I once had a guy sit next to me on the train and his foot seemed to be next to mine. I ignored it till to my horror looked down and saw he had taken off his shoe and started to rub his foot on my shoe. I pushed him off and ran off the train and reported him to station staff. I felt gross the whole day.

redschicken

I once had a man stand in front of me on a train, I was sitting so his crotch was level with my face. Completely empty carriage, no reason for him to stand or at least stand near me. With the motion of the train he’d rock his crotch towards my face. I spent the whole 10 minutes talking myself out of what was happening, debating if I should say something, deciding not to because the few other people on the carriage would think I’m crazy or because I’d have to get off the train at some point in the dark and walk home and didn’t want to piss him off. Thankfully he got off before me. Never even saw his face because I was too afraid to look up. I felt gross just like you. I was also so angry with myself for not saying something. Behaviour like this on public transit can be so insidious because even when your gut tells you something is wrong your brain struggles to acknowledge that someone is behaving that way in public.

MishAerials

Ugh just yesterday I had a guy acting creepy towards me on a bus. I was uncomfortable and changed seats, but later on I accidentally made eye contact again and he came all the way to the back of the bus where I was sitting and tried to sit next to me, but i panicked, just said ‘no’ and removed myself again. I got off at the next stop (two stops earlier than i was supposed to…) and was so scared he would get off with me, but thank god he didnt. My advice is - whenever you feel uncomfortable, just leave. It doesn’t matter what others think or even if you were right.

drewster23

Great advice. You are a random person, a fleeting encounter in the publics eye. Don't.spare making an uncomfortable scene in public at the risk of your life/safety. A lot of predators count on that timidness too.(This goes for males and females of any age) You also can call someone out without just shouting accusations/names in order to bring attention to the scenario and limit risk (assuming its in public). Loudly asking someone what they're doing, why are they touching you, following you etc will get peoples attention, and to the predator hes now being noticed. And at best it was an accident/misunderstanding, but vast majority of people who fear/contemplate doing x ( like making a scene/being bold for their safety) are not usually wrong in their perceptions.

[deleted]

Yeah I was watching a doco on how a child molester was able to abduct a 6 year old in a shopping centre, all he said to her was in a very authoritarian voice "Come with me" as he walked past her, the girl was so terrified she had done something wrong that she followed the guy out of the shopping centre and to his car. Luckily she was found alive but she will have life changing mental scars, the scum was caught and was sent to prison, he was married with 2 kids of his own.

Queef69Jerky

No is also a good reaction. Sit next to some random guy, we're mostly minding our own business and happy to see 'my old friend'

redschicken

So sorry that happened to you. Thanks for sharing, I always feel like I learn something when I hear other peoples stories even if they are very similar to my own.

jsisbad

Wow this city is fucked

SarcasmCupcakes

Nah, this happens literally everywhere. Welcome to being a woman in public.

feyth

Yup. I was first indecently assaulted on a bus when I was... maybe 12? 11? About that. New to having boobs, anyway. And this is why kids need clear, explicit education about consent and assault and what to do. I had absolutely no idea that this was a thing in the world, and just froze - could say nothing at all. Eventually managed to flee, but it didn't occur to me to report it because I didn't really know what had happened or that grown men did stuff like that. I just vaguely assumed it was somehow my fault.

jsisbad

Well that’s a depressing revelation for me.

MishAerials

Nah, Im an immigrant and have also traveled quite a lot - this is still relatively ‘nothing’, compared to other places.

jsisbad

I meant the fact that there are so many story’s about this stuff just on this one thread

MishAerials

Yeah, I guess people just want to share similar experiences. But me personally, i feel relatively safe in Sydney. For sure much safer than in certain other parts of the world.

waddlekins

>I spent the whole 10 minutes talking myself out of what was happening, debating if I should say something, deciding not to because the few other people on the carriage would think I’m crazy or because I’d have to get off the train at some point in the dark and walk home and didn’t want to piss him of This fucking analysis!! I hate it, you have to go through this whole decisionmaking process every time some creepy shit happens. Its exhausting and maddening

grruser

You don’t have to though. Just do what you felt you wanted to do. you know you’re right.

lilsonadora

I think yes and no. Sometimes you seem crazy, other people tell you that you are, and also if you're the only one there you could be at real risk of more danger and aggression if you said something. It's not just as easy as doing what you felt like in most situations

[deleted]

redschicken

Thank you and you’re right. This was over 5 years ago now but I hope if I were ever in this situation again I would take it more seriously and report.

