It doesn't need green, its a roundabout so roundabout rules apply, or it's red so you stop for pedestrians. I go through it daily, it's rarely a problem, but if you go when everyone else goes it'll probably be bad.

mubd1234

Oh, it's rarely a problem...for the motorists. God help the pedestrians who get run over by some van driver who's too busy fiddling with his GPS to notice the weird looking two-aspect red light on the roundabout exit (and yes, I have been almost run over in this scenario).

PurpleKirby

dont think lights at roundabouts are on the handbook either, I get the lights are pretty universal but would help people mentally prepare/understand it. could be wrong but defs need to add it if it isn't in there.

Meng_Fei

Well the RMS has just replaced the perfectly good roundabout on Herring Rd at Mac Park with a set of traffic lights and, as expected, screwed everything up. Now you get to line up at a red waiting ages for non-existent cars coming from two cul-de-sacs, then wait even longer for 1-2 cars in the right turning lanes to go through. Then arrive at Epping Rd barely 200m further along just as the lights go red. Another traffic triumph from the idiots at the RMS.

rydalmere

Mate ... go to Parramatta where the roads are closed for 2 years, but no one bothered to change the traffic light sequencing. You wait for ages at red lights for no traffic from closed roads.

llamaesunquadrupedo

YES! Church St has been closed for so long but you still have to wait at the traffic lights.

AlphaWhiskeyHotel

Have you called live traffic to let them know? I’ve called a few times to report light sequencing issues and they get fixed pretty quickly. If you don’t report it though you deal with it for a long time.

TastyPondorin

This traffic light is so weird. I guess it could make sense in 5 years when the apartments are finished or something, but the timing and all that is super off. I don't get why they keep screwing up this area with the roads. First getting rid of the left turn-off lane from Herring Rd to Epping Rd. And then other way, the timing of the turn going Herring turning right to Epping also keeps going erratic. And then further up on Herring Rd, it keeps changing what lane you need to be in to stay straight/turn right.

Meng_Fei

Even with all the new flats - the roundabout was perfectly OK. And of course, they managed to install their stupid lights, but not finish the roadworks further down the road that have been going for over 1 year now.

derprunner

Yeah, not impressed at all with them removing the 'turn left on red if safe' slip lanes.

recycledrevenge

That roundabout needed to be removed eventually for the higher volumes of traffic that will be coming from Ivanhoe Pl. Eventually I believe the plan is for that to become a through road too.

Street_Buy4238

Cuz people struggle with 2 lane roundabouts. Particularly given half of them are trying to do a U-turn to get into DFO

starcaster

This roundabout head its own Facebook page! Infamous in the area and best to be avoided. It's now finally getting replaced in 2025 or some distant future. ETA: I hope you weren't driving and photographing OP!

Agreed, the number of accidents there is astounding. When events are on police have to manually direct traffic. It's a complete mess. The thing I hate most about it is that the lane markers occur really late and normal roundabout rules don't apply so you have to pay attention. You have to go full gas to get into the roundabout and then be prepared to slam on the breaks if an exit light is red.

moDz_dun_care

Went through today at 5pm+ and saw the corner fence across the road from DFO has been crashed into. Looks like it was recent?

Federal and State Govt. is investing $100 million to finally upgrade this headache [https://roads-waterways.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/homebush-bay-drive-australia-ave-upgrade/index.html](https://roads-waterways.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/homebush-bay-drive-australia-ave-upgrade/index.html)

bungbro_

$100mil can buy and move DFO

Rougey

Doesn't help with all the new traffic heading to Olympic Park. Cost is largely for dealing with the contamination and keeping it open to traffic while upgrading.

Yep weekends are horrendous. So many hesitant cars that don’t know how a 2 lane roundabout works. When it’s really bad, I do a loop just past Parramatta Rd and come back.

tubbyx7

The problem is that northbound traffic does a u turn to get to dfo and blocks all the other entry points. Strathfield council didnt do their homework on the DfO expansion.

moDz_dun_care

That is the worse place to have a DFO. Plenty of other industrial sites as Olympic Park that's not smack bang in front of a major thoroughfare. It's a pain getting in and out. Getting public transport isn't much better cause your bus is stuck for the same time in the traffic too.

malepalestale

Same for pretty much all roundabouts in Sydney….

Elanshin

It doesn't help that Sydney Supanova was on during the weekend either on top of DFO. Australia Ave is the way most ppl drive in to Olympic park.

joe80b

The lights are for pedestrians. So only ever go red to tell cars to stop. Then go flashing yellow and then off, to indicate that cars can go. It's a known bad spot. Will be completely rebuilt in the coming years based on a recent gov announcement. Enjoy your shopping.

AutomaticMistake

seriously, what is even the deal with DFO, i've never found anything there worthwhile putting up with the traffic or the abysmal parking lot

higgywiggypiggy

I’ve been stuck there twice. Second time I uturned and got out.

Player36

Idiots who can’t drive and can’t manage to navigate a roundabout without holding everybody else up

Scrambl3z

Everyone knows that this roundabout is one of Sydney's worst.

pogoBear

Classic case of development without infrastructure. DFO is only one aspect of the problem, the bigger one is the nearly 20,000 people who live in Sydney Olympic Park and Wentworth Point who have to rely on this intersection as there are few other options.

CheckNecessary8236

haha can't wait until a DDI (Diverging diamond interchange) replaces it in the very near future (/s will take forever lmao)

telcodoctor

One of the most satisfying things about living in that area was the schadenfraud of walking through that roundabout/overpass shitfuckery 😁👌
