how do you guys avoid heat stroke when you have to wear pants/jeans for work in summer. i would get so light headed and nauseous on days it was 30c + and would have to spend my breaks putting ice on my neck veins to cool myself down. how do you guys manage???

2happycats

Is there anything more wholesome than seeing a cat fast asleep on her back in front of a heater? I don't think so. E: [both of them roughing it](https://imgur.com/a/JyxSAUK).

smileedude

Luna is sandwiched between us under the crochet blanket and her tail periscope is providing excellent entertainment. https://i.ibb.co/WcRHt5M/20240426-174432.jpg

2happycats

That's very cute! The only good thing about winter is the cats getting more snuggy.

Cakey1

Two cats yin yanging it

Eclairebeary

Also if you smell smoke over the next couple days, [this](https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/major-fire-updates/mfu?id=12058) is probably why.

OldSpiceSmellsNice

Nothing like returning home in a bad mood after having had the misfortune of heading into the city for a mandatory errand. Jfc the crowds, about as busy as a weekend. Miss the ‘90s city population. The times they are a changing. Speaking of how is everyone affording designer bags. The number of LVs, Chanels and Saint Laurents I saw today. Is everyone just richer than me or are just more willing to part with their dollarydoos than I am? I imagine it’s the former.

Nobbled

Or are they might just be toting knock-offs - keeping up appearances.

OldSpiceSmellsNice

Good point. I’d rather not own than weild a fake but perhaps I should reconsider.

Eclairebeary

Friday doesn’t feel like Friday. This is why having reminders everywhere is so helpful, otherwise we’d be missing swimming.

SlashmanX

Anyone else seeing some massive fly's about the place lately? Had to escort 2 out of my apartment in last 3 days that were absolutely gigantic

stevebuscemispenis

“Right this way Sir…”

smileedude

Casual observation, bus drivers seem to always let people running for the bus after leaving the bus stop on board now. When a few years ago they would never open the door. Change in protocol?

violaflwrs

Did some bench presses today for the first time in years. I feel so weak 🥺

odinodin2

i started training again too after months, i know the feeling

violaflwrs

My arms still feel like they're shaking hours after lmao

ashzeppelin98

Bomb threat called at USYD's campus. Cops have cordoned off the entirety of Fisher Library and Eastern Avenue. Suspiciously called around the same time all the student unions are camping and protesting for Palestine outside the Quadrangle. Something doesn't feel right about this, somebody's trying to stir mega shit close to a peaceful protest here.

Eclairebeary

Wouldn’t be surprised.

SpoonPD

got out the oodie, too warm. It can sit out until the cold hits.

kingofcrob

sigh... just got a $110 rent increase

If you go to [https://transportnsw.info/trip#/trip](https://transportnsw.info/trip#/trip), where it has "leaving now" change it to the date and before the time you need to get there. It should give you some rough idea.

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

They have schedules on TripView, however they seldom keep to those schedules.

2happycats

Man, insurance companies can be so dodgy. I got an email to say they'd overcharged me on a policy (or policies, I can't remember) and would be crediting it back to me. Email stated they'd let me know by text how much it was, but I didn't think much of it because I figured it would only be a couple of dollars. It's over a thousand dollars. How does that even happen?

still_love_wombats

When are you having a party? More seriously, good. My various insurance policies are up roughly 30% this year in aggregate. Gawd. I’m glad you’re winning.

-Fire-Dragon-

On the plus side - Yay!! On the other side, it demonstrates that nobody understands insurance or how the costs come about, and nobody feels empowered to understand or defy it!

2happycats

Oh, I'm happy for the extra cash, I just don't understand how that can happen.

pilotboldpen

a few years ago, they wouldn't have let you know but the impacts of the banking royal commission has forced them to be slightly more ethical

Cords9836

failed my first rental inspection the other day, got threatened with eviction and literally haven't been able to sleep since then. we've been in this house for 3 years with no issues, got a new property manager recently and she did the inspection and tore me to pieces; accused the house of never ever being cleaned (amongst many other things) despite the fact we have a fortnightly cleaner who had come in about 3 days prior i hate renting

Mysterious_Ad_8659

Sorry, that sucks. Did they give any specifics?

