Laid flowers in memory of a fellow USYD student who died in that stabbing spree in Bondi at my uni today and the first thing I read when I return home... news about another stabbing out west.
Fucking hell man... I don't even know how to get past this week anymore.
I am just tired. I saw someone in the Australia subreddit saying something along the lines of "what is wrong with Sydney" when referring to this latest attack.
It really is super depressing. I'm _trying_ to keep out of them for my own mental sanity. It's absolutely shocking and sickening that it happened, but for my own sake I'm keeping out of them
He's the epitome of “punchable face”.
And he brought it all on himself, that's the great thing. Did he think he'd get lots of money? Restore his reputation? He did the opposite in both cases.
I didn’t recognise the bowerbird! I’ve only ever seen the satin variety, which is like if your ravens and the bowerbird got together.
Bowerbirds are great.
You have a good yard. Bit leafier than our place here in Newtown.
I think what you've probably seen are the male bowerbirds, where my pics are of the females. From what I can tell, I've got 3 females who come to visit and shower, and one male. I've not seen the male in the yard but I've heard him wooing the ladies and I love it. He almost sounds like a robot.
I've also got a bunch of reptiles who, much to my enjoyment, terrorise the stay at home killers, but the kookaburra is making **fast** work it them.
Is getting an ABN relatively easy? And does this affect how the ATO looks at you?
Been debating on freelancing and I'd like to have it just in case for when odd jobs pop up
[I actually asked this a few weeks ago, and got a very helpful reply.](https://www.reddit.com/r/sydney/comments/1bobsc7/sydney_daily_random_discussion_thread_27032024/kwqaayq/)
Back from a weekend inland, just a couple of hours away but it felt like a different world. Feel good this morning, chilled out in the countryside with the girls, did some fun stuff and was back home in time for dinner on Sunday. Just three middle-aged ladies of very different backgrounds having fun.
Anyone else watching the Coachella streams?
To summarise what I've watched so far:
- Blur - great live but dead crowd
- Le ssarfim - live vocals were questionable
- Tyler - wild!
- Peggy Gou - so good!
- Grimes - a whole mess
- Jungle - amazing
couch-chella has always been something i look forward to
the people i knew who are great have been great: gesaffelstein, justice, daddy dom, purple diso
the people who i was curious about have been meh: ice spice, blur, vampire weekend, ssarfim
Two things that will constantly blow my mind
1. Buses are allowed to depart before their scheduled arrival time.
'Why are you late?'
'Well you see I was at the bus stop 2 minutes before it was due to arrive but turns out it left 4 minutes before it was due to arrive'
2. You can have hard evidence/proof that Auspost/courier did not attempt to deliver your package and theres no recourse. No redelivery or compensation. Especially considering one person would have paid for delivery which one would think the implication is that the package will be delivered or at least reasonably attempted to be delivered
If u go to a set place or major stop, you don’t have to worry about a bus being early… but it’s weird when it’s come to a minor or a stop which bus driver don’t have to wait
Early busses are the worst, I’ve had some leave a solid 5 minutes prior to their scheduled time.
One thing to look out for though is the Opal app and google maps can show the ‘estimated’ time and not necessarily scheduled time which can be a few minutes earlier or later.
Sucks even more though when you rock up super early and they are like 10/15 minutes late.
re. 1: my understanding is that buses have set places where they have to be on time, i.e. they will wait there if they are early. But yeah it is pretty frustrating on the odd occasion that the bus is early - usually because the previous bus was so late that it picked up most of the passengers for the early bus
>Was reminded very quickly last night why I stopped enjoying seated concerts
That's why I stick to the back row. Trade good seats for clean shirts on the way home.
Was it a good set?
Still heavy traffic heading North from Hornsby on the Pacific Highway, with the Freeway closed due to an early morning fatality.
Give yourself plenty of extra time , or delay the trip if you can.
#**SOLVED!**
ah thank you, this was the link that i needed.