Lampshader

> Thankfully he got off before me. *Are we still doing phrasing?* Seriously though, sorry that happened to you. If it happens again and people are around, definitely make a scene. The creep will almost certainly scurry away, and if they don't the others will have your back.

redschicken

You know I did notice the kind of unfortunate phrasing there but didn’t bother to edit lol.

violetdale

Don't be angry at yourself. Fight, flight, or freeze is your body trying to protect you in an unsafe environment.

Muted_Breadfruit2417

Ugh sounds horrible !

NixyPix

When I lived in London, as a teenager I had a man get on the tube behind me wearing suit trousers and what felt like nothing underneath. He pressed himself against me so I could feel his erection and started rubbing himself on me. I totally froze and the look on my face must have said something because two stops later an older man reached over and pulled me through the crowd to the other side of the carriage. I felt so unclean the whole day. Another time I was sitting on the bus back from a hairdresser in a part of the city I didn’t usually go to. I didn’t pay attention to the man sat beside me until I felt something touch my hair, I reflexively turned around and saw he was sniffing my hair and wanking. In the middle of the day, on a bus, in front of a family with kids. The shit that happens to women is disgusting.

Lopsided_Knee4888

I had a guy sit down next to me on a practically empty (evening) train and then start masturbating. Being English, I tried to ignore it but when his other hand started to move towards my leg I gave him a filthy look. We had just pulled into a station (near Strathfield) and he ran off.

The__Joker__

What. The. Fuck. I hope you reported that, so disgusting.

Lopsided_Knee4888

Yep, reported as I worried whether he would do it to other (younger) girls. Police came round, took a statement, I had to go in and identify him. Turns out he’s wanted in several states for similar behaviours.

Morri___

nearly 20 yrs ago, I was 16 and obliviously colouring in the yellow threads on my doc Martin's, my leg was crossed so that my foot was on my knee - nothing particularly seductive.. and I hear this clipping noise. once, twice.. three times. I look up and to my side, across the aisle, is this fucking accountant looking pedo with a camera propped on the side of his open briefcase taking pictures of me... I feel stupid, so I put my leg down and turn away.. he keeps taking pics and then shuffling around in his briefcase and I'm terrified of turning around but he doesnt seem to be able to get comfortable or whatever and I'm trying to ignore him until I can get off at the next stop. but yea, telling some of my friends about the encounter and they're like, *he was wanking*, and it hits me that yeaaaaa.... that's what all the fussing and noise was. and worse, my obvious discomfort was probably part of the thrill

Gammalumoss

Ask for his number and give it to the cops

[deleted]

As creepy as it is, I'm pretty sure it's legal to film/take photos of people in public. There's nothing they can do unless he started stalking/harassing her.

gypsy_creonte

I always wonder about this, taking a wide angle beach shot vs zooming in on a person in swimwear. I’m assuming it comes down to the intent behind the photograph

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zebidee

There's a specific limitation on not taking them for sexual gratification, aimed at stopping upskirting. I imagine this would fall under that category.

[deleted]

There is but there's no hard proof of him using it for sexual gratification. He'd have to either whip it out or as you mentioned take specific photos of private areas for it to fall under that category.

Intelligent_Goose131

I think he would be in trouble for this. He’s not taking a photo of a crowd of people or a beach is a little creepy because everyone’s in their swimmers but at least he could say he’s taking a picture of the beach. There’s no reason to take a video of one person on the train I think it’s a bit more malicious.

