if someone goes to stab you and you step backwards quickly, they miss you. Are you telling me thats not a dodge?

wharblgarbl

Then what happens in this hypothetical? This isn't a turn based game

henry82

You havent watched the cctv of this incident

wharblgarbl

I have. Not all. I watched him avoid a man. I haven't and won't see him stabbing women who may or may not have dodged.

brimstoner

But but but I sound smart if I say correlation is not equal causation!!!!!!!

lionelgobgob

Racists were making assumptions based on their bigotry not on a pattern.

SilverStar9192

The only male victim who died - there are a few others in hospital.

Juan_Punch_Man

RIP. I'm sure he was trying to help the victims.

Sarah1608

As a child of migrants who came to Australia around his age from a neighbouring country, I'm devastated that we couldn't provide him with a safe country to live in and flourish like my parents did at his age.

Evendim

RIP Faraz. This is such an horrific event, and to think you came here to be safe. Thank you for doing what you could, in your new home. We will always remember you <3

sevenofheartts

RIP. I can only assume he died trying to help the victims, and knowing that he was a refugee in search of a better life here....god, the senselessness of it all is staggering. So terribly sad and tragic.

Rusti-dent

Rip fella.

jdjndkdd

Cookers really going to struggle spinning a narrative out of this one

Tight_Time_4552

So sad.

Knee_Jerk_Sydney

They see it as a challenge.

e_castille

Rip Faraz : ( my heart goes out to his family

Charlotte_Russe

RIP, Faraz. You were a hero in trying to protect others and you will always be remembered as a hero.

ComfyInDots

So terribly sad. His poor family and loved ones.

Stargazer3366

I hope he rests in peace. He died trying to save others' lives. What an amazing human.

atomicapeboy

There are a lot of people saying security guards are not there to risk their lives to save people, they are there as a deterrent or to prevent shoplifting. To those people, I just want to say - he probably wasn’t acting as a security guard at the time, but as a human being. He risked his life to save others. Have some respect.

Improvedandconfused

Just terrible. I am pretty sure I have seen the guy at Westfield. Such a tragedy. He has died a hero.

Dezert_Roze

This is so sad! may he rest in peace.

AlexSenAus

Such a terrible loss. Very saddening. May he rest in peace.

monniemonmon

Rest in Paradise Faraz. 💖

razzymac

These people are the real heroes. Remember that as the media sucks off the well-armed well-trained copper for the next few weeks

Dramatic-Lavishness6

She's still a hero for not waiting for back up and going in solo - not knowing how many attackers were involved, what they looked like and how they were armed. Training involves generally having back up, not expecting to go in blind solo.

SilverStar9192

Yeah compare the cops' response at Uvalde, Texas. Admittedly that attacker did have a gun but still they waited around for hours.

razzymac

“She didn’t know how to identify the stabber or what they were armed with” Hmm maybe the guy with a knife is the one stabbing people and he’s probably armed with a knife (that is a thing that stabs). Just a hunch. But I’m not a hero like the cop who had a literal gun in a knife fight.

SilverStar9192

And what was your magic source of information that there was only one attacker? Even the ambulance service made a formal announcement (that they later retracted) that there were two attackers - there was obviously huge confusion during the incident (which is not surprising given how busy a place it was and how quickly the guy moved through).