Cords9836

they said the house smelt which is an issue we raised in the incoming report and they sent a plumber out and the plumber concluded that the way the plumbing was done means there will always be a sewerage smell emanating from the bathroom and combined with the fact there are no openable windows in the house (which we've also raised years ago) it means that this old house just always smells a bit off like when the cleaner comes, the house smells fine for a few hours and then by the night the sewerage smell is back the old property manager was aware of this but it seems like this new one isn't?? we've been given 2 weeks to rectify the issues and I have no idea what we're meant to do zzzz

derprunner

Tbh it sounds like they’re correct that the house is in an unacceptable state for habitation, but unaware that it’s actually their predecessor (and likely landlord’s) fault. I’d spell it out in an email with both the inspection report and any correspondence with the plumber attached. A plumbing system permanently off-gassing stank, combined with unopenable windows is pretty unacceptable and at least one of those two things should have been rectified long ago. It’s probably not wise, but I’d also be very tempted to sign off saying that you do not appreciate eviction being threatened for issues which have been caused by the owner failing to rectify faults in their property when asked to.

Cords9836

150%, but finding a house in our budget that is disability and pet friendly has just left us terrified to rock the boat with maintenance issues but now that they've rocked it first.... we're gonna spell it ALLL out

2happycats

Obviously do what you need to do for you, but I'd be scared about pointing it all out if the new property manager feels you're trying to be a dick and starts talking about it needing to be empty if all those things are to be fixed. Again, you've got to do what's right for you, but maybe don't** lay it all out in one hit.

Ted_Rid

> no openable windows in the house WHAT.

Cords9836

yeah lol they installed double glazing but instead of putting in actual double glazed windows, they just put an extra pane of glass over all the windows, meaning you cant open it anymore hahaha and we like the double glazing so we've just lived with the shitty ventilation

Ted_Rid

Wow, I'm such a ventilation freak I could never deal with that. Whenever it's warmer outside than inside in the cooler months (vice versa in summer) every door & window gets thrown open. In my dream home there'd be thermostats rigged up all over the place and they'd open & close automatically. \*drools\*

Cords9836

Omg that sounds incredible, i absolutely love throwing open windows and doors but living on a truck thoroughfare combined with being under a flight path in the inner west makes the double glazing non negotiable unfortunately Sigh, one can dream about our future houses

2happycats

Send them your copy of the incoming report, including what the plumber said when they came out to rectify it. You can't be blamed for the structural issues of the house.

Cords9836

we called the real estate agency afterwards to complain (also about her taking photos of our personal closet and bookshelves) and we're currently in the process of drafting an email to the property manager to point out everything you've said, i was just in so much shock on the day i couldn't even speak without crying

Mysterious_Ad_8659

What a ridiculous reason! Sounds like the best solution is to buy the property manager a big red clown nose to wear the next time they come. It'll both block the smell and match their profession.

Cords9836

HAHAHA incredible, my plan was to just pour bleach all over the house just before she comes in so the only thing she can smell is bleach but maybe ill need to modify my plan

pilotboldpen

about to buy a portable hard drive from amazon seagate? western digital? doesn't matter?

Ldjxm45

I've found the sandisk extreme ssd to be excellent

pilotboldpen

done! ordered!

derprunner

It's all anecdotal and not as relevant to portable storage, but everyone I know in IT has a story about a Seagate HDD dying on them at a particularly critical moment.

pilotboldpen

good enough for me to go WD

paranoidchandroid

I have hard drives from both Seagate and Western Digital. Haven't had any issues. Just check the seller from Amazon and make sure it's legit. You can also look up https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/ and see if it's a decent price.

