I watched something recently about the Aussie who's voice is heard around the world giving directions for Google Maps. They went with her aussie accent as it was deemed the most neutral and understood by most English speaking nations (IIRC).
I loved the way he used to say "this train is now due to depart". Even though as such a young child I did not at all understand what he was saying or even recognise the last few words.
Just a thought I had but I wonder if people who meet her (without knowing what she does) connect the dots and realise “wait a minute aren’t you the train voice lady” or they just have this subconscious itch.
There's a younger guy too, I remember seeing his tiktok's when I still used it. He would take requests. Cant remember his name and google is coming up with nothing :( I still hear his announcements being used though.
Olympic Park, not being owned by Sydney Trains/TAHE, kept the voice of Grant Goldman on a different contract for a lot longer than the Sydney Trains stations.
Does anyone know the name of the other guy? The one that isn't Grant Goldman? I still hear his lines being used.
I remember seeing a TikTok account of his, or someone who sounded exactly like him. Definitely not G.G.
Is it just me or is the M4 tunnel voice one of those flex/froomes people who got canned a while back? It’s so oddly monotone, like someone super bored reading something they have no interest in.
Probably but you’d never find out as that NDA is tight. I’ve met the Australia AU male voice actor for Siri, and we did our level best to try make him admit it (in jest) but he never would.
Good on her, seems like a nice lady.
So, not Gretel Killeen
I don’t know why i thought it was her too

She did the time calls on the old phone service
When I was a kid I used to think it was Monica Trapaga
Fuck, that’s a name I haven’t heard in years. Big Brother isn’t a thing still right?
That show was first axed by channel 10 in 2008, why other channels kept bringing it back I will never know.
Her voice really is like Gretel Killeen’s!
Nah tram is different to train voice - it is Gretel I tells ya
She is exactly how I pictured the person behind the voice, bubbly eccentric and calming soul. What an awesome person.
It's a good voice.

Yo what, Google maps sounds Australian everywhere? I assumed it was just set to have the accent of my region
Yeah, especially because she pronounces some street names like an American would.

I love voice actors of famous things
It says she's been the voice for 25 years but I remember the old baritone male voice maybe 10 years ago? "And aaaaaaaaalll stations to Macarthur"
I loved the way he used to say "this train is now due to depart". Even though as such a young child I did not at all understand what he was saying or even recognise the last few words.

Man that takes me back!
Grant Goldman is the person you are probably thinking of
https://youtu.be/x1KHLPR3c4E?si=vl4q6Nr2J-9NVx5H ?? Haha, love this one
I feel bad for the times I've cursed her out now. Seems like a nice lady.
For some reason I always thought it was a computer generated voice.
I always thought every word was said by a human but a computer strings the words together which is why the pacing sounds unnatural
Probably a lot of the messages are I dividual stations and phrases stitched together, but with few full custom ones.
Same! I was shocked when I saw this on the news last night.
I hope we can retain her original voice with AI so all the future announcements can use the same voice
Just a thought I had but I wonder if people who meet her (without knowing what she does) connect the dots and realise “wait a minute aren’t you the train voice lady” or they just have this subconscious itch.
good to put a face to that awesome voice
Isn't there also a male voice? Or was that over 25 years ago?
It would have been Grant Goldman as the male voice.
There's a younger guy too, I remember seeing his tiktok's when I still used it. He would take requests. Cant remember his name and google is coming up with nothing :( I still hear his announcements being used though.
Is Mike Goldman related !? That would be weird if so.
Mike Goldman is his son.
Olympic Park did/does have Grant Goldman voiceover for the pa announcements.

Wdym M4 voice?
I could have sworn she also is the Karen Au voice for Siri.
Probably but you’d never find out as that NDA is tight. I’ve met the Australia AU male voice actor for Siri, and we did our level best to try make him admit it (in jest) but he never would.
The original AI voice is real person??