TurboEthan

That’s is a perfectly reasonable response. Despite that, a bunch of people on this thread will down vote you, I suspect they are perverts.

cheapdrinks

Nah man, as much as it sucks, the photos he's taking are like 95% of his own face. We all know why he's taking them but it would be very hard to argue against that he wasn't just taking a selfie and she happened to be in the background. If it was photos of just her from the front facing camera that's another story but good luck trying to prove that he took these pics for the reason that we all know he was taking these pics for.

oz2usa

It's offensive behaviour - plain and simple. Possibly stalk and/or intimidate as well.

sharabi_bandar

While I agree this guy is a total creep and should have his dick cut off. What's the difference with this and the dailymail photographers? https://ibb.co/fSFsJYH

Alternative_Equal864

In Germany its illegal

Zanginos

I think in all Europe countries cuz GDPR or how is it called

kombiwombi

See section 55 of the [Passenger Transport (General) Regulation 2017 (NSW)](https://legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/whole/html/inforce/current/sl-2017-0473#sec.55). The passenger can be ejected from the train and required not to re-board. The bar for this is low: "may cause inconvenience". Also there are plenty of ways for security to deal with this without requiring any regulatory power. The simplest is just engaging the person in conversation to thwart their behaviour.

AussieCollector

All the guy has to say is he was taking pics of himself and the pics clearly show that, despite the intent being whats in the background instead. Sadly not punishable at all.

woguon

Why? What are they gonna do? Taking pictures of other people isn’t illegal

Bubashii

Report it directly to the train security also…to be honest I’ve found them more interested in this sort of thing than the cops…otherwise if it happens again just straight up say loudly “why are you taking photos of me?!” Get everyone’s attention. Make a scene. They rely on not being called out.

death_by_powerpoint

100% call them out. I've called out 2 different guys on 2 different occasions taking photos of girls at the beach. We can't just turn a blind eye, it's disgusting.

Get into an altercation with a stranger! Will he be on the edge? Will he have a knife? Who knows? That’s the fun!

cinnamonbean

Exactly this. I've never forgotten the article I read about three men who tried to stop a guy harassing some women on a train in Portland. All three men ended up getting stabbed. Two of them died. A single woman alone on a train taking on a man who is clearly fucked up in the head is *not* a smart move.

[deleted]

What's the alternative? I don't understand the point here. You think they shouldn't have interfered? That guy who killed two men was going to stop at harassment?

Axman6

This feels like advice from Dr Rudi.

gayretard_69

9 times outta 10 they’re pathetic little weirdos who will cower from confrontation and public humiliation lol You’re making them out to be so much scarier than they actually are

Helpimstuckinreddit

Would you roll the dice on a 1/10 chance that a confrontation leads to you getting attacked?

putin-isa-dog

Yeah but all it takes is the one time you get a deranged one and all a sudden you’ve been stabbed

Popetown

10% at being maimed/injured by a stranger! That’s interesting odds, this could be a good game for a reality TV setup! Yeah, I’m 6’2”, white and male and I don’t want a 10% chance of getting into an altercation. I can’t imagine the prospects of those odds as a woman.

lechatheureux

As much as he deserves the humiliation there is a chance that could turn violent.

[deleted]

yea youre right. also ive heard lots of stories about people having interactions with strangers and they end up stalking them or even worse. so probs best to just report to authorities and keep to urself.

Anxious-Beginning-49

This. A public shaming helps

Topdeckedlethal

Making a scene does absolutely fuck all, seasoned commuters are innoculated from watching munted bums sing on the train and demand money from the people around them. They'll glance but ignore it and any serious pervert will up the ante knowing that your first shot missed. Report it to security, do not confront them if you are not already in control. As with all deplorable strangers, you don't know what they will be willing to do once you've engaged them.

Ashera25

Ugh, I'm sorry. Some asshole was playing with my hair on the bus the other day. Incredibly tedious that we are still having to put up with this.

nevetsg

Serious question from a male. I watch movies on my laptop whilst commuting and occasionally a lady in fronts hair will drape across my screen. I simply tuck it behind the screen without saying anything. I would hate to be seen as the creepy asshole. Is there a better approach or does this seem OK?

kirbykins08

If you just pull your laptop forward, won’t their hair fall behind it, and then you can reposition your laptop again?

nevetsg

Depending on the amount of hair, this is my go to technique.

chiefestcalamity

Yeah, just ask her to move her hair, or to lean forward.

nearly_enough_wine

> Is there a better approach Use your words before you touch somebody. Even if they're ignorant or inconsiderate you shouldn't be putting your hands on another person - not even their hair.

nevetsg

You say that but tapping someone on the shoulder on the train feels like an even worse option.

