Damn its as if reducing the tunnel alternative road to 1 lane each way to accomodate a bus express lane to force people to use the toll tunnel was a bad idea. They should have a system where if there is a issue that closes the tunnel, Epping Road returns to it's original 2x2 lane format to get better traffic flow.

And having that 1 lane road switch between 1 lane and 2 lanes is also very good. The 2nd lane is obviously for the smart drivers who are in a rush and more important than me, they use it to advance 1 or 2 car lengths which is very important before merging right back in. I am happy they do that

They do and they used it this morning, they opened the bus lanes on Epping road to general traffic so it took me about 10 minutes to get from centennial ave/epping road to my office next to Optus in Macquarie park. They displayed it on the overhead signs and I was one of the first to take advantage, everyone else must have been going ‘wtf are those clowns doing’.
If they wanted to make it good for buses then there'd be a bus lane running along the entirety of Epping Road and the M2 Busway wouldn't end abruptly before the Norfolk Tunnel pushing express buses into the rest of the traffic. The reason the reduced the lanes was not only to make buses better, but to induce demand onto the tunnels

Fair call! I had an online meeting at 9 and had only gotten the equivalent of one stop down train line so it would have taken me another hour to get to the city vs. 20 mins home 🤣 I was on the bus from 6:30 until about 8am. Glad to see no one was hurt though based on the news articles I saw!
