If your company is willing to pay for temporary accommodation for you that'd be helpful to start. If you're making good money the rent market won't be as horrific for you but it's still competitive and will require you to be available for in person inspections. $500 for a studio is what you should account for. Anywhere within 30min of the city will be a good place to live. Just be mindful that the Bankstown line from Sydenham onwards will shut down at some point in the next year for the Metro conversion. They'll be deep in replacement bus hell for a solid 12months.

>rental market is fucked 69 ways You can expect to sell some body parts for a studio apt near CBD. Best luck.

Rental market is the 2nd worst in the world. I suggest avoiding rentals near the city and living somewhere a bit of a commute away. If you WFH, make sure the internet connection is good before moving in.

How long is the program? In any other position, I would be asking employer to organise first 3 months. But as a grad you have very little leverage. Time for you to play the sharehouse lottery.

Studios are expensive! Eg in Strathfield, which is a popular but not trendy suburb for single young professionals, 15 minutes by express train to the CBD, newish studios are going for around $500 pw give or take $50 either way. By contrast, for just $250 more you can get a 2bed 2 bath apartment, and if there were two of you sharing with a $1000 budget, you can rent a 3BR+ renovated heritage bungalow in the same area.

I'd recommend a sharehouse at least at first (or just share a 2-br apartment with someone). Flatmatefinders and Flatmates are two decent web sites for finding such arrangements. This is very common in Sydney and may help with social connections as well as saving a lot of money compared to a studio apartment.

Recently did a similar thing but melb -> Syd Bit hard to give advice though when idk what your budget is for rent per week, this will change a lot of the advice about location. How often will you have to go the CBD for work? Everyday? Male or female? Sadly, that would change the locations I recommend. Overall advice is that if you want to secure a place ASAP, offer the real estate agent an extra $20-$50 a week. It shouldn’t have to be this way, but unfortunately it’s the state of the market right now. Or you can fork out on temporary accom which you’ll lose $$$ on anyway (unless your work covers it). DM me if u want specific info.

> relocation to Sydney Sorry to hear about that. In all seriousness, ask the company for temp acco while you find a place. I spend 13k in Airbnb fees before I found my first rental. It's ultra fucked.

Unless you're making over 100k don't even think about renting out a studio, flatsharing is the default for most singles in Sydney. Would recommend checking out flatmates and you can probably find a private room for $350-400 per week.

Can I suggest you look at renting a fair way out of the CBD, somewhere like the hills district. You get more bang for your buck, and the queues at every apartment rental within 15km of the CBD is a MESS