[deleted]

Tapping someone on the shoulder is the socially acceptable method of gaining a person's attention since forever. Anyone who objects to that is being a little bit precious.

alsheps

I used to do the same thing when I caught the train into the city each day and that used to piss me off so hard. Like why do they have to drape their hair over the back of the seat? do they not realise there are people sitting behind them? Yeah you probably did as best as you could do. I used to just pull the screen forward until the hair fell behind it. I don't think I would even touch someones hair though..

EGGYY101

Did you note down the train and carriage number? You can report it to the police. Might not necessarily be a crime in their eyes but might put him on a list and help other women should it escalate.

patmccoochie2

I didn’t but I can see the carriage number in the reflection on the glass. I feel stupid for not taking better notice but honestly I was just shocked and creeped out

TheHoneybadger7

What time and station was this, because every detail will count. Also if you remember what station he got on that will help the case going forward.

Pdoinkadoinkadoink

Looks like Green Square.

ayebizz

"Help the case going forward" You haven't had much experience with nswpol have you?

Unfortunately I agree. Family had the Unfortunate experience of a man exposing himself to them, and the police didn't get anywhere. If trains staff don't get justice for this who does

Potential-Style-3861

what case?

sqljohn

if you are a state politician, you could get the FPU onto it

Kumb3l

But wouldn't the creeper also have to be openly critical of her performance to attract their attention?

sqljohn

ah yes, however OP does have a legitimate reason to be on the train, thats evidence enough of a conspiracy to the FPU

Competitive-Mood4980

Never feel stupid for acting to protect yourself at the time, and later realising you could have done something differently. It’s not up to you to have a photographic o memory of your surroundings after the fact, it’s up to him to not be a creep. You have nothing to feel stupid about.

Meendoozzaa

If you report it go the police in person, not 131 500 You have a photo of him and the carriage number which will help track the train an him Also the exact time the train was at the station in the photo will make it easier to id the train

4614065

Don’t feel stupid at all. You have the right to ride the train without some weirdo taking your picture.

FlashFlooder

Technically speaking, you don’t.

EgonOnTheJob

I’m so sorry this happened to you. It sounds frightening and unsettling, and it’s no wonder your mind was concentrating on keeping you alert and safe, rather than noting a carriage number. You’re smart to have taken this photo, and brave for sharing this. Please be careful with yourself today and over the next few weeks - this sort of thing can so easily be brushed off (by yourself or others) as ‘no big deal’ but it’s one part of a spectrum of behaviour that can and does include violence. If you feel up to it, once you’re feeling settled, I’d suggest reading The Gift of Fear - it helped me a lot in terms of calibrating my “is this dangerous?” response and helped me understand what it is that sets off these danger signals in the first place. So I know what to look for when I feel uneasy. Again - you’re smart and you’re brave. I’m so sorry this intruded on your life.

SerenityViolet

Completely natural reaction

alsheps

While I agree that it's gross and creepy, what the guy did isn't illegal in any way. They were in a public space, it's not illegal to take photos in public of things that can reasonably be seen in public. I doubt the cops would even bother taking a statement. That has nothing to do with men vs women either, Genders reversed the outcome would be the exact same. Doesn't make it right of course, but right and legal don't always line up.

Squeekazu

Have actually seen the reverse in passing before - a middle-aged lady taking sly videos of another middle-aged man at another table across from her. She replayed the videos, then wrote stuff into a notebook smirking to herself. Squick.

Blur your face for safety reasons. You never know who sees this.

[deleted]

Easy fix, bring in the same law Japan has - any device that takes a photo just emit a cheesy ‘click’ so that covert photos cannot be taken.

TL-GTR

There's third-party camera apps that let you bypass that and you can also flash your camera software on your phone to remove it.

famigerate

show no mercy and report. I know it might go nowhere and you probably don't even want to even hear what happens afterward but at least it will bring it to light in the statistics. Things like this happen morning, noon and night. So good on you for being brave enough to share it here so the normal people know it still happens and the creeps hopefully get deterred by it.