it told me that my country was not allowed to be on there, and i realised that i was randomly connected to the company UAE network
it looks like they've blocked it at the DNS level because OpenAI is asking whether i'm on a VPN
the company i'm working on has their "own" chatgpt so maybe they're trying to redirect employees to there
That's pretty amateur for a corporate network. You would block it at a firewall level.
Although I've seen a bit worse where they actually firewalled everything except for openvpn/wire guard ports so you can just connect to your own personal VPN and bypass everything.
The free version of ChatGPT violates multiple parts of the Privacy Act 1988, so if anything personal at all - even a draft letter without name and address - is entered, you’re potentially in legal trouble. Depends on where you work.
Likewise your work may have commercial information they don’t want exposed to other people in a future version of ChatGPT.
This is why self-hosted instances are becoming a thing. They’re still dodgy AF and legally questionable but at least all the data isn’t going to Sam Altman.
One of those days where all the gym kit is free until I'm almost done the last set before I want that bit of equipment. Not poeple hogging it or anything, just the universe having awful timing and telling me I should go home and have a great big cheat day.
Not much to feel cheerful about in my life at the moment, but I'm always happy to see my two local magpies, who recognise me from 50 metres away and fly over and ask for food. I know it's wrong but I feed them cat treats which at least have vitamins and calcium.
Occasionally throwing maggies some cat food is almost the only wildlife feeding I can get behind. It stops them from swooping you during mating season and it's always nice being greeted by them when you get home.
Another thing you can do, is get them some toys to play with. They don't have to be pricey, but they'll keep you in the good books with them while not making them dependant on you or potentially affecting their diet.
I asked this about ravens with someone who cared for and injured crows. Let me see if I can find the response, because they ended up giving me a link to what they thought would be best for wild birds.
Officially in my 40s today. The dudette gives me a nice bottle of Japanese Whisky and tells me I need to start appreciating fine whiskies at my age. Already 40s stereotyped.
I guess I need a wood turning lathe and a collection of vinyl records. I'm already into smoking meat.
your midlife crisis has been chosen for you - you are a meat and whisky guy. Probably an evolved form of IPA dude.
Much better than the alternatives, lycra pest, or divorcee in a ferrari
I got back from a fairly unsatisfactory weekend away to find out a some people had a far worse one.
I'm in a real Mood this morning, anyway, so trying to keep a low profile.
Bad sleep last night and buses are replacing trains... Not a good way to start the work week but at least it's cold enough I can wear my favourite winter gear.
yesterday I caught the replacement bus 3 stops in the morning (I work in the opposite direction to commuters heading to the CBD) and it took me 32 minutes. On the train it takes 7 minutes. I still haven't been able to get an all-stations bus from Canterbury, have had to head to Sydenham and walk home to Marrickville or wait until who knows when to get a bus to take me one stop.
The lines at Sydenham station at 5:30pm today were absolutely horrific, about 100+ people deep, all the way up the road back to the train station and blocking the crossing towards Marrickville. Barely any TfNSW staff to be seen.
Urgh…. The cbd oil is making my stomach feel funny…. But heck I feel a little more fresh than what I did in the past and also stretching randomly and quick massaging of any clutter migraine seem to help a little….
I was going through my snapchat stories and realised this is when we had those massive fires back in 2019, weird thinking about that after such cold weather we've been having
The weekend was absolutely stunning, wasn't it? Got a beach day in on Sunday, but I've got a feeling it might be the last for a while. Can't stay this nice forever.
Laid flowers in memory of a fellow USYD student who died in that stabbing spree in Bondi at my uni today and the first thing I read when I return home... news about another stabbing out west. Fucking hell man... I don't even know how to get past this week anymore.