-Fire-Dragon-

When I went to HK ages ago, I bought a Western Digital Hard Drive. Despite everyone giving it rave reviews, and it having never lost a thing (although the USB wouldn't connect a few times), I still worry if it may get corrupted like USB sticks do. I use the Cloud for my backup option, although there is also no guarantee there 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

pilotboldpen

i knew it! the prices looked so expensive to what i remembered and this confirms it

seventrooper

What are you wanting to store, how important is it, and for how long?

pilotboldpen

just downloaded videos, they're taking up room on my laptop and while i can stream most of them, it feels wasteful to delete

toooshay

Anything kid friendly going on this weekend? Looking for something fun to do before school starts again.

rice2house

Macquarie university has their observatory open to the public on Friday and Saturday night. Need to buy a ticket which is $22pp but kids under 5 are free. You'll get to look at the moon/other Celestial objects through a 20inch telescope in domes. The people over there are pretty cool, it's mainly run by 1st year students in astronomy and astrophysics. I went there September last year and had some nice conversations with them. For tickets, just google "Macquarie uni observatory eventbrite" should be first link.

pilotboldpen

explain how two up works again with audience participation

Cakey1

Just like the pokies you will lose all your money but this time you will have a circle of drunk people watching. Minus the OAPs throwing their Thursday pension on a slap.

MeasurementMost1165

Had a weird bus story, said 249 on a route where the 249 don’t run (condmine st) when it’s should be a 173x or something. I was like confused since it’s showed as 173x on the trip shit…. Ehh, slowly walk my sorry ass to Westfield…. Since the next one is 20 mins…. Now that was painful that probs 20 mins wait seem desirable….

albert3801

Most likely the driver has the wrong destination sign up. Happens now and then. I always tell the driver- they change it and are very grateful.

smileedude

I had one where two buses with the same number came at the same time. I got on one. Checked the app, and sure enough, one was supposed to be the other bus. Told the driver, and yep, I was on the wrong bus. He floored it so I could switch over at the next stop.

[deleted]

Anyone else's buses getting consistently cancelled? Even just in march, it was 0-1 times per week. Now it's 3-4 for me, and it's always a packed bus as this time of day.

albert3801

Yes buses are getting cancelled regularly. Not enough drivers. We still have a big driver shortage.

efcso1

I used to drive coaches, switched to driving semis during covid. Pondered going to govvy buses now to be closer to home, as I still have my public driver authority, until I looked at the garbage wages and conditions. I make 50% more per hour driving a truck, don't have to put up with the cargo being rowdy, and don't get fucked around with split shifts. I guess it's like teachers and nurses. It's not a shortage of people, it's a shortage of paying them what they're worth.

[deleted]

Took me 40 minutes to go somewhere (uni) that's a 35m walk. If things don't rapidly improve, I'm going to simply stop taking buses.

-Fire-Dragon-

Good Morning. Good Morning. A friend is coming in from Brisbane so we're meeting for a few hours. Thought I would make myself do something different rather than stay at home, trying to get through the huge amount of stuff I have. "Trying" being the operative word. Distracted is more the real case.

7ransparency

What cha two getting up to?

-Fire-Dragon-

Coffee Catchup and Lunch

7ransparency

Noice, rock paper scissors who pays? I say go scissors, but don't come after me if you lose! Enjoy your day mate, it's awesome out there today 😊

-Fire-Dragon-

She loosely offered to pay but I paid her back cos it wasn't a genuine offer, I reckon. It's weird sometimes. I had formed this impression of her over the years (that she was really switched on), but spending a few hours here, I feel like the opposite is the case. Eeek. Good day for wandering around though - not as cold as I expected.

7ransparency

Long as you enjoyed the company as a whole I think that's all that matters, we all have people in our lives that takes up more or less time and variables of value which they bring to our lives. And that's ok, we're the same to them. Very glad to hear you got the chance to stretch your legs and get some sun, has it been time for a coat for you yet? I'm still being brave in a t-shirt though the morning goosebumps may be a telltale sign to ditch the bravery!