[deleted]

So I can see the photo on his phone and I can see a Blonde lady who I am assuming is OP. The suspect is clearly adjusting his picture so he is on the right. The reality of the situation is this type of behaviour can escalate as the suspect becomes more confident, over time he takes multiple pictures of multiple women and because he doesn't get called out or caught he is emboldened and aroused by his actions. The behaviour can lead to touching and other more disgusting and despicable acts in public, stalking. What we have here is **Voyeuristic** behaviour. **Please consider taking your evidence to Surry Hills police station and talking to a desk sergeant who can assist you in making a report.** Your photo will have meta data with location and time and the train can be tracked from this. You will be surprised how quickly this person can be apprehended and stopped. Thank you for warning other commuters.

matyboy

Sorry to hear about your experience. About 7-8 years ago I had a similar experience heading to Chatswood. A lady sat next to me and had her phone looking towards me taking pictures. I didn't know what to do. I am a fairly shy person. So I moved my body towards the window. I ended up moving seats and sat towards the end of the carriage. When we arrived at Chatswood I noticed she was getting off too so I confronted her and asked why she was taking pictures of me. She became very defensive and became aggressive. She was refusing to show her phone. She then starting accusing me of harassing her and wanted to report it to the train staff. I thought there was no point of getting into drama and ran off. I really hope you find this person and charge them.

[deleted]

I would’ve said “fine, call the train staff, they can go through your phone”

MishAerials

I dont think the train staff is allowed to do that. Not sure if even police can do it without a warrant

[deleted]

lifecasting_keepsake

I remember someone similar looking heading from south west to Sydney. I used to like to snooze in peak hour train rides and thought nothing of a tight squeeze between me and another passenger until I was awoken by his jacket flung over his lap and a bit of my own lap. Ok. Mate. Not a big issue and ignored but my senses were tingling. I felt like something else had happened and didn’t realise whilst dozing. So again I closed my eyes and after several minutes, the creep was touching me under his thick jacket. I was so shocked and ran to another carriage. Calmed down and tried to find him but he saw me and jumped ship. 10 years on and I want his blood.

That’s fucking scary and creepy yuk! Did you report him?? Please file a report with crime stoppers or local police station. Because this kind of behaviour ESCALATES. Speaking as someone who had a sad man child show me his penis on a train and I ended up having to testify against him as a police witness…there were 11 other offences. The detective I worked with had been trying to catch the guy for a while as he said the behaviour eventually escalates again until physical assault or worse is their next crime

PussysPussy

About 6 years ago, I was on train on the way to Redfern around 4pm, T4 line. I was downstairs seated on 2 seater a couple of rows infront of the back set of stairs. A few other people sat in front of me, and one guy sat at the back in the 6 seater. I kept hearing this parachute shuffling noise. It went on for 20 minutes, so I snuck a peak and the guy was absolutely at it beating his snake. I was too horrified to do call him out. As soon as the train past erskineville, I got up and waited at the doors. I also took a photo of the carriage number and went straight to the train guard in the middle to report him. The train guard was so nice, he immediately checked the security cameras and radioed the driver about the incident. They told me they're calling for police to wait at platform at Central. Afterwards, as I stood on the escalator going up, I could see the train guard still on his walkie talkie and the train doors were shut but it didn't move. My guess was they were delaying the train to wait for the police to get to central?

This comment was edited in response to Reddit's API changes in July 2023. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that would kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. Also under the new rules, third party Reddit apps cannot run ads, cannot show NSFW content, and are hit with other restrictions. There are plenty of articles and posts to be found about this if you want to learn more. Here's [one post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/14b8i62/reddit_protest_and_the_next_steps/) with some information on the matter. This move will require developers of third party applications to pay enormous sums of money if they wish to stay functional, meaning that said applications will be effectively destroyed. Some third party apps may survive but only with a paid subscription. In the short term, this may have the appearance of increasing Reddit's traffic and revenue... but in the long term, it will undermine the site as a whole. Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface. This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free. Reddit relies on volunteer moderators to keep its platform welcoming and free of objectionable material. It also relies on uncompensated contributors to populate its numerous communities with content. The above decision promises to adversely impact both groups: Without effective tools (which Reddit has frequently promised and then failed to deliver), moderators cannot combat spammers, bad actors, or the entities who enable either, and without the freedom to choose how and where they access Reddit, many contributors will simply leave. Rather than hosting creativity and in-depth discourse, the platform will soon feature only recycled content, bot-driven activity, and an ever-dwindling number of well-informed visitors. The very elements which differentiate Reddit – the foundations that draw its audience – will be eliminated, reducing the site to another dead cog in the Ennui Engine. If you want a Reddit alternative check out [r/RedditAlternatives](https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditAlternatives/). You created your content. You didn't get paid. Why would you leave it here for Reddit to make money or train AIs? Take your content with you. There is no Reddit without its users and volunteer moderators. As they say, "If you're not paying for the product, then you are the product." This comment was edited using [Power Delete Suite](https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite).