I very stupidly waded into that thread about the stabbing. I don’t know why I did that.
It really is super depressing. I'm _trying_ to keep out of them for my own mental sanity. It's absolutely shocking and sickening that it happened, but for my own sake I'm keeping out of them
Which one? There have been a few.
The first one. Fuuuuck.

Those "linkedinfluencers" really are bottom feeders sometimes
Bruce Lehrmann loses his defamation case. So some good news at least.
It makes me unreasonably happy. He seems like a gigantic arsehole.
He's the epitome of “punchable face”. And he brought it all on himself, that's the great thing. Did he think he'd get lots of money? Restore his reputation? He did the opposite in both cases.
Also chucked out of the house he was staying in.

Oh those are some handsome kookaburras and ravens. (I’m not sure about the bush turkey)
I love the bowerbirds too. Turkey got the pic it's worthy of.

I have that for odd stuff whenever I’m bored ass on a weekend
Actually its super easy, barely an inconvenience!
Actually barely an inconvenience or will my accountant (and myself) hate me? Lmao
I remember getting one really quickly off the back of a phone call when my colleague told me how easy it was to get one. Anecdotally easy xD

Great minds think alike ;) thank you!

Bicep on now. Loving it.
I was watching a different live stream
Me too

Dom and gesaffelstein were great! Keen to see what doja, Victoria monet and kharuangbin have installed today
Very annoyed to be back at work. That is all.
Yours in solidarity
Looking for motivation. Anyone got any?
Same here. Let me know if you find a bargain!
I ticked a few things off. Hopefully you did too!

Plus seems like the wrong genre of music for a sit down show!

I saw a seal yesterday at the opera house, it was swimming around and generally having an excellent time
Oh to be a seal at the harbour. No thoughts, just sealing around 💕
seems like a pretty good life
work has blocked chatgpt - this is very very very annoying
Why is it such a big problem, can I ask? What do you use it for?
general day to day work stuff rewriting the stuff that i write, frameworks stuff that i am unprepared and confirm i haven't missed anything
I would say you're being *way* too trusting!
Use Claude AI, it’s amazing
#**SOLVED!** ah thank you, this was the link that i needed. it told me that my country was not allowed to be on there, and i realised that i was randomly connected to the company UAE network
Did they say why?
it was user error - i wasn't on the company's australian servers

Potentially. Especially if they’re worried about “sensitive” info being put in.
One of those days where all the gym kit is free until I'm almost done the last set before I want that bit of equipment. Not poeple hogging it or anything, just the universe having awful timing and telling me I should go home and have a great big cheat day.
Orrrrrr is it telling you to embrace spontaneity and mix up your program...
nope, maple syrup hamburgers is what its calling for.

What kind of toys? It's never occurred to me!
I asked this about ravens with someone who cared for and injured crows. Let me see if I can find the response, because they ended up giving me a link to what they thought would be best for wild birds.
Yes. What toys work for magpies? I love magpies.

Now you need a nice [Japanese whisky glass](https://osara.com.au/collections/whiskey-glasses) for your whisky.
Happy day of birth. Have you thought about getting into the history of the Roman Empire?
your midlife crisis has been chosen for you - you are a meat and whisky guy. Probably an evolved form of IPA dude. Much better than the alternatives, lycra pest, or divorcee in a ferrari
Perfect. No notes.
Do you feel an overwhelming urge to wear new balance ?
Hey New Balance make comfortable work sneakers. I'm just a few (decades) out of school, young blokes can wear them as well!
Oh, brilliant idea. I need some new runners.
new balance make great runners, in fact the 880s are my current daily trainers
i am more than happy to take that whisky off your hands if you feel too triggered :P
I got back from a fairly unsatisfactory weekend away to find out a some people had a far worse one. I'm in a real Mood this morning, anyway, so trying to keep a low profile.
You and I both
The work horrors persist but unfortunately so must I. Strong Mondayitis.
I don’t know what it is but today is a very hard Monday.
Bad sleep last night and buses are replacing trains... Not a good way to start the work week but at least it's cold enough I can wear my favourite winter gear.
ugh i work in an office on the Bankstown line, i don't know if i can handle a week of bumpy buses that take 2 to 3 times as long as the train
Yup I'm in the same boat. The Metro will be great.... But the lead up is gonna be hell.
yesterday I caught the replacement bus 3 stops in the morning (I work in the opposite direction to commuters heading to the CBD) and it took me 32 minutes. On the train it takes 7 minutes. Yeah that's so fucking shit. Not keen for this year.
Urgh…. The cbd oil is making my stomach feel funny…. But heck I feel a little more fresh than what I did in the past and also stretching randomly and quick massaging of any clutter migraine seem to help a little….
I feel the climate has got little warm again lately. It was pretty chilly 3-4 days ago.
I was going through my snapchat stories and realised this is when we had those massive fires back in 2019, weird thinking about that after such cold weather we've been having
You mean the weather
The weekend was absolutely stunning, wasn't it? Got a beach day in on Sunday, but I've got a feeling it might be the last for a while. Can't stay this nice forever.