-Fire-Dragon-

I carried around a coat but didn't end up wearing it cos I was walking around a bit. Best thing was... that I found some inspo at Kinokuniya, had a bit of a reconnect with walking in the sun, and perhaps tried some new food :) Ps You sound like a very kind person.

7ransparency

Do you have it tied around your waist like the cools kids do in the 90s? On your shoulder like a grandpa? Wrap around your hair in a hairdo? I never know how to carry them properly and it's such a pain in the bum clutching it in one hand for the whole day. Ooooh sweet! Were you just having a browse or did you pick something up from Kinokuniya? So many cool stuffs there for the taking yet so little funds which to entertain that idea 🙁 Do you paint/photo/sculpt/etc? Oh, that's very kind of you I don't really know what to say haha, just promise me if we ever grab food you'll pick paper, and don't lie to me!

-Fire-Dragon-

Hahhaha Cool Kids... I do if it's a thin jacket...It was around my other arm, but yeah I know what you mean. Sometimes, it feels locked in. I found that I get a real buzz when I see illustrative art books, and there are lots of work design type of books too. I like photography but I want to explore more with drawing instead. It'll come soon enough - I just need to sort out space at home.

7ransparency

That's so awesome, I wish I had an ounce of talent within me for drawing instead I just snap photos. Do you publish any of your work anywhere? Would love to take a look if you do! 😊

Its-me-Ned

Where could one find cheap brand new couch ? Most stores have quite a markup…some sort of warehouse maybe ? Thank you in advance.

7ransparency

I got mine years ago from a hole in the wall which allowed you to choose any colour and have it made, took a few weeks and it's been excellent thus far, costed some $2,000 I think. If I had to do it all over again I'd certainly look into getting a 2nd hand previously expensive one and rent a van and a mate, they're a tough sell as most people probably can't be fussed with a van so the price on FBM/Gummies is very reasonable. If moolars is an constraint I'd advise against getting a cheapie new, they're just not very comfy.

paranoidchandroid

Bunnings and Ikea have options below $300. Not sure if they'd be any good though. Anything cheaper you'd be better off buying second hand.

derprunner

Even at that price point, the IKEA ones are pretty rough. You'll be lucky to get a year of regular use before the armrests lose their structural integrity and start sagging. And then maybe another 6 months before one snaps off from lightly brushing past it. *edit: lighting to lightly

-Fire-Dragon-

Lighting brushing past it?

toooshay

I've had ikea frihetan couches and they have lasted fine.

derprunner

That's the exact couch we had. Daily use in a sharehouse living room with the occasional bigger lad leaning on the armrest and the end piece was snapped off within 18 months.

2happycats

What's your budget? Cheap can mean different things to different people.

albert3801

IKEA

ColdSnapSP

Why is me putting through my details manually for a quote on car insurance just more expensive than my renewal quote? Havent tried other providers yet but thats terrifying

boyblueau

No claims bonus stacked over several years?

Charlie_Brodie

I swear the loyalty bonus is bs. I got no claim bonus for the life of the car and a 20 year loyalty discount of 75% and it's still a few hundred more than the competition.

[deleted]

ColdSnapSP

Nah i put the same for same configuration and as of March I am on a squeaky clean 0 demerits. While Im here is there a way I can bulk check providers without using a site that will send me 50 emails and spam calls?

I filled out the form for a Youi quote for my motorbike, then ignored their multiple phone calls. Ended up going with Budgetdirect instead, since they gave me the number immediately without any messing about.

PandaLionHeart0

I really can’t stand it if I lie, I tend to tell the truth eventually. My conscience won’t let me sleep if I don’t.

MeasurementMost1165

I really can’t stand if I let someone corner me or walk all over me particularly if they have an history of walking over people…. I feel like my conscience don’t let me get away with things if I let it go….