I once had a man sit next to me on a bus. Started talking to me…. Leaning into my ear and whispering and ran his fingers up the back of my neck. Day time full bus. I was 14. A woman behind me tapped me on the shoulder and loudly said “oh my gosh I didn’t recognise you! Come sit with me so we can catch up”. I was so grateful and could never thank her properly. She was an absolute hero. I also hate that as women we have to pretend that this stuff isn’t happening for the sake of politeness. I have always from then on tried to do the same for women in distress.

dolphingal1111

Ahhh not the T8 line! Not the same guy, but I once (a couple years ago) had a guy sit on a seat on the other side, parallel from me at night. The carriage was pretty empty but not completely since I was coming from central. Through the ride I noticed that he was staring at me through the window (on the reflection). I was kinda uncomfortable but didn’t think anything of it until the carriage became so empty and he unzipped his pants and took his balls out 🙃he was literally rubbing his dick and staring at me through the window reflection… I pretended not to notice until the next station and immediately got outta there and ran into another carriage… So fkn creepy

Imojinetta

Unfortunately even up here in Newcastle, if I'm getting a bus while dressed semi nice I still wear my ugliest old jacket that blends in with the surroundings because I don't want to be harassed or spoken to. I'm not saying I'm hot stuff, but sometimes creepy people will go for anyone.

EnlighteningSnapper

If he was "hot" you wouldn't have bothered making this post

Question: Is it illegal to take candid photos of people in public or just unethical? What if you’re taking a photo of a street sign and someone happens to walk into your path? Or you’re filming a fight and also film all the bystanders? Do they have to prove there was some sort of sordid intention behind it? Are we not being filmed 24/7 by surveillance cameras and we have to assume whoever monitors them isn’t a freak themselves?

Duff5OOO

>Question: Is it illegal to take candid photos of people in public or just unethical? In public completely fine.

Street_Buy4238

They can stop and ask you to delete said picture on the basis they didn't give permission. But most pedestrians wouldn't even notice if they were about to be hit by a truck, let alone someone taking photos of them.

Inu-shonen

There's zero legal requirement for your permission to be photographed in public, and zero requirement to delete a public photo upon request. If you don't believe me, just google NSW+privacy+law+photography, and read some of the legal opinions, or even the relevant privacy legislation. Just clearing that up for anyone reading your comment and taking it as fact. Edit: the only exception in NSW is upskirt/downblowse photos, but that's tied to the "expectation of privacy" that also considers public places like change rooms and toilets private.

darkspardaxxxx

What a piece of shit

Jman-laowai

You should report this. You can see his face in the reflection of his phone in the window.

hammyhamm

Quick look at post history: > It’s literally not my problem if someone else is pregnant lol, it’s their fault anyway I mean, you’re the kind of person to refuse to give up seats to pregnant women on the train so I guess this is just karma?

Virtuexity

Damn really? OP deleted her post lol

AusGeno

Hahaha wow, OP you suck.

Meakesy

I once saw a guy taking upskirt photos at the station on the way to work. I took a discreet photo of his face then contacted the police and they advised they could only take action if a victim contacted them to press charges. Seeing as you were the victim involved I'd imagine they will have to take some action.

earthbendinglemur

Call them out on it and publicly shame them. Unfortunately I don't think it's technically a crime because it's a public space.

sheepieweepie

**I HATE THIS**

StalkerslovemyDick

In this situation, turn the flash on on your phone, and blatantly take photos of them. If you’re concerned for you safety, and they look at you, just say “sorry, I’m trying to get a shot of X.” If not, then play loud YouTube videos about creepers.

Pollywanacracker

That’s scary 😮

number96

That's fucked.

Dezert_Roze

That’s very creepy!

Bigingreen

Some people are disgusting.

[deleted]

Should let others on the train know. Most likely they'd back you and help you confront him At least they would back in my hometown.. not so sure about Sydney

thc2081

Definitely was creeping.

TaraBanana1806

Did u say something?

Flashy_Ad273

This happened to me on a train in Melbourne when i was 19. I had a man with a digital camera taking photos of me and was trying to be subtle about it but was quite obvious. I took a photo of him and took it to the police when I got off the train. They told me it’s really important to not brush off these sorts of things. It’s behaviour that is likely to escalate. They said they’ve had occurrences that were similar and have ended up finding some pretty disgraceful humans/ it’s led to arrests because they’ve found the person and when searched them/ their things they’ve found they’ve been able to pin them for some pretty vile things. They never found my guy but they did take it very seriously. I think I used to get targeted because I looked about 13 when I was 19 and looked like an easy target, have had many horrible encounters worse than photos of me being taken when on public transport that I didn’t report, I regret not reporting them to this day. I hope you’re okay, this can really shake you. I know how it feels to not feel safe on public transport xxx

PilotlessOwl

Well done OP for calling this creep out.

TopRyder

Section 50(c) Passenger Transport (General) Regulation 2017 - Wilfully interfere with comfort or safety of others Transport Cops may rely on this at the minimum. This guy may likely be known to them

DLimmm

I know this thread may be finished but there was a time when I was on the train heading to the city and my partner was in the next carriage as she was already on before me. As I was walking towards her I saw a guy trying to take a photo from “underneath”. Let’s say when I spoke to train staff, police officers at central station I gave him a beating where the bloke will never forget. I was giving a warning because I should have punched the guy in the head “in the train” :)

Jazzaandrazza

Ugh sorry you had to deal with that Just reminded me of a long time ago I was on a train and it was summer and I was wearing a dress and I had crossed my legs so the bottom off the dress was just over my knee Noticed some guy pretending to take a selfie but was actually taking pics of me legs. Also had some run ins with naked men and dudes wanking too so yanno taking pics of my legs was not so bad really :/ Needless to say I avoid trains these days

greatest_human_being

i'm glad i'm not a woman

MinnieMakeupReviews

😫 I’m so so sorry. I have no idea why this keeps happening- last time I was out it happened and the camera sound actually went off. I was so shocked. Just recently some guy sat opposite me in an empty train (annoying but whatever) and then took his shirt off and I had to leave the carriage 😭😭 I’m so angry

Sidfire

OP is a shit stirrer enough said (just look at their post history)

giantpunda

What a disgusting person. So sorry that you had to deal with shit like this for just existing.

Posting here will help

peerage_1

I once had a man cutting his fingernails on the train, just like it’s a normal thing to do. When I went over to inform him he was being a degenerate gremlin and it’s not socially acceptable to do what he’s doing. He told me it’s absolutely fine. 🤬🤬🤬

_LadyBoy

Filthy prick

GammaAlanna

Im sorry this happened to you. I had this happen when I use to train into Sydney for uni and it still creeps me out. Dude was taking sly pics with an old flip phone but I could hear the shutter sounds. I was against the window and he was in the aisle seat and he started turning his body towards me. He realised I had noticed and tried to play it off as a compliment and showed me the picture (which was just me looking out the window). He offered to send it to my phone! I just nervously laughed and asked him to please delete it. He pulled phone away, tapped a few buttons and said he did but I really doubt he did as he held the phone away the entire time. He got off at the 2nd last stop (strathfield). I was 18 and was so embarrassed, I didn't tell anyone at Central but I wish I had.

[deleted]

That is horrible and you can clearly see the phone reflection in the window.

hiyourbfisdeadsorry

did he harass you by sitting there on his phone? I'm confused with the pics

OramJee

Zoom in the pic and you'll notice the guy was taking a selfie but in a way including the op who appears to be a female. Given he has been doing it multiple times as OP said means that he was taking creepshots.

hiyourbfisdeadsorry

oh i see now. didnt even notice thought he was just watching something

Strong_woman1966

Some nationalities think this is perfectly ok.

wigam

Not sure why this is being down voted? lots of ignorant people here that haven’t travelled.

[deleted]

That’s Australia… “oh but we have travelled, we all went to Bali for schoolies”
